Loved your info you gave about the native brookies. I’m a huge native flora and fauna species advocate. It’s so important that we keep them at the forefront of our conservation efforts. I love fishing for Browns but sometimes I do think about how monstrous our Brook Trout would be if we didn’t introduce browns and rainbows into the Driftless area.

TOO TOO MANY HARD CORE WORSHIPERS OF RELEASING A TROUT HAVE MADE A RELIGION OUT OF IT ...YOU MAKE IT FUN!!!!
Great video! I visited South Pine earlier this spring with my tenkara rig, before the vegetation along the creek had grown. I had the whole creek all to myself. The cool temps, low water level, and clear skies made it a real challenge to get in range without spooking the fish. Finally found a pool with a downed tree laying next to it, large enough to hide behind. I had researched in advance about the rarity of these fish, how they had survived in this creek since the end of the last ice age, and it was an amazing rush and thrill landing the first one. Those who scoff and say "I know other places where I can catch bigger brookies" ...well, they just don't get it.
Another excellent video. Very fun to watch and it’s edited well to make it interesting. I also enjoyed your comments Mike about the brook trout. It was nice you included that too.
Those look like the brookies in a few streams in northwestern Minnesota. No one knows about the streams in this region. One of them is a literal dredged irrigation ditch fed by springs. Lol. Nice video. One of the better brookie vids I’ve seen.
Cool vid. I just found a little stream today with some wild brookies in it. So cool to see, I just sat and watched them do their thing for a while. I’m hoping to get into fly fishing this spring. Thanks for the videos!
It is such a fun time to be out on the water right now!! It really gives you a chance to see some cool behavior! Thank you so much! You should it is so much fun!!
Another solid video. I will be at north bear and south bear this week. Now I definitely plan to hike south pine. Thanks for all the history too. People need to understand the mysterious of the driftless. No better place on earth!!!
Hey Mike, Great fish here man. Nice breakdown about what makes them special! Gorgeous native brookies and got them on a variety of flies. Loved your passion for these fish and exuding it to all of us to see. Keep up the great work buddy, tight lines!
SUPER nice bookies! Just waiting to see you hook into one of those albinos (just kidding). Great video Mike. Love that gin-clear brookie water, it’s like fishing in God’s fish tank. Tight lines!
Awesome video! We are going to head out there for the first time this summer We are going to get our first fly rods and gear Where did you get that cool backpack?
I fished this creek a few weeks ago back in mid October. I made a big mistake by starting out too late in the day and too late in the season. It was under a bluebird sky and the fish ultra spooky. Did catch anything but I spooked quite a few. The stream was pretty overgrown with floating greenery and then to add insult to injury a piece of buried barbed wire punched a whole in my waders. Fortunately it was an easy fix.
You should hit up French sometime. I love the northern portion of French. It's all catch and release. Wild browns as well. I've catch most of my big browns on French.
@@FLYALLSZN Yeah pretty much there is an area called the Lake District south of Scotland when the glaciers receded at the end of the Ice Age these unique Char trout were left behind!
Never liked the naming of streams if you care about the fish. These days you are just inviting everyone to put pressure on delicate streams such as this. I get it if you want people to watch and it is a good video but I don't think you are doing wild fish a favor.
Chris Walklet thankfully, for the sport of fly fishing, that gatekeeping perspective is fading away. Additionally, location on a body of water Is much more important than the name of the body of water since the names of all the water that’s been fished, along with the species of fish to be found, is available to everyone. Tight lines Chris!
@@robperry9065 You know all systems are fragile and we all should be gatekeepers to a certain respect. The idea that exposure is a harmless thing is not a correct perspective when dealing with small sensitive streams such as this. As stated in the title "The Rarest Trout In The State' this stream was not even mapped in Jene Hughes book Iowa trout streams because he feared for the safety of its population. I think the video is well done and it is not the first that Mike has done that I have seen. That being said my perspective is the content is just as good without the mention of this or any stream that is not large enough for wild fish to avoid the added pressures. I too have a channel and just recently fished the region. It is beautiful country and some wonderful streams. Just a thought and my perspective on making sure places like this thrive. This videos and editing along with the enthusiasm are all great in these videos. Just saying.
Chris Walklet thanks for your explanation of your perspective, and I agree, we should all be wardens of the resources we have access too. Being a warden does not however bestow the right of us to deny others access, whether informationally or physically, to publicly supported places. If the area is too fragile to thrive in the presence of expected pressure then such areas should be made off limits to all the public. I am guessing if the potential of harm existed then the DNR would be shutting down public access to this stream in order to protect the resource. As they are not, I can only assume that the pressure data they have, in combination with the restrictions mentioned, is enough to ensure the health and safety of the stream and it’s treasured resources. Thanks again for sharing your perspective Chris, I really appreciate the ability to be able to have discussions like these in a respectful manner. Tight lines!
@@robperry9065 I believe everyone should be able to fish unbridled and enjoy the resources that we all are so lucky to enjoy. This channel is a good reflection on the sport. One of the things I really liked about my recent trip was the partnership with the landowners to access the water. I unfortunately have witnessed the demise of some wild streams because of social media exposure. As we know these places are fragile. That was what I was responding to and it is a fact that Jene Hughes felt the same to a degree. My Channel is my name Chris Walklet. I have one video called RIVER KEEPERS-IT BEGINS AND ENDS WITH YOU. Mike's is a good channel and as I said I have watched his videos and know what he puts into it. Enthusiasm for the sport, love for the region and "get'm back" care for the fish. Its all good. Just had to mention how I feel about the names in regard to their care. No knock there.
Enjoyed this one mike! Some sizable Brookies there! Well Done!

Dude awesome vid! We camped and fished there last summer and I’m trying to plan a trip back. That was one of my favorite creeks we hit, just amazing.
I love it so much!! Those brookies are absolutely gorgeous!
The brookies out there seem alot more green than the ones out here in MA and NH. Interesting!
Your enthusiasm is terrific as is your knowledge and skill. Coming to that area from out of state in early October to fish. Fly recommendations?
Retro Radio I sure as heck do! Shoot my a dm on Instagram and we can talk over some of my favorite streams in the area!

That barbed wire over the stream is insanity irresponsible.
