Great video! I have a suggestion for all you older folks. Listen to the video all the way through and then go back an make bullet points. Type them out in small print and have them laminated (or not) and take them to the lake. This way you won't forget what you have to set.
Now that I'm 10 minutes from the boat launch, I can study your videos at night and take what I learn to water in the morning. It doesn't get any better than that!!
Your about the first guy that doesn't keep saying the same thing over and over. You know how to GET R DONE. You keep making these and i'll keep watching. Thank you
Can't get over how changing up settings based on your advice helped. Found some HUGE schools of crappie this past weekend. The structure they were sitting on looked like fully leafed out trees underwater. Thank you.
Thanks Jonny stayed for entire video. I'm a rookie fish finder owner who is also older generation. Just found your video lessons and love them. You make it more easier to understand for us simple minded folks.
I am running a Lowrance and a humminbirdon my boat. This was very helpful and I just ran into some problems with the Lowrance unit so now I feel like I can get the screen looking just like I need it to be. Thanks for your help and keep the great videos coming.
Jonny I just wanted to say, that even though I have my own channel, I watch you all the time. You are one of the most informative channels on RUclips!! Great video, and I stayed the entire length :-)
Dude you are the best. Your videos are so full of knowledge. I bought a Garmin 93SV a couple months ago and have been pleased with the images I’ve been getting on downvu and sidevu so after watching this video I am stoked to get that thing dialed in! I have really started using my graphs closer to their full potential this year completely thanks to you. I bet I have watched and listened to close to 50 of your videos in just the past few months.
I stayed on for the whole video. Thank you for your most helpful videos. They have been and will be a big help to me. I recently bought a Helix 5 DI and it has been a game changer. I can't imagine how great the more expensive units must be.
Been fishing all my life. Just recently decided to get a fish finder. I found a HDS9 touch Gen 2 for sale real cheap. In great shape. Been watching your videos and they are the very best I have ever seen. Just wanted to say I watch all of them all the way through and thank you for sharing your information with us. Keep em coming.
Today was my first day out on the water with my new lowrance hook 2 12inch triple shot. It’s quite the upgrade from the humminbird 698ci hd si. The information you provided at the end of the video for the lowrance reveal unit helped me understand the settings. I’m heading back out tomorrow so we’ll see how the new settings changes work. Great videos! Favorite fishing page.
Jonny it seems like you know exactly the things I struggle with and that’s what you make vids about.. off shore and deep water fishing, side imagining, picture clarity and so on.. thanks for your help man.
Great video. I took your advice and set my humminbird using these settings and it is alot more crisp. I"ve always set my side and down imaging around 10 on sensitivity and adjusted the contrast as needed, but by turning down the sensitivity to around 7 and adjusting the contrast to 12 is perfect. Thanks!
Yes I stayed the whole time. Being a photographer, this makes a lot of sense. I'm glad you talked about Auto Range, I've always had mine on and that does confuse me on the size of what I'm looking at. I took notes so I can put them on my phone for quick reference. Thanks!
stayed to watch! Ive used depth finders since they were made. my first was a shakspeare flasher in late 60s, move to flasher by hummingbird in the 70s, and then lowrance flasher, lowrance paper graphs the lowrance thru the years till todays ..... this and your other post are very detailed and I pick up knowledge on each one I watch. KEEP IT UP AND THANKS! Frank A. in N.C.
Great video! I found your page two weeks ago and have watched at least 30 videos already. Jonny has infectious energy and genuine passion. Insight from fishing legends Rick and Randy is priceless! Keep up the great work!
Buy the biggest screen size you can afford. Most important piece of equipment on your boat. If you are standing up front and trying to look down on a 7" screen to find fish while drop shotting, you'll kick yourself. Word! Great explanation!
Keep up the great work on all of your instructional videos. Some of the best, easily explained and understood information out there considering the somewhat confusing nature of this topic..
Yes, I stayed for the entirety! Great job. I’m waiting and learning all I can before I pull the trigger on my unit. You and a few others have given me a great deal of knowledge on utilizing these units to their full potential. Thank you and keep up the great work👍 personally, I like the longer videos...I think any true fisherman does😁
Fully watched and saved to my playlist for depth finder details as well for additional review. Thanks for sharing and ignore the down thumbs that can't focus as long as goldfish.
Great video. Would like to see more Garmin, my preferred brand. A lot of people are definitely switching to Garmin, but I understand why some are hesitant because Lowrance and Hummingbird have been in the fishing business longer.
Dude, this tutorial helped me understand my fish finder settings better. I played with and adjusted a few of the settings to the depth I constantly fish at. Definitely got out of that AUTO settings and can’t wait to put it to the test this weekend 😎👍🏽
THANKS! Very helpful. Please keep doing what your doing. I have learned so much from your channel. Definitely have taken my fishing skills to the next level.
Great video, great info. One point I think worth mentioning, that would be nice for you to touch on in this video is when discussing and showing your side imagining you need to inform people watching how SI actually reads. On your graph image you were in 45fow with SI set at 75'. You're only seeing 30' on each side of your boat with that setting. In my opinion, adjusting SI range depending on depth is critical to achieve what most guy's desired/expected results are.
I truly enjoyed. I have a lowrance hds 9 not live so I'm going to make the adjustment you advised. I'm in Ga. If not I would take one of your classes. Thank you. Please keep doing what you are doing, very helpful....Thanks Tony
Awesome info bro! I wish I had half as much knowledge as you on these units. I'm still trying to figure out my unit. I am a newbie on this SI business.
Wow you really know your units and I sure needed the help so I'm going to try to remember what you taught me I'm saving this video and probably have to refer back to it but thanks a lot man appreciate your time and I know you're busy feeling got a lot of things to do so appreciate you and have a good day
I got one of the Black Friday Cabelas Helix 10s deals. Once I do some install videos I’m going to be playing with it and watching this video to get the settings as best as possible
Yeh, I'm late to the party too. I've owned my Hummingbird Helix 7 for my Hobie kayak for a few years and never really learned to use it. I'm mainly an ice fishing dude but I do like the fishing kayak when I can get it out. I'm pretty sure I've learned more general information in this video about sonar use than all the other channels with like information combined. I'm confident that after 2 0r 3 more of these I'll actually finally know how to use my unit. Thanks a bunch.......
I would like to see more info about Garmin. I know a lot of guys are going to it because of live scope. I think this was a great video thanks for your hard work.
When setting back to default, make sure you remove the Navionics or chart chip from the unit as it may messup the chip. All in all this was an excellent video.
Johnny, Thank you so much for these EXPLANATIONS!! Absolutely the best I've witnessed!!! Been taking notes throughout this video!!! Have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year!
Good info, watched the whole video...never really thought about taking my units off "Auto Range" but you made a good point in doing so. So I'm gonna give it a shot.
This guy does a better job than most "experts"! I'm installing a Garmin 93sv echomap on my Triton so I want to be smarter about fish finders. I would really like to see settings for lakes with grass/weed bottoms. The returns are weak and it can hide fish. Any suggestions?
Another super helpful instructive video! Thank you for taking the time and effort to make and share with us. Keep up the excellent work! I look forward to seeing your next one!
Thanks...I stayed for the complete video. As a photographer, it seems very similar to adjustments that I make while editing a RAW image. In photography as in using the fish finder...you need to understand your preferred settings but be willing to tweak 'em according to the other variables...and know what you're looking for. Thanks!!
Great video! I have a suggestion for all you older folks. Listen to the video all the way through and then go back an make bullet points. Type them out in small print and have them laminated (or not) and take them to the lake. This way you won't forget what you have to set.
Stayed the whole time. Great information. I would like to see the set up on a Garmin ECHOMAP like 73sv or 93sv.
Now that I'm 10 minutes from the boat launch, I can study your videos at night and take what I learn to water in the morning. It doesn't get any better than that!!

