- This week, we're launching our new Trotec Foil Rolls, which are a laser friendly foil that you can stick and cut on any practically any hard flat surface.
Laser Foil Roll is a permanent bond PVC free foil that allows decals
and stencils to come to life by adding colour and flare to your projects. This foil offers a permanent bond, is excellent for decorative applications and is an excellent border tape.
In honour of the launch, we wanted to celebrate Movember with fun laser cut grooming applications like a mustache comb, pomade jars, and a grooming kit box.
**MATERIAL SETTINGS**
The foil works with a kiss cut method which is a very light and quick cut. For this project we've used 15 power, 2 speed on a Speedy 360 80w laser.

Will the foil be fine on cardboard boxes. Specifically the outside of magnetic gift boxes

So this is essentially like a vinyl right? There is nothing but the tackyness of the glue holding it down?
Yep exactly, it's extremely thin the feel is like your regular tin foil but has a sticky glue to hold it down.
Will this this work with one of those cheap mini table top wood laser engraver's.
Hi Joe, we've never tried but in theory yes.
You say it is a permanent bond - but then you peel it right off with ease? Is there a missing step to make sure the foil is really bonded to the surface?
Hi there, that's a good point, when the laser etches the kiss-cut it bonds the inner foil onto the surface where the outer layer can be peeled easily. We hope that helps.
should u press the foil down onto the substrate so no bubbles?
Yep we would suggest a roller or a squeegee

Hi John, yes this foil should work with any CO2 laser, but we can't speak on any other specific brands.

Yes that is true, but with a laser you can do so much more than what you can do with a vinyl cutter. This is just an additional application for the laser.

The end results of this method do not have a very precise edge finish in the video compared to die cut or plotter machine cut transfers
Great! What are the setting you are using for foil engraving. Gold And Silver foil has different size of thickness, and in 360 machine what do you choose in job control.

Hi Silvan, we're not sure and unfortunately cannot comment on another laser's capabilities.
If only you could use this for electronic circuit PCB boards. Maybe if you used conductive glue instead of solder. Tape layers would allow for multi layer circuits. If the foil was multi layers deep, higher current could be utilized. If you made an antenna array out of nickel foil, you could make a passive radar chaff reflectors.

What settings would you recommend for the speedy 100

What power of laser can I use this process?
Hi Rick, you don't need a lot of power to cut foil - even 30watts would do.
Would this work using a 50w blue laser?

The background is removable but anything that's lasered will show on the inner foil design.

Throwing away that amount of scrap foil isn't good at all for the environment.

I hope that foil is cheap, it seems you waste a lot doing text etc. Other than that it looks like a good product for adding extra value and detail to projects.
what setting are you using Paper ? what substrate am I setting it up in I am doing it on a glass but glass will not cut so what do we use ??????? This is important info you completely missed
Carol Wierzbicki hi Carol lets dial back the aggressiveness. The settings are in the video description. As you can see by the video we never do a full-cut on the foil, its always a kiss cut. Also, you should not cut glass with a laser, it can shard and crack. As in the video we have used the foil with wood, plastic and acrylic - place the foil on an object, do a kiss-cut, then peel off the extra foil that you are not using.
Looks great, but with no details, this is just an ad. Laser power, settings, ect. Nothing helpful here. You tell people to ask questions, but you don't answer the questions.
When a laser burns the film, sulfuric acid vapor is released, which will lead to equipment corrosion.
Yes when you use PVC. As mentioned in the video, this material is ***NOT*** PVC-based, none of our Trotec materials are PVC based. This material *IS* laser-safe. Thanks
