This franchise is literally my childhood. After Blue Sky Studios shut down, someone made a video of Scrat finally eating his acorn and that made me wanna cry.
"She mustve been weak" exactly, she gave everything she had left to save her child and get him to shore. So many people miss that the first time and think she just swam off
@@MicukoFelton what I've learned from following many reaction channels for film and anime is that many people tend to misunderstand even the most obvious things it's pretty astonishing (and honestly a bit sad)
I used to think that too. The ironic part being that Sid's an idiot, right? But, as the other replies said, Sid is a ground sloth, which are different from modern sloths.
Fun/Sad facts that was pointed out to me: - Manny going against the migration and the tigers commenting on how Mammoths never travel alone is very telling that he lost his herd. - Manny was most likely was going back to the cold to die. Manny may have saved Sid, and the baby, but Sid saved him too. - the type of sloth that Sid was in real life was so massive it would have been bigger than Diego. - Diego was supposed to die from his injuries after fight but they changed the ending after they made the scene - Scrat is never named in the movie. It was the creators in trailers that name him - the humans never speak. The most you get are noises and babbles
Ground sloths were very diverse and came in many different sizes, they werent only giant. Fun fact: the 2 sloth genera we have today (two toed and three toed) are not actually closely related, they are both only the tree living relatives of now-extinct ground sloths. So their last common ancestors wasnt a small mammal in the trees, but both lineages stem from independent large ground dwellers.
You ever wonder why Sid finds Manny at the top of a cliff at the beginning of the movie? 👀 Manny was going to jump before Sid stumbled upon him during his chase.
Our man is an alien, he just randomly spawned on Earth and now reacts to our beloved childhood movies so we can see how it was when we first watched them
I love that you point out the connection so many people don’t make between Manny losing his mate and child to humans, and him becoming invested in making sure the same tragedy doesn’t happen to the father of the child. The father watched on unable to help as the mother and baby were being hunted by another Saber. It’s a direct parallel to Manny’s story in the cave. Manny was walking into the ice alone in the beginning. He was not planning to make it. However, when he came across the mother and child, he couldn’t not do something to stop the same events from happening again. Not this time, not when he could help. Through the whole journey, I think he also found healing. Unlike the Sabers who wanted revenge on the humans for wiping out their pack, Manny found a neutral forgiveness perhaps. He didn’t fight fire with fire, but extinguished it so no one else would get burned. It’s offers a lesson on the cycle of trauma and violence. This movie is pretty deep for a kids movie lol.
All my life i thought Manny was the surviving young mammoth. That he witnessed his parents being killed and when he touches the painting (like a photograph of himself from better days) and the baby's hands gets in the way, he just projects himself onto the child. To me he wanted to return teh chld so it's never as lonely as he was
Whats interesting, and kind of disturbing, is that a lot of people who watch this movie today and hear about how the humans killed half of Diego's clan. They, because they grew up with being bombarded with how humans drove animals to extinction, they (for some reason), side with Sodo and the tigers. Saying that they deserve revenge and that the baby should be killed and eaten as compensation so that 'the humans know how the tigers feel'. First off, what is wrong in their brains to be okay for a baby to be killed for something their parents did? I think those people should be tested for potential psychopathic behavior. Second off, it was a different world back then for humans. During the Ice Age, humans were not at the top of the food chain; it was kill or be killed. Humans had to face the same hardships as animals when it came to surviving. A lot of humans back then didn't even make it past childhood, let alone into their 40's because of things like starvation, the freezing temperatures and being hunted. It was a back and forth things. The humans who hunted the tigers and Manny's family didn't do it out of malice or greed like many did within the last 1,000 years. It was purely out of survival and nothing personal. The difference between Manny and Soto is that Manny recognized that; that they were just trying to feed their own families and keep them alive when they hunted his wife and child. I'm sure he didn't forgive them, obviously, but he accepted it as it wasnt out of malice. Remember when the Rhinos said they wanted to kill Sid and just leave it at that. Manny got visibly angry and said 'I despise creatures who kill for pleasure'. That means he knew that, for the humans, it wasn't personal whereas the Rhinos wanted to kill Sid out of malice. Same reason he got pissed when he learned Diego (at first) was leading everyone to an ambush and when Soto hit Diego and started targeting Sid and the baby. Manny knew that Sodo was evil and was someone who killed for pleasure, not for survival.
