Speaking of coasters in Maryland though, the state is home to what has to be the world's best alpine coaster, at Wisp Resort in Deep Creek. It's legit intense, best coaster of any kind in the state and in my top 25 (out of 200) overall. I'm not kidding, everything you heard about the Blackpool Wild Mouse is true about this alpine coaster.

Also, thank you for being a youtuber who even though they haven't been to the great escape doesn't give it a bad rep. The coaster lineup is bad, but the park has decent theming, some good flats, a lot of family rides, a nice waterpark, and a lodge with a small indoor waterpark

    • @urbex_coasters

I've been to Great Escape. Comet is amazing and it's inclusion on this list is very appropriate, easily one of the best relocated coasters (although I prefer Skyliner because of the buzbars). That's about my limit for praises I give the park given that 2 coasters weren't operating when I was there and they have the you must have a kid to get the kiddie credit policy (when you're sold 6 credits and only get 3, that stings). That and Steamin Deamon and Canyon Blaster could both go on the worst relocated coasters list, if I were running the park both would be scrapped within a year and replaced with a large B&M that would look amazing in that spot (likely a hyper theamed to an adarondak mountain expedition that used those plots and crossed the street to the parking lot, being that's what could be highly elevated for where it crosses) and an RMC Raptor would replace their boomerang (why hasn't Six Flags done that yet honestly? Albany is a big enough city that it would undoubtably make it's money back in a season from the attendance spike). The park certainly has potential though. If Herschend owned it. The theaming is there from before Six Flags, and as I already stated Comet is amazing.

@@urbex_coasters I am a little biased with this being my home park z canyon blaster isn't that bad. Also, the park would never add two new b&ms, let alone within two years, and by doing so the park would lose their only true family coaster

@@urbex_coasters Great Escape has a ton of unused land, so they would not need to tear down anything to get a large investment. But that will probably never happen.

    • @urbex_coasters
      @urbex_coasters 3 года назад

@@hedgehogcoasters7239 I guess I'm naturally biased against mine trains because I have fairly long legs and mine trains tend to not be designed for people with that build. That being said, Gemini is basically a scaled up mine train and I can handle that just fine. Maybe I exagerated how bad Canyon Blaster is though. I wish they would have embrased it's history with Opryland, perhaps that would result in it having more comfortable trains as there would be demand for it. And retrospectively maybe not but in the moment, Steamin Deamon should have been sent to SFNO in 2003 being that it literally came from a park SFNO paid heavy omage to, would have fit the park nicely. Great Escape has great potential, with Albany being a sizable city and the adarondaks being a popular weekend vacation spot for NYC and Montreal (especially given that it has the lodge). I guess my opinion is skewed by that and it being the closest park to me but still over 2 hours away most of the time because of Albany traffic (ie they've got no competition if they want to go big)

The original Toboggan was a fun ride, riding it when I was around 10 at The Pike in Long Beach California, IIRC. It IS painful if you are a tall adult. I also rode a later version in the mid 70's called Arctic Cat, which was right next to the Comet at Crystal Beach. A fun little coaster, but once or twice was enough.

You should do a video of coasters that had elements added on after the coaster originally opened such as both demon coasters at both Great Americas that originally opened as standard corkscrew models in 1976, and had loops added in 1980, or Dodudumpa in Japan now with a loop, but not including any RMC coasters

I haven't ridden that many relocated coasters, but my home park, Canobie Lake, has three:
    - The Dragon kiddie coaster is from Deno's Wonder Wheel Park at Coney Island.
    - The Canobie Corkscrew started life as "Chicago Loop" at Old Chicago, an indoor amusement park in Illinois, and was at the Alabama state fairgrounds for a while after that. It's actually the second Arrow corkscrew ever made, which makes it the second modern inverting coaster ever made. That's impressive--unfortunately the ride is both short and rough, not very good at all.
    - Most interesting to me: Canobie's classic woodie, the Yankee Cannonball, may be one of the first coasters ever to be relocated, back in the 1930s. It started out as "The Giant Coaster" at a short-lived park in Connecticut. Postcards of it in that location seem to show it having a significantly different layout, a straight out-and-back without the L-shaped bend in the middle and with the lift hill on the other side. I know it also had to be shortened to fit its new location. I don't know if the Yankee Cannonball would deserve to be on this list, but it's a good ride and an unusual story.

Thank you for the Lakemont shoutout, from a college student in the area! The park did close from 2017-2019 to do some renovations, then it closed again with the pandemic. Thankfully though, they are reopening for the 2021 season, and both Skyliner and Leap the Dips are going to be open as well. I'm actually making a visit this summer between classes, and it's definitely a hidden gem of a park. Not to mention, it's a nice place to stop between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
If you ever do a Pennsylvania coaster trip, it's the smallest park there, but definitely a good one to have between the Hersheypark and Kennywoods of the state.

