its here. lots of you were asking about a roxy fansong and i guess this is the closest thing phemieC has??? anyway it's a good song and i love it. also i had a hard time figuring out what art to use for the background because i was gonna use the track art, but i couldnt edit out the words and then i found some fanart but i couldn't find the artist to credit so then i went w/ this.

They're like one of the most depressing sessions in Homestuck
By design, too. They're a null session, in every other case they'd have been an uninteresting footnote of a team that somehow fucked up the most basic of tasks (prototyping your sprite at least once pre-medium), but because the Beta kids were coming they get a free pass to glory
don't mind me just forgetting the epilogues one sad alpha song at a time.
1-800-HABITORRABBIT Were they good? They seem a little long and the content warning kinda scare me. I already read the summary but im a little afraid to go in depth
@@af3897 hi I'm very late but as someone who read the epilogues and hs2, I genuinely don't think it's worth it. It's very convoluted and it goes against some of the most developed (or even some underdeveloped) characters' arcs. The writers just kinda. Throw em out the window. Dirk and Dave hit me hardest, personally, since I relate to their way of thinking sometimes. If you can, stay away from them!
@@karkleisdead4225 I managed to stay away for this long, I became uninterested after finding out what happened to some of the characters that made it to end of homestuck bc like so much of it seems out of character
@@karkleisdead4225 agreed -- i didn't wanna bear reading hs^2 since i heard it sucked and it wasn't mainly written by hussie anyway . i did read the epilogues though , and they were pretty confusing and gut wrenching . i do believe there's some sort of reason behind it though . someone described it as "the safety gloves were thrown off , and they're now adults thrown into a more devastating reality" or something . i don't really know , but if that's the real intent , then i guess i respect the epilogues a little more . sorry if this made no sense it's 2 am lol
@@abysmDelirium that's for sure a valid opinion, and I can agree with you on it! I feel like I'd agree more if it didn't feel like the epilogues were weird and dark for the sake of being weird and dark, you know? And also completely out of character-- Jane and Dirk are probably the best examples of that. Jane and Jake's "relationship," Dirk not getting over his control issues at all, Gamzee doing... whatever the fuck he was doing, plus a million other strange and nonsensical character choices. I respect the epilogues for taking it all one step further than the original comic, but it just never felt right.

Honestly it's great coming back to these now that I've actually read Homestuck and picking up on how well-written the lyrics are
Like the allusion to Roxy's selfless efforts to help out the colony she grew up in while simultaneous grappling with her own issues
"Messages in bottles are like battering rams" making a nod to how all the miscommunication and lack of communication about her true feelings affected Jane
The little hope bit in Dirk's part, and how it sank-- much like his relationship with Jake
Part of me kind of interprets the whole island theme typically meaning isolation to perhaps even be related to how everyone's shoddy teamwork caused Act 6 to be the catstrophe it was-- but now that I'm putting it into words it sounds like too much of a stretch, but oh well

Islands are characterized by isolation, being unconnected from the greater whole that is continents. All of the alpha kids led extremely isolated lives where they only ever interacted with other humans sparcely if at all, in fact only Jake and Jane ever saw other humans in person. Jane had her dad and lived in a normal suburban neighborhood, but wasn't allowed to leave home due to the risk of assassination attempts. Jake had Grandma Harley only very briefly before she died. The Strilondes were both alone, with the only consolation being non-human company like Sawtooth, Square wave, and Lil' Hal for Dirk and the Carapacians for Roxy, carapacians who didn't speak English and weren't very social otherwise, just desperate for food. And all her cats.

I honestly don't get most of the imagery of this song that well, but considering how much I'm crying about it it must be some good shit.

I sadly started properly interneting a tad too late for homestuck's prime(too young sadge) and have no idea what the heck this song is on about but it's freaking awesome so props to whoever made it
It's about the Alpha kids and I think it's referencing how their session was stranded, and so was Dirk Roxy and Jake,

Pretty much all I know about homestuck is that there's the four types of romance represented by card symbols and that moirials are the diamond one, and there's a character named dave strider who has something to do with the color red and some form of music storage(and I only know that one because of all the posts comparing the dream SMP to homestuck). I think there's also a villain with a green and white color scheme? same reason as the last one. And the people with the cool color pallettes and the four types of romance are called trolls and that an inexperienced cosplayer used a sharpie bath to try and get that skintone one time. I mean rock on, I want to read homestuck someday I find this stuff fascinating(And other than the year I share a birthday with this thing I don't often believe in fate but this is one case where I'm tempted to) but that tells me nothing. I recognize nothing in that sentence. /lh

god i love this song so much!! the a capella elements are super cool, and it's definitely much more polished in comparison to made of death. phemie's songs are just brilliant 38)
Soph made of death was meant to be a mess to fit the character of Aradia. So technically both are really good
@@Garden0flowr you're right! i still see some of the harmonies as a little clashy (and phemie themselves said it was overrated) in comparison. but that's all stylistic! made of death fits dia, there are just some grating bits.

If this hasn't been cleared up for you, basically there's a thing that happens called "the Scratch" that "resets" everything, except it swaps the Beta kids and their "parents" in time- so the "parents" grow up as the Alpha kids, with the Beta kids taking the place of the parents.
The fact you struggled to remember her name just reinforces my personal belief that Jane was a bland and forgettable character, even when compared to the rest of the beta kids

@@CakefoxDots That makes sense. I just thought there were a few lines that seemed like they were for the opposite character. For example:
"I was raised by an ocean of creatures and brands," should have been Jane's line because she's, as you said, the heiress of a tech company and brand.
"[Messages] in bottles feel like battering rams," feels like a line written for Roxy because of her Message in a Bottle Fetch Modus.
Apart from that, I do agree with what you said!

to everyone who wants this explained to them:
phemie is singing as the alpha kids, who say they are an island. they don't mean it literally, the meaning that i got from it is that they give their all for others' benefit and they don't sink nor give up.
sleepyscissor also islands represent loneliness. the phrase "no man is an island" means that no one is alone and completely separated from society
It's also referring to how the alpha kids were all so entirely seperated. While all the alternians could have visited each other at any time, and we knew they had been in person, and the beta kids were in large part within reach, even if none of them really lived especially near each other, all of the alphas were isolated in one way or another. Jake on his lonely pacific home filled with monsters, Roxy and Dirk afloat on the waves of an apocalypse with nothing but chess people or rapping robots to keep them company, or Jane confined for her safety.

It can be used in plural, but it has also been used singularly long before people started using them as their pronouns.

I mean, I suppose so? But phemiec is nonbinary so they don't identify with either binary gender, and some nonbinary people use gender neutral pronouns, each for their own reasons.