"I can see why he doesn't want to go near the humans though. Out of all of them, he's the only they'd want to use for food and fur." Oh boy. You have no idea.
My favorite bit of the behind the scenes, Denis Leary was told how Diego was going to be killed off at the end of the movie. Being a somewhat recent father, he knew how kids would react to such an ending, and he warned the directors that it would sour the film for the target audience. Sure enough, during test screenings of the movie, kids were crying, and they decided to add that at the end, him limping back to the group just fine.
The German voice actor for Diego voiced so many animals. He was the voice for Scar (lion), Aslan (lion in Narnia), a lion in the film Animals United, a snow leopard in Kung Fu Panda, two foxes, a wolf, a snail (Timon and Pumbaa) a penguin (Surf’s Up), a dog (in Balto) the dog Lucky in Dr. Dolittle and the gorilla in the movie zookeeper.
Fun fact I don't see anyone else mention yet: the creators designed Scrat, the sabre-toothed squirrel just for this movie, not based on any ice-age animal, just imagining the kind of thing that could have lived back then. Then, In 2011, a new fossil that looks just him was discovered! Its called Cronopio dentiacutus (although it didn't live in the ice age and wasn't a squirrel).
32:13 if you pause here, you can see that Soto attacked Diego's left side, and he was lying down on THAT side when talking to Manny and Sid. If it wasn't a kid's movie, this would most likely mean that Diego received a BIG deadly scratch that would have made him bleed out, and that's what lead all of us think that he wouldn't make it out of that.
This movie is so amazing, especially two things I like the most: First: Manny is such an incredible character: humans killed his wife and his child and he still brings a human child back to the father, just fantastic! And second: when the father gives the necklace of his wife to Manny. He gives the only thing that reminds him of his wife to the one who has brought him the most important. I don't know, but even as a kid I always found these two facts magical and just wonderful! But one thing makes me really sad, everytime I'm thinking about it (little SPOILER for the next movies): Manny won't wear the necklace in the other movies. If he would, that would make my second favourite scene much more heartwarming!!
A great reaction as always ♥️ one of the things I liked the most is that you immediately understood Manny's past displayed on the cave wall was about him losing his wife and kid. You would not believe how many people think it's depicting him losing his parents. I love how much empathy you have for everyone, even fictional characters!

It’s so sad that Blue Sky studios is over. They made really great movies growing up. Doesn’t Ice Age remind you of Shrek ? Manny and Sid are like Shrek and Donkey. Diego is like Puss since they’re both cats. What a time to be the only child.
Interestingly, I just read that another studio will apparently make another Ice Age movie in a couple of years. I guess we'll have to see where that goes.

19:02 This scene with the soundtrack never fails to energise me. Haven’t done it for a while, but used to always put it on in the background for doing a spring clean 😊 20:47 One of my favourite quotes- my family uses this every now and again in life 😅 Loved your reaction to this film, always amazes me at how good you are at understanding people (or in this case animals) and their emotions, something I’ve always struggled with. Also loved how you kept referring to the sabre pack as a herd. Made me smile every time ❤
An interesting fact about tigers is that they're very vengeful. If you wrong a tiger, it will continue to hunt you the rest of your life until you die. The leader being so determined to get the baby follows those tiger instincts
My parents put this on all the time when we were kids. My sister and I must have memorized the whole movie 😅 it's so nice to see this fresh through someone else's eyes. In my opinion your empathy makes you the best reactor :) I wish more people viewed things the same way 😊
I haven't seen this movie in years. As a kid, it never really struck me how sad it is that all these characters are basically alone until they find each other. Manny's family died, Sid's family abandoned him, and Diego's family basically tells him to bring back dinner or don't bother coming home.
