I've been watching Garrett for a while now and at first I thought "well he's a young guy who likes to rip around on fast things much like other young men" but he's turned into one of the best all round drivers I've seen in my 64 yrs. Not a lot of guys could have recovered like he did in Leroy that night when it hit that oil spot and went sideways. I've seen him in the baja trucks, drag and stock car racing, jet boat racing, plane flying etc and he seems to be a natural at piloting anything he wants to at a high level. Respect
Did something break on the Starlet or did the driver have to back out of it to stay off the line? He had Mullet until I saw sparks come from underneath it.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to try to control a car with that tiny a wheelbase, running low 6s, with a howling rotary under that little hood. Huge respect.

Think about what i say now: ONE of that SMX motor' pistons displacement is 71ci and has twin turbos, the whole 13b engine in that Starlet is 79ci with a single turbo and he just won that race because that Starlet got out of shape midtrack. It is ridiculous to think that Starlet can outrun that v8 if it had a good run! Just my two cents!!

Starting line “games” is part of the gamesmanship of drag racing and I love them. Nothing to me is more satisfying than winning a race from flag to flag after the driver in the car in the other lane tries to burn me down.
all part of the sport... gotta get a competitive edge anyway that you can. Especially when you are racing a glorified tin can of a car that weighs practically nothing compared to a whole ass G body car.
I get it that its legal and part of the sports but wouldnt you want them to compete in good prep like warm tires and stuff? He stalled way long and mullet's tire getting cold. Ive read comments on other videos that starlet always does that sht.
Let's put something into perspective here. That ugly el camino will never do that monster 572 ci SMX engine any justice. It's not like cleet can set the two step to 5 grand and have 65-70psi of boost ramped in by 330 ft. If they could unleash that engine and not have tire spin to worry about, this conversation would be much different. People forget that this engine is yawning most of the time because mulletw suspension and tires cant handle all of the 572 SMX power without the tires burning off. Pete has to do mental gymnastics just to get the car to launch properly.
