At this point, you're not pretending to be a journalist. You're a legit freelancer with the methods of an internet troll, and it's absolutely glorious to see.
Gonzo Journalism at it finest
This is just what journalism actually is. Something that major media firms have failed to do for a long time is any kind of investigative journalism or ANYTHING other than clickbaity "This happened today, here's our Hot Takes (tm) on it." And that definition of "media firm" is ALL INCLUSIVE, so yes it means CNN and MSNBC but it also means Fox News and Newsweek and Breitbart. I trust foreign newspapers like BBC and Al Jazeera to be more objective and correct about reporting our country's news than I do our own news services.
The endless "talking heads" segments are a disgrace. I didn't always like her approach but RIP to Barbara Walters, one of the few journalists left with some integrity and an iron will. NPR on occasion does good work too but a lot of their focus nowadays is on cultural stuff, which is perfectly fine and I do enjoy some of their Tiny Desk Concerts, but it leaves a massive vacuum in terms of quality journalism.
I was about to come into the comments to make this *exact* comment
Yeah, how much journalism does one have to do to stop being a pretend journalist and start being a real journalist?
If you think this is being a journalist, then you're a moron and are okay with misinformation
Wow. It's funny when ur fake reporting is more real then the actual reporting. Keep fighting these guys
Exactly my thoughts I laughed and then cried a little inside
It's a pathetic place to be when "comedians" (forgive my term) are doing a better job than the press. Maybe Ben needs to get contracted from actual newspapers.
There's some solid reporting out there on labor news.
The court jester has always been the one to tell the truth to the king without losing his head...
@@mdj.6179 I think Ben would consider himself a real jester
You say impersonating a reporter, but you're doing the investigating journalism here.
Yeah, the only thing that separates him from real reporters are 1: Not attached to a company and 2: He's actually doing journalism work
@@spikem5950 Investigative Journalists are more often freelancers. They are sometimes hired by major news agencies to dig into incidents or mysteries but sometimes they would do so on their own and publish their findings under their own blogs or vlogs like the two journalists who investigated Watergate.
@@ShadowMoon878 Yeah, but this guy's not being hired by anyone, he's just straight up doing it haha.
@@ShadowMoon878 The two journalists who investigated Watergate were employees of a local paper called The Washington Post. Karl Bernstein & Bob Woodward. They are literally the opposite of freelancers.
And producing the actual report, published with a circulation of over half a million. That's more than many small-town newspapers.
If they don't want to be labeled kidnappers, they shouldn't ask for a raise. What's the matter with people these days?

The store manager did indeed say he was being kidnapped. It's in the public record. I read it.
I'm with you I definitely believe you that he said that. But would you be willing to link a source please that you found that in. For myself and others? Thanks!
I knew thst from her stupid description. There's no way an officer would have called it kidnapping. They would have called it f alse imprisonment if they called it anything at all until they determined if charges were filed..
The word "kidnapping" had to come from someone that doesn't know anything about what actions cause specific kinds of charges.
@@iampoppyseeds google it you lazy bitch.

I was a little worried that you didn't blink throughout the whole video. So I watched it again, my eyes not blinking, and noticed that you blinked 3 times. Good video, thank you for reporting on the Starbucks info.

