I think it's kinda funny how this caused my mother to be contacted by a film-maker. Yes. It's my mother there, walking with two of her siblings in the opening scene called "happiness".
OlafurArons That was your mother? That is amazing. I wish Chris Marker was still alive to know that it came full circle. What do you think of the film?
the kids look like my siblings and I, born at the time the film was made and a couple years after. I was just thinking to myself, those kids have their own children and are possibly grand parents by now.
This film is endless poetry about life, memory and time, captured in poetic images. This film is what Goddard dreamed of filming in his life but yet he could not achieve in this level of sincerity or purity. Chris Maker made a miracle. Sans Soleil is in my top 3 films ever made.
it's the simple pleasure of innocence if you asked me. You haven't asked me, but it's what I see there, the enjoyment of a moment together. Granted they are not squealing with pleasure, or jumping about, but it does seem a contemplative moment of happiness.
It's beauty n innocence I see, which makes me happy. It's lovely to share the sentiment from a simplistic scene, which fits universally. Forced to connect with a beautiful image or nothingness.
Just saw this film, it really blew me away. I think that i need to see it a few more times to understand it, it's just that potent and full of meaning and purpose. I think everyone who loves cinema should watch this film at least 3 times. I know i will.
Quite possibly the best opening to any film ever.
Quite possibly the best film ever
i agree with fried-egg-on-head chan.

What are the other 2 films in the top 3? I'm guessing one of them is The Mirror?
I've never been able to see happiness in those images. This clip always makes me so sad.
At least you can see the black.

A masterpiece.

黒画面で続くナレーション、無音映像のインサート、大きなタイトル文字…カッコよすぎる。
I need to watch this movie someday.