I just wanted to point out something about Lightnin' Loops if no one else already has. It didn't close in 1986. Unfortunately, a woman fell to her death from the ride in 1987. After that happened, the lower loop, which is now Diamondback, stopped operating. However, the upper loop continued to operate until 1992 after modifications were made to it and its train after the accident. I remember riding it very well. And I agree with you that the Arrow shuttle loops continue to remain intense even to this day. Although, they don't compare to how intense The Great American Scream Machine was.

Skyliner really is a good fun ride in my opinion. I rode it for the first time on July 2nd.
I wouldn't personally call it rough. It can get a little shaky at the bottom of the first drop or two but nothing overly bad.
As for airtime, both ends of the car have interesting experiences. In the back, the first 2 drops give you some decent air. (Note that on the day I went the back row was closed due to an issue with the restraint) Though to me, in the front, the hill following the first drop gives you some airtime I'd consider almost violent. Both are some pretty fun moments with their own unique flair, and both should really be experienced (It's not like Lakemont actually gets crowds anyways)

Goliath at Six Flags Fiesta Texas actually operated for 7 years at it's original park from 1995 to 2002, as Gambit at Thrill Valley in Japan.
    10. Always happy to see the big 4 relocated woodies get shouted out
    9. ouch
    8. Thank you. Seriously underrated and another of the "big 4" I was referring to (I'd probably put it higher though, that airtime with buzbars)
    7. Haven't ridden it
    6. Haven't ridden any like it
    5. I love Comet and it's absolutely in that big 4 I referenced. I do prefer Skyliner though because of the restraints.
    4. I've ridden Mindbender and I'm excited to have something like it slightly closer.
    3. Haven't ridden one but judging by the layout I think you've got it a little high.
    2. My #1 floreless coaster, I legit greyed out on that S turn after the loop. That said I would rank it lower, for me relocations need to come with history which Doninator doesn't have much on relocated woodies.
    1. The last of the big 4 relocated woodies I haven't ridden, that will change this summer. Given it's reputation, I can agree with this placement.

Is it just me, or does the off ride footage of dominator at geauga lake look like it’s hauling much more than it does at KD?

Hello airtime thrills, can you do of which roller coasters six flags would've gotten for each park if there hadn't been a recession in 2008? For example magic mountain would've had a giga already.

Did you miss the fact that Goliath originally was built as Gambit at the now defunct Japanese theme park Thrill Valley and operated from 1995-2002 before going to SFNO?

How about this one that not many people mention....
Ragin' Cajun, an Arrow Dynamics looper, operated from 1978-1983 at Ponchartrain Beach in New Orleans. When the park closed it was relocated to Great Escape as Steamin' Demon in 1984 and is still operating.

I think it's funny I've ridden Lightning Loops at SF Great Adventure in 1981; Scream Machine in Vancouver in 1986 and a clone of "Swiss Toboggan" coaster at Playland in Vancouver in the early 80s after having seen it there for years with the title "Wild Rat" (I've recently seen a picture of Playland in Vancouver in 1974 that had the "Wild Rat". That's the same year I 1st visited Playland at the age of four, I was only old enough to ride the smallest of kiddie rides.) I 1st noticed "Wild Rat" in 1977, but still didn't ride "Coaster" until at least a year after that, and never rode "Wild Rat" until the early 80's, so I overly romanticized it. But when I finally rode it in the early 80's, the "Wild Rat" (Swiss Toboggan) coaster was a one and done for me. I know a woman merely three years younger than me that thinks the Toboggan Coaster was the best thing sliced bread; I guess there's no accounting for taste. Thanks for this video; I had no idea how much I'd relate to it before watching. ;)

Good choice of Phoenix at the top. The Comet was a better coaster in its original configuration on the bank of lake Erie, with buzz bars and the added height effect being next to the lake. It's still a great coaster, but not as good in the new location.

After watching your Magic Mountain videos, it makes no sense that Six Flags would build a massive flying coaster while they were considering selling or shutting down the park

Six Flags from the late 90’s to 2007 was a pretty stupid company. They spent way too much money they didn’t have, and that led to their bankruptcy.

I actually rode McGoons at Dogpatch. It is one of my earliest coaster memories. I rode it at Little Amerricka in 2019, and yeah it wasn't great. I was by myself, and I pity anyone that has to ride that with anyone else. Those little hills at the end are the worst part to me!