Bro you are hands down one of the best lol you are on the verge of breaking through. Keep going!
One of the best, yes. Reminds me a bit of Ken M- google him. Hilarious.
I think the PR rep was trying to suggest that "kidnapping" is the LE/legal term for what happened, but couldn't say so outright because it's obviously untrue. The cops know it, the public knows it, and the workers know it. The jig is up.
I am pretty sure the legal term would be "false imprisonment" if you are unable to leave.
Based on what she said. The police just walked in and assumed it was a kidnapping.
Yeah, based on apparently zero people saying it was a kidnapping.
I am surprised that you didn't point out that even if that's not "their term" for what happened, it was still an "alleged" kidnapping, so for them to talk about "allegations", what else could they possibly mean?
Given the precedent set by the Daily Show, you may as well start a legit business for your comedic journalism. Have you registered the Coloradoan Times as a business entity yet?
No, because then he would have to have actual employees instead of whoever he makes up, I think.
@@Colin_Boecker-Griemeno it can be a LLC and just have himself as an employee and owner and all that jazz and later on if it gets bigger he can obviously hire more people. How do you think small businesses start lol
Well that would be difficult since it is the actual name of a newspaper
There would unfortunately be "higher" standards that would make it more difficult to operate like he does
The "hm hum" at the end loool
Tell me you’re passive aggressive without saying “I’m super passive aggressive” lol
I like he's fair and mentions twice they got paid while suspended and that they were at least reinstated.
And the whole time he uses a neutral voice, just states the facts, and never says Starbucks is bad and we ourselves can see how this situation looks bad just on the facts he says.
This channel deserves more subscribers.
The algorithm works eventually
The "hhmmhhh" at the end is so telling.
I think you should work as an investigative journalist. You have serious talent in exposing the truth, but making it absolutely hilarious.
I could see him being a guest on some more news from time to time. That would be fun.
Ben you're going to be so successful. You're brilliant and I see greatness in your future. You aren't just a troll either, you're doing good in this world. It brings me a lot of joy to watch your videos
Lol after 14 years. FINALLY!
That HR/Lawyer Rep is good at saying a lot of words that mean nothing and cast no blame at no-one ... she should run for office ;)
Remember, it's both trolling AND freelance investigative journalism
The Colorodoan Times is more real and straight forward than any news outlet I’ve ever seen.
This is legit real news with a comedic twist!!!!! Very refreshing
You can *feel* the lady on the call wanting to rip out her hair in frustration. Thank you for your service, professional misinformation spreader Ben 👍
this is like Joe Lycett. i only recently found out about him and I think the US should have someone like that who exposes bad business with humor and trolling
That was lovely you really twisted her in a knot as I was hoping you would. I think her actual head was spinning
The technology of interconnected instant video and the permanent recordings of events has outpaced the ability to lie for many entities.
Its insane that cops that murdered a unarmed child gets treated better them some employees asking for a raise or to join a union.
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."
Cops are the in-group. Almost all other workers are the out-group.
That came out of nowhere
@@alienvomitsex where is that from?
Okay, but did they get a raise?
Also, imagine you actually kidnapped your boss and got payed leave, while being under investigation.. xD
Yes they got a raise. They got a generous pay increase that covers 10 percent of the cost of living increase.
Gives off the same eneergy as "No, the store manager didn't say he was assaulted. He said he was attacked. Assault is a term that the police gave it but the manager said nothing like that. That is a law enforcement term"
Yeah, if you tell the police someone has you cornered and won’t let you leave the police are gonna think it’s Kidnapping
Words have consequences 🤗
I love the fake, forced, “Mmmhmmm!” at the end of the video! 🤣
that was the best
Used to work at Starbucks (near where this occurred), the manager definitely DID use the term kidnapping. Also, this is very much the experience of dealing with Starbucks corporate. They'll take any opportunity to throw their hourly workers under the bus and to keep from having to actually pay them (thus the unionization efforts), yet will bend over backwards to protect corporate and people who are salaried, even if it means outright lying.
tl;dr Support your local coffee store, not Starbucks.
So did they get that raise or what?
But did they get their raise? I'm left in suspense
i remember when i once asked for a raise, i got off with a night in jail and a 200$ fine, lucky me
Jordan Klepper vibes. Amazing bro.
Really trying to gaslight you into believing the store manager called the police and said "nothing is happening come quickly" and that the police, without jumping to conclusions very reasonably considered this a serious incident and sent officers.
Love your work Ben
Lol at this point you’re doing more journalism than most newspapers
It's nice that they got reinstated ... but did they get their raise?
Starbucks statement seems defamatory to the workers who asked for a raise. I hope they can sue to restore their good reputation.
Should have ended with: - Did they get their raise?
"She didn't call it a kidnapping; she described their actions in such a way that the only legal term that law enforcement could use in their report is 'kidnapping'."
You are a hero of the people. Thank you.
Oh, that actually makes sense to me, a guy living in a gas leak
I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a joking video or not but you asked some really damn good questions and I appreciate your efforts.
I was waiting for the “So did they get the raise they were asking for?” at the end 😂
It’s only a matter of time before the algorithm picks you up helllla hard. Keep going!!!!
That final “mm-hmm” was hilarious for some reason.
Brilliant. That lady had a loaded gun to her head and couldn’t have gotten out of that situation faster lol!
I had a freind that worked there once, he was fired. His name was Robert Paulson.
His name was robert paulson.
That's actually really kick ass reporting!
The "uh huh" wasn't convincing that she believes it's good.
Thanks for this video

You are the champion of righting wrongs!!!
This was a very confusing conversation lol good job
Ben I absolutely love how you’re taking this corporate boilerplate meaningless rhetoric and showing it for what it is.
That employee took 'gaslight gatekeeo girlboss' too seriously
This guy is a case of "I'm not the villian you were expecting".
You should add this to your phone calls playlist, this video is hilarious.

"We would not say a kidnapping happened, but something that law enforcement would call 'kidnapping' definitely did happen."
wow, this is one of the few times you sound more confused than the person on the other end.
Its a jumping to conclusion mat lol 😂 thank you
Should have asked if they got a raise at the end
Best report ever. Damn the Man
Not disciplined? Then reinstated? Doesn't that imply that they were at least suspended...if not terminated?
Isn't that discipline?
Dang that rep on the phone was trying so hard to protect that other manager who called 911... Really shows how terrible of a company they are lol
this is actual investigative journalism in prank form brilliant
Ooof that "mmmhmm" at the end was overly careful and SO insincere.
The last "...mhm" was gold.
This was amazing
Wow that's a King Karen move calling the police on your teenage employees for asking for a raise.
Do you ever wonder how broken our legal system is when you can just abuse it by dodging questions constantly?
Fucking brilliant work here.
Need more
this is why i would buy a coffee machine instead of going to starbucks
"That's a law enforcement term" lolol.
In order to have a term like kidnapping on a police report the person who called and made the report would have had to say kidnapping
Getting more answers then an actual reporter. Any legal team would LOVE to have that phone call recorded and under their save files.
yess dude keep it up!
Starbucks assigned this poor girl the task of diplomat. Definitely not a diplomat.
You should have asked if they got their raise.
"WE didnt say it was a kidnapping, the POLICE did!"
"So the police made it up?"
"Well, no...."
You’re a better journalist than most journalists 😂
She could have easily said that the company just didnt agree with the manager calling it a kidnapping. Why would that be so hard to do?
At the end, I was waiting for you to ask the obvious follow up question... "Did they get a raise?" :P