Awesome video!! Just bought my first boat and fish finder and this answered so many questions for me.
you are a good teacher, explain things clear with out hesitation. that makes it easy to understand. kudos
This is one of the best finder operations video i have seen, saved this one too my play list.
Appreciate these type of straight up instructional, information, data type
videos
I swear this is my 4th or 5th time watching your “basic” electronic videos. Good stuff
I stayed the whole time. I’m definitely a bass fishing nerd and also a newbie so this was awesome.
I share your videos because the way you explain things , even a caveman could understand it! Keep up the excellent work!!
Thanks for the helpful tips. Anything to decrease fishing time and increase catching time is very appreciated!
Watched the whole thing and will probably rewatch it several times
I am running a Lowrance and a humminbirdon my boat. This was very helpful and I just ran into some problems with the Lowrance unit so now I feel like I can get the screen looking just like I need it to be. Thanks for your help and keep the great videos coming.
Probably the best info that I have seen in a while. Most videos from other anglers trying to sell something!!
These are awesome! The posers chasing the free 'pro staff' carrots is getting nauseating.
Stayed the whole video and would've stayed for another hour. Thanks for what you do!
Jonny I stayed for the whole video. Love the way you walk through your presentation. You make it simple and informative. Keep up the great work.
Jonny I just wanted to say, that even though I have my own channel, I watch you all the time. You are one of the most informative channels on RUclips!! Great video, and I stayed the entire length :-)
Absolutely wonderful job. I hope you'll be taking appointments for image setting all spring.
Excellent video! I learned a great deal. Professional, clear, and concise presentation. Thanks.