I love this movie! I'm really glad you weren't offput by how the character designs look in this movie. Personally I find them really charming, but I often hear people comment that they think it's all ugly, and hate for how the early humans look. Also, maybe it's just the colors on my TV, but you look a bit tired in the eyes, mate. I hope you're doing alright and taking some time for yourself. Cheers ☕
36:47 this is one of the rare franchises i prefer watching in german, for Sid is spoken by a popular comedian (Otto Walkes) it's the best. Ice Age, Shrek and Monster Inc to me will forever be the big 3!
I like to imagine this interaction between Manny and returning the baby to the humans is what sparks the beginning of legends of good spirits taking the form of animals for that particular group of humans.
😎👍 During it's 17 year existence (2002-2019), Blue Sky Studios released a handful of top-notch animated features. You've already seen "Rio" so I recommend also checking out "Robots" (2005), "Epic" (2013), "Ferdinand" (2017) and "Spies In Disguise" (2019). 😉
Fun fact about Scrat (the saber tooth squirrel), fossils and bones HAVE been discovered of an animal similar to Scrat. HOWEVER, the movie came first! Scrat was made as a joke, the running gag of the franchise. But turns out, his kind ACTUALLY existed!
And when I learned that fact many years ago, I didn't know to be scared (knowing his role in this francise😂) or be excited by the discovery. And to be honest I still don't know how I feel about it. 😂
It's amazing how far animation has come. Ice Age was top notch technology at the time, but nowadays a hobbyist can animate the whole thing at the same or better quality using free programmes. Sometimes I wish that instead of live action remakes, they would just reanimate Ice Age, Toy Story etc.
I love this movie. So much fun, such a great story, and I always cry twice. Every time I’ve watched it. Once when Manny looks at the drawings and then when Diego "dies" - it just always gets me
I absolutely LOVE the Ice Age movies!! I’ve recently come across your channel and it’s great content! For some reason I find it so fun to watch other people’s reactions to movies. I have SUCH a core memory with the first Ice Age movie. I would used to make forts when I was younger and watch my VHS version on a small TV. Doing that was such a vibe and so much fun!! I can’t recall how many times I did that!! Loved your reaction!!
I think it's heavily implied she was either hurt or just extremely tired from holding herself and her child up out of the water for so long and after she knew her baby was going to be safe she finally just let herself go and most likely got swept into the currents.
I loved this, took me back to when I first saw it and had all the same questions and reactions. ❤Please do the whole series, I'd love to see how you react to how significantly better the animation and the story gets ❤
This is one of my all time favourite movies. I cry every time I watch it and has a lot of depth you don't fully understand as a kid but unravels more and more throughout the years when you watch it again. I teach English as a foreign language and I have shows this to all of my students for one of our movie days. They always love it and I usually have a classroom filled with crying students at the end of the movie which means a lot knowing that it can resonate with them so intensely despite the language barrier.
There are few movie intros more memorable or hilarious than the squirrel going through all that just to get stomped 😂 … And there are few movie endings that bring more tears to my eyes than the father getting his baby back 🥹😭 I love revisiting this childhood classic with you! What a solid film. What solid, memorable, well-written characters. I forgot how good it was!
34:49 In the original cut of the film they were going to kill off Diego but all the test audiences kids cried so the voice of Diego, Denis Leary suggested to the director "We should have my character pull through. You don't want movie theaters filled with crying kids." And the Director listened to him and animated him living.

If this was more realistic, Sid wouldve actually worn Diego as a fur suit. The Giant Ground Sloth was a beast of a creature that was about 10 feet tall
So glad to hear you'll be reacting to more Christmas movies! I love the old classics so much. A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, Meet Me in St Louis are all phenomenal.
The ice cavern scene with Sid seeing everything frozen in the ice is actually foreshadowing to the next 4 movies (some clues are more apparent and crucial than others)
Oh Ice Age was an amazing film growing up! And I’m actually curious in asking you this, are you planning on watching any more Christmas related movies for your reaction videos? *pans over to your cellphone* “I’m watching you Wasowski. ALWAYS watching.”
