I needed to do this a few weeks ago to backup a bunch of custom stuff and clean up some things on my games and server. Always good to have an easy to follow guide. I do think you should have read and explained that warning though. I know some people get scared when a warning message like that pops up. As I recall it's saying "Hey, if you unlock this and edit it- your edits might not stay around because modules are often created by other people and you download them to update them and when you update it from someone else it will no longer have the things you added to it!" which is nice but- its your module. You're going to be the one modifying it, no one else will be modifying it, when you make changes to it then it will be updated- with your changes. You dont need to fear someone is going to access it and change it. So, yeah, you can just ignore the warning when making your own. Just- don't freak out if you see the warning, that's all it means. :D
No. I probably should, but I don't. How do I know if "my" version is on the character? Err... This is a really good point. I rely on just dragging it from MY folder anytime it needs adding to an NPC/PC/etc. but I could easily forget and not realise until mid-game.
@@clay_golem You are going to need to get into Chris' Premades and the Med kit tool! You can tell it to check your compendium first to update an ability/spell/item etc - it will read the name- then pick going in a predetermined order that you can modify to make sure you get the right version of the item you want to update. If you want to mix and match - well you can just take the ones you like the most- make them your own compendium - and make that compendium the highest priority. Then when you click the med kit on a basic version of the item- it will check your compendium first for the finished version of that item! If it doesnt find it- it moves on and on - till you get down to SRD content.
@@SageSaga25 Oh yes. I use it all the time now it's "back". We're going to get to that in the automation series before long - just building the stepping stones :)

Really appreciate this, needed to start using compendiums because my foundry was struggling with the hundreds of stat blocks, maps, etc.
Great tutorial, I'm just about to start some compendiums for a couple of systems I use, so great timing 😁
Do you use any kind of item naming convention? Ex: Fireball CG... How do you tell the vanilla item from you CG Premade? Great video!!