Amazing detail and information hope that maybe classes can resume once this craziness is over. Thanks and stay safe.

I’m looking for a kayak fish finder. Your videos are a great help.

Great video, with clear and concise instructions, Thanks. Keep’em coming.
Great video on using a fish finder. I watched the entire video once and part of it a second time.
Great video. Would like to see more Garmin, my preferred brand. A lot of people are definitely switching to Garmin, but I understand why some are hesitant because Lowrance and Hummingbird have been in the fishing business longer.
Thank you. Very good explanation of how to fine tune the fish finder.
Dude, this tutorial helped me understand my fish finder settings better. I played with and adjusted a few of the settings to the depth I constantly fish at. Definitely got out of that AUTO settings and can’t wait to put it to the test this weekend 😎👍🏽
Very good video cleared up a lot of areas that were hard to understand
THANKS! Very helpful. Please keep doing what your doing. I have learned so much from your channel. Definitely have taken my fishing skills to the next level.
Stayed the whole time. It was very informative!
great video. I did not think it was too long as you needed the time to convey the information.
Great info! Really enjoy all of the videos you put out and how crisp you are with your explanations. Keep up the good work!
You really put some HUGE effort into that video. Thank you 👊💥
Great tutorials. Very well done and easy to understand.
Thank you soooo much for the in-depth Setting Information you provide.
Great info, especially the way you referenced different manufacturer settings! Looking forward to the more in depth Lowrance info for fish reveal.
Really good Sonar setup basics....... Really enjoyed your walk through....
Great job , thank you for your precise ideas on how to adjust the fish finder image , I have been watching most your videos and appreciate your work .

Great video, once again. Watched every minute, as I do all your videos. Great job! Thanks for all your hard work.
Awesome info bro! I wish I had half as much knowledge as you on these units. I'm still trying to figure out my unit. I am a newbie on this SI business.
Great video. Good way to start the morning with a cup of coffee. 32 mins is nothing when you are learning
Stayed the whole time. I'm a new 1rst time boat owner and rookie fisherman. Trying to learn all I can.
Great help for learning to use the graphs
Wow you really know your units and I sure needed the help so I'm going to try to remember what you taught me I'm saving this video and probably have to refer back to it but thanks a lot man appreciate your time and I know you're busy feeling got a lot of things to do so appreciate you and have a good day

Thanks for the great explanation how to use the settings the correct way.
Great informative video - hope your career path is panning out! Keep up the great work!

Great information, thank you. I like “what we are looking for” instead of set the settings here. It will help me for sure.
Just found this video, amazing job explaining, it helped me a lot with my finder.
I LEARNED A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT DOWN SCAN IT REALLY HELPED MY ADJUSTMENTS
Good info, watched the whole video...never really thought about taking my units off "Auto Range" but you made a good point in doing so. So I'm gonna give it a shot.