19:02 This scene with the soundtrack never fails to energise me. Haven’t done it for a while, but used to always put it on in the background for doing a spring clean 😊
20:47 One of my favourite quotes- my family uses this every now and again in life 😅
Loved your reaction to this film, always amazes me at how good you are at understanding people (or in this case animals) and their emotions, something I’ve always struggled with. Also loved how you kept referring to the sabre pack as a herd. Made me smile every time ❤
ice age baby
An interesting fact about tigers is that they're very vengeful. If you wrong a tiger, it will continue to hunt you the rest of your life until you die. The leader being so determined to get the baby follows those tiger instincts
My parents put this on all the time when we were kids. My sister and I must have memorized the whole movie 😅 it's so nice to see this fresh through someone else's eyes. In my opinion your empathy makes you the best reactor :) I wish more people viewed things the same way 😊
Sid is iconic 💚🔥
Scrat is my fav character in the series. Even though he's a micro character
Cheers ☕
One movie you should definitely react to is The Muppet Christmas Carol. It is my favorite version of the Christmas Carol, hands down.
36:47 this is one of the rare franchises i prefer watching in german, for Sid is spoken by a popular comedian (Otto Walkes) it's the best.
Ice Age, Shrek and Monster Inc to me will forever be the big 3!
Otto Walkes as Sid is so incredibly iconic, nothing could live up to that performance 😂 I totally agree!
@@likecat7886 I'll say, when I learned it, I wondered what other animals we think we make up will turn out to have been real
@@gamebeast4191 Yi qi is basically like a very tiny fluffy prehistoric dragon :D
You know the Rules!
You gotta Watch the Rest!
Thank you for this great content. Watching stuff with you feels like watching with a good friend!
Once when Manny looks at the drawings and then when Diego "dies" - it just always gets me
12:40 "It's making me feel better too!" 😂
I absolutely LOVE the Ice Age movies!!
31:34 you should see what Sid’s real life counterpart was…a GIANT ground sloth.
If I’m not mistaken, they could EASILY take sabers
I love that your videos always in so good quality
I think it's heavily implied she was either hurt or just extremely tired from holding herself and her child up out of the water for so long and after she knew her baby was going to be safe she finally just let herself go and most likely got swept into the currents.
Have you ever seen "pride and prejudice and zombies"? That movie is unhinged in best way, they meshed Austen and horror into wonderful package.
We found him! The one guy who finds the Ice Age baby cute!😂
I absolutely love your reactions 🎉❤ Thank you 🙏
There are few movie intros more memorable or hilarious than the squirrel going through all that just to get stomped 😂 … And there are few movie endings that bring more tears to my eyes than the father getting his baby back 🥹😭
I love revisiting this childhood classic with you! What a solid film. What solid, memorable, well-written characters. I forgot how good it was!
"No thanks, I choose life." is something I still quote today in my thirties
OMG! This series is one of my favorites❤❤❤ so excited to see you love these films bc I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy them thoroughly😂😂😂😂
Scratt goes through this in the beginning of every “Ice Age” movie.
I love these movies, I'll be watching these 50 years from now and still smiile and laugh as if it was my first time watching them
10:48 when Sid says dont spear me he’s also saying don’t, spare me XD
34:49 In the original cut of the film they were going to kill off Diego but all the test audiences kids cried so the voice of Diego, Denis Leary suggested to the director "We should have my character pull through. You don't want movie theaters filled with crying kids." And the Director listened to him and animated him living.
I just noticed about 20 years later, that the baby did the 🖖 live long and prosper sign from startrek 😂😭
Maan, what a concurrence, I was just thinking how cool it would be to watch your reaction to Ice Age. One of my all time favourites, along with Madagascar 👌❤️
Cats' eyes shine at night because they have a reflective layer in the back of their eyes called the tapetum lucidum, which reflects light back into the eye.
There are no words how happy this reaction makes me. Thank you. :) This one is still my favorite, it has the perfect balance of humor and emotional moments. But 2-4 are very good too.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH youre ganna absolutely lovve this franchise. already CALLING now that Oscar will love Buck.
🥹🥹 sooo excited for this one! Thank you so so much for reacting and sharing! ❤️❤️ it’s definitely still a top favorite Disney movie, although the 2nd one is my fav of the series!🫶🏼
it's not a Disney movie though. It was made by a studio called Blue Sky
@ yeah I know, but it’s on the Disney app now and it’s the easiest way for me to categorize. I don’t know much about Blue Sky at all.
