They were fucking slaying it. Nocturne, DDS and Persona 3.
Meguro was mad devoted back then. He penned a couple masterpieces too for the Devil Summoner games on the PS2, can't forget those.

Battle For Survival is just godlike, I can't think of any RPG series at the moment where battle OST makes turn-based combat feel like playing Devil May Cry.

I'm always sad this game never gets as much recognition as other Shin Megami Tensei games. It is so good

DDS really is Meguro's magnum opus. The style shift between 1&2 perfectly reflects the story. I played them at launch and still after all these years Hunting Betrayal and Airport make me teary eyed
theres something poetic about madness, the intensity of instrumentals giving you the sense that your party has gone somewhat feral and then the sudden calmness of the piano... just soooo good

I love the disparity between DDS1s songs and DDS2. In DDS2 the songs feel more like heroic battles rather than DDS1's "I can't afford to lose" another way of showing how far the embroyn came
It's hard to describe how special DDS 1&2 and their soundtracks are to me honestly. DDS was my introduction to SMT and Shoji Meguro. I'm 33 now but I still have so many fond memories playing this game.

I just got it a few days ago, the game is Heat🔥🔥🔥.
It's kind of insane how many battle themes there are in this game. The first time I played DDS1 I was really surprised everytime I heard a new one playing. And each and everyone of them gets you really motivated for the battle too. It's probably my favorite Atlus game soundtrack as a whole. The whole games feels super cohesive and the soundtrack in particular fits so well to the game's vibes and themes.
Hunting Comrades and Hunting Betrayal are so freaking good.
Compulsion is pretty epic too

The raw emotion you can feel in Divine Identity always makes it stand out in my mind among great final boss tracks.
You can feel the scale of the battle, the weight of our friends' sacrifices, like a fist closing around your heart.
But also the love and the promise that even the mightiest tyrant can fall.
It's also a contrast.
Normally you fight to kill God (or Lucifer) or someone who wants to become god.
This time, you're fighting God to convince him to not destroy the world.
DDS2 for real has one of the best collection of battle themes in the entire MegaTen franchise

i love this game so much i have the Water Crown atma symbol tattoed (on my chest, not my face). also, Battle for Survival is one of my top battle themes in the entire MegaTen franchise. Wish Atlus would acknowledge DDS and remaster/remake it.

I remember hearing Hunting-Comrades for the first time in my younger days playing on ps2. It was a slap to the face. I just put the controller down and kept on listening.
DDS1 probably has my favorite battle themes in all of the SMT franchise. Banger after banger.
From the when this game first released when I was 13, to now as 29 year old, Hunting Betrayal has always been my #1 favorite video game track out of any and all Ive come across

DDS2で初めての戦闘曲流れた時、ボス戦の曲かっけぇ〜！と、興奮していたら通常バトル曲だったでござる。
通常バトルがボス曲ばりの盛り上がりでテンションぶち上がっていたのが懐かしい。

I was introduced to SMT through Persona so, I may be biased when I say games like Persona 5: The Royal or Persona 4: The Golden are good picks lol, not everyone has the same experience or whatever the actual term is, but you get the gist of it XD

Atlus RPGs are always a great addition to my gaming library. Great aesthetic, amazing music, and good characters.
Between Altus, SEGA and Nintendo, I’d say the gaming industry put everything they had and more into the 6th generation.

From Mr. X to Brahman, Thomas The Tank Engine fits all acting for menacing enemy's, even if he clashes tonally with the role.
They don't make JRPGs like this anymore -.-
DDS1 & 2 remain the best Atlus games imo. They were absolutely firing on all cylinders during the PS2 era and it all seemed to culminate in these 2 games. This duology should be huge and it's a damn shame it still isn't.

Both have such different energies. The first is more calm and reserved as they’re not used to their power, while the second is when they’ve become accustomed to it and are letting loose on their enemies.
to any atlus employee collecting feedback: yes there is demand for a digital devil saga remaster. please just make it better than nocturne's.
Meguro at his peak in terms of guitar work tbh. So happy that tracks in P5 like Keeper of Lust gave huge DDS vibes, to me at least
Shoji meguro is the boss. I like pretty much all his soundtracks
I don't know what happened with Meguro these days p5 OST is okay but nothing extraordinary

I wish they could’ve added these titles to ps now app, had 100s of hours fun playing these as a kid sadly not available on later gen consoles.

@@JayAreAitch your a bit late greedy Sony decided to keep ps3 and vita stores open. Probably because they made alot of money by making gamers panic buy ton of ps3 and vita exclusives.
PSP store is still closing, though it's super easy to emulate with ppsspp on and yes you can play two players and install DLC.

I'm more of a mainline SMT fan myself but I've never been fond of that kind of thinking in the community and personally imo people are stuck on their hate on the persona fandom and success more than the actual games.
