Battle For Survival is just godlike, I can't think of any RPG series at the moment where battle OST makes turn-based combat feel like playing Devil May Cry.
DDS really is Meguro's magnum opus. The style shift between 1&2 perfectly reflects the story. I played them at launch and still after all these years Hunting Betrayal and Airport make me teary eyed
I love the disparity between DDS1s songs and DDS2. In DDS2 the songs feel more like heroic battles rather than DDS1's "I can't afford to lose" another way of showing how far the embroyn came
theres something poetic about madness, the intensity of instrumentals giving you the sense that your party has gone somewhat feral and then the sudden calmness of the piano... just soooo good
It's hard to describe how special DDS 1&2 and their soundtracks are to me honestly. DDS was my introduction to SMT and Shoji Meguro. I'm 33 now but I still have so many fond memories playing this game.
It's kind of insane how many battle themes there are in this game. The first time I played DDS1 I was really surprised everytime I heard a new one playing. And each and everyone of them gets you really motivated for the battle too. It's probably my favorite Atlus game soundtrack as a whole. The whole games feels super cohesive and the soundtrack in particular fits so well to the game's vibes and themes.
i love this game so much i have the Water Crown atma symbol tattoed (on my chest, not my face). also, Battle for Survival is one of my top battle themes in the entire MegaTen franchise. Wish Atlus would acknowledge DDS and remaster/remake it.
The raw emotion you can feel in Divine Identity always makes it stand out in my mind among great final boss tracks. You can feel the scale of the battle, the weight of our friends' sacrifices, like a fist closing around your heart. But also the love and the promise that even the mightiest tyrant can fall.
It's also a contrast. Normally you fight to kill God (or Lucifer) or someone who wants to become god. This time, you're fighting God to convince him to not destroy the world.
top five megaten soundtracks for me are 1. Persona 5 2. DDS 1 & 2 3. Persona 3 4. Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha 5. Too hard to decide between Nocturne and P4
From the when this game first released when I was 13, to now as 29 year old, Hunting Betrayal has always been my #1 favorite video game track out of any and all Ive come across
I remember hearing Hunting-Comrades for the first time in my younger days playing on ps2. It was a slap to the face. I just put the controller down and kept on listening. DDS1 probably has my favorite battle themes in all of the SMT franchise. Banger after banger.

PSP store is still closing, though it's super easy to emulate with ppsspp on and yes you can play two players and install DLC.

I'm more of a mainline SMT fan myself but I've never been fond of that kind of thinking in the community and personally imo people are stuck on their hate on the persona fandom and success more than the actual games.

I didn't play this game much, but most of the battle themes sound like you can tear your enemies to pieces, except you are terrified of yourself at this point