Bro I can't wait till you get to the rest of this series. 2 and 3 are my most favorite. One of the few examples where the sequel surpasses the first one :)
17:43 Now that reaction is everything
This franchise is literally my childhood. And I laughed a lot over the years with each movie.
i remember going to watch this movie in theatres when it came out, i was 8 or 9 years old, and i remember laughing so much and enjoying it a lot even though i didn't understand the plot at the time
If this was more realistic, Sid wouldve actually worn Diego as a fur suit. The Giant Ground Sloth was a beast of a creature that was about 10 feet tall
I can't believe I didn't know Jack Black voiced one of the sabertooths until recently 😅
I was today years old
So glad to hear you'll be reacting to more Christmas movies! I love the old classics so much. A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, Meet Me in St Louis are all phenomenal.
12:13 one of my favorite jokes in the entire movie, if not franchise
21:42 when sir goes through the wrong path alone and finds the frozen animals you can tell they were there on purpose for the future movies they did
The ice cavern scene with Sid seeing everything frozen in the ice is actually foreshadowing to the next 4 movies (some clues are more apparent and crucial than others)
Sid's german dub voice is the best, istg
okay lighting 👏🏻 okay back ground 👏🏻 okay PROFESSIONAL👏🏻
Oh Ice Age was an amazing film growing up!
And I’m actually curious in asking you this, are you planning on watching any more Christmas related movies for your reaction videos? Cause if you have not seen Klaus or the Jim Carrey grinch… Those would be highly recommended to watch, especially for this time of year.
Ahh seeing the reactions to Scrats shenanigans is always fun to see ehen the person has no idea whats in store for the squirrel thing
5:59 the subtitle lmao
😂 No!! 😭😭😭
OMG
Auto generated subtitles know that they’re doing I’m telling ya 😂
Always loved your videos, I relate really well to your reactions, hope you're well dude! ❤
This original movie was a great watch at the cinema when it first came out :)
21:46 The funny example of "evolution".
Another amazing series, and scratt and his Acorn adventure is by far the best part of the franchise 😂💕
Thanks Oscar for making my day I don’t feel very well I have a cold and my voice sounds weird and I’m just resting in bed watching your channel on my tv I’m just commenting saying thank you for reacting to this this was my childhood I’m just happy that u got to reacted to this have a good day Oscar love from the uk keep it up man 🇬🇧💕
(I think and what I heard) happened to Diego was he got slashed either on the neck or belly, which obviously they cant show, and was supposed to die. But test screenings showed people got too upset by him dying so they chanced it and brought him back at the end.
I miss blue sky, they did so many of my childhood favourite movies, the ice age saga made me laugh so much, and yes, Scrat the squirrel character is a recurring one.
Ps: Blue sky also made Robots which is in my top 3 to 5 favourite movies
Eeee, my favourite childhood movie!! So happy you're reacting to Ice Age now!
This movie never gets old!
The little saber rat is called Scrat. There are more movies for Ice age…4 of them. They are worth watching if you have not seen them before however they don’t have the same feeling as the first
Diego was supposed to die in the original ending, but the kids for the test audience kept crying, so they changed it.
I got my septum pierced in the middle of Michigan winter. Snotcycles are very real, and unbearably annoying. Sid definitely had it the worst in that blizzard. 😂
This franchise is very popular in norway! Never seen my grandparents laugh as hard as they did watching these movies.
Diego was originally supposed to actually die but it made test audiences too sad so they changed it for the final release.
(21:40 T-rex 🦖)(21:56 alien spaceship 👽)
➡️ In the ice Cave ⬇️
(Mega Spoiler moment) to (Future ice agen movies 2 3 4 5 .....)
I have action figures of the original trio, but I somehow lost the Diego figure somewhere in my own house a few years ago and still haven't found it to this day :(
I don’t know if anyone else told you about this but the part of the lava blasting from the ground is something that happened a LOOOOOONNNGGG time ago with the Super Volcano under Yellowstone National Park here in the USA and is supposed to happen again, according to scientists. 😬😅
