    The fact you can still hear 4014s steam whistle while the train was that far down track and all that IM freight going by is simply just testament to how loud that whistle and engine is in general.

      I was able to see this magnificent engine come through northeast Oklahoma, truly a massive Machine, and an engineering masterpiece, and this one
      Was built with slide rules not computers and Auto Cad...

    I love Big Boy and it’s such a majestic locomotive . What disappoints me is she’s running on oil and not coal . Having grown up in India where my Dad served on the Southern Railway first on steam and then electric traction nothing beats a coal fired loco and to see that mighty firebox lying idle beats me . Why was she converted to oil power ? Cheers and thank you from Australia .

    Avec 1 train si léger, la loco Diesel pourrait circuler en véhicule et épargner du fuel; 2 + qu'elle serve de réserve en cas de pépin, OK.

    Freaken awesome! Green Engines!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
    (8:19) I am not sure: how is the oil flowing on the crank arm; too the bearing. ((flex hose))?? = Likely should be a 2 way - grease zerk, at junction, would be the pressure test valve, no???
    😎🥲😅Oh, no! (28:18) I guess you using the drain plugs, to install the big oil pumper. 🤠🤠🥹😱😱🥵🥵🥵🥵😳Yea, right, someone stole the catalytic converter! 😳🤪

      The diesel engine is there to provide electric power to the coaches, communications to the dispatchers, and also serves as backup in case of steam engine failure. Rail transportation in the US is generally on a strict schedule, and delays would cost the railroad and the companies they serve a lot of money.

    How often do they have to water that thing up? Used to be every 10 miles. Does anyone know?

    MAN !!! This just makes you wonder what it was like back in the '40's and early '50's when you're out in the "Badlands" of Wyoming, Utah, CO, or wherever. You're in the middle of nowhere at a random "Poage" water column...the wind is howling...you're the Fireman, so you get on the ground in 9 degree blowing COLD so you can put the Alimite Guns to work. Oh! and did I mention you having to take a SERIOUS "dump" just before you stepped off the engine? It's just you right? Hey !!! Pay attention to your tender...It's just starting to overflow... CRAP!!! This ladies and Gentlemen the above is just a "slight delve" of what these guy's went trough while on the road and what you're watching here, is a "Normal" day to day operation in Pleasentville, USA...think twice O.K.?

    I think they should paint the diesels BLACK- and fix them to look like coal tenders or something... AND NOT blow the diesel horn-- that ruins the effect..

    • @railgraphix
      @railgraphix  9 месяцев назад

      It was odd the diesel horn was blowing. It didn’t do that the whole time I chased.

      @@railgraphix Of course there could have been a problem- but they really shouldn't use that while hooked to steam..
