    I'm commenting again here about 10 months after I first saw this. I too got the 30FE and 3100 codes on my car and after trying to research them it seems the solenoids don't have to be completely shot to be malfuntioning. Meaning they can seem to be working fine when tested but under heat and use they will not. As well the only fix for these codes is to replace these from what I could find. Thank you again for the great content. Subbed!

      Thanks means a lot, I did test mine on camera and they worked. But they were still bad. After replacing mine I haven’t had a problem since.

    8:19 First off Great video and well done! Thank you for the hard work and good info! However at this marker I must disagree. These cars are actually the best bang for the buck going these days. As long as the buyer/owner goes into it with their eyes wide open that they will have to be doing the work themselves it is the most economical hot rod platform anywhere. These cars are selling for cheap (I just picked one up that had a bad High Pressure Fuel pump for $1500) so you get a broken one for a faily great price. But everything after that is piece meal money. You don't need a $5000 savings at any point while building them into a VERY fast car. $150 here and $100 there and soon you have an excellent machine. You can't get that out of any other car platform out there right now for that kind of money. I'm now into the car I bought for $3500 all together and I didn't have to have it all in one lump sum. I had to wait a few months while I built it but now I have a 450hp car that I'm going to continue to make into a 700 hp car! Cheap and awesome!

      Thanks for the comment, I kinda agree but you can also get A Nissan or an Infiniti which are both excellent platforms just like this one. 100 here and there will get you parts, if you can wait 6-8months. I have almost 9k in just maintenance!!! Now that will vary on where you live and how much you do yourself. I agree and completely disagree. Thanks again for your support means a lot.

      @@eddieellison7679 have to agree here. HPFP is $1000 if you end up needing one, injectors are almost $500 a piece right now, turbos are $1000 - $3000 depending if you upgrade them. definitely a great platform for tuning and building, but I personally have had to spend about $500 every couple months on maintenance for about 2 years to keep my 335xi healthy, granted some of it is normal stuff that does go bad like tires, brakes, fluids and suspension but I've never had to do oil pan gaskets, oil filter gaskets, solenoids, new valve cover and gasket, cleaning valves, vanos crap ect.. which pretty much all need done on every n54 at some point. I haven't seen this many failed items needing addressed on any other platform even if modified.

    I have the same thing it threw the 3100 and 2abc code. When driving I noticed my boost to be laggy and come on a lot less. And eventually if I pushed the car a little too hard would throw me into limp mode. Once I replaced my solenoids the boost felt more linear and smooth. But when I tested the solenoids they seem to be working fine.

      Mine worked still after I removed them, but once I replaced with new ones I never got the code again. It seems to have been one of my issue. They can and will fail Intermittently. I think mine were just giving up. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Hope yours is driving good.

    hey man, im getting the same code. I replaced my vacuum lines and i checked my charge pipe and intercooler piping as well and everything is perfect. I also replaced the vanos solenoids. I was coming to think it was my turbos but my car only has 116,000 and its an 07 and ive never heard of turbos failing in that low of mileage. I know my turbos work because when i start up the car, theres no "engine malfunction" on my idrive but then when i press on the gas, i feel the turbos heavily, but then the "engine malfunction" comes on and it throws me into limp mode. Did this fix your problem? because when i was replacing my vanos solenoids, i tested them to 12v and they worked fine but i bought new ones and replaced them then the code finally went away. Im going to test my boost solenoids tomorrow morning but even if they work, should i replace them? everything else is good so im assuming this is the last resort as "3100" is the only code my car has. Please get back to me!

      Yes I have not seen this code again, since I’ve replaced both of mine. All the other stuff you’ve done is not wasted for sure. All good at that mileage. Turbos on these car can fail at 80k as the waste gate valve is the issue. You should hear Metallic sounding rattle, like mine. I’ve posted that sounds as well. I’d definitely put new Boost solenoids. Thanks for watching and commenting, let me know if that worked?

    Another thing you can do is move them away from the heat i dont know why bmw puts them so close to the headers

    I got a 30FC code a while back and keeps intermittently popping up when getting close to around red line. Not sure if it has carbon build up or any type of oil residue in the DVs. It makes full boost at 8.5 PSI or so stock with no maps. I’ve checked vacuum lines my intakes which when I installed them triggered this code. I’m aiming at these but i trouble shooted them and worked just fine. Then sometimes when I pop the hood it just buzzes like crazy. (30FC Turbocharger boost leak).

    • @eddieellison7679
      @eddieellison7679  3 года назад

      If you car is stock, I’d suggest someone did a smoke test. That is honestly the best way and fastest to detect vacuum leaks/leaks period in a almost 100% plastic engine bay. If you are short on cash I’d start with your charge pipe.
