I remember watching that movie with my wife a few years ago and it was surprisingly not so bad...
We love the Jules Verne novels and we've watched many movie adaptations which did justice to the books...
As long as you keep an open mind and you know it's a low budget "free-style" adaptation you'll have a good time watching that movie...
Who knows ? Maybe Jules Verne would have been amused by this version of his novel ?
Sorry, but that was an hour and half that I can never get back.
Jules Verne? No, some crazy scriptwriter who took a few parts of the book to create this monster.
One of those actors has had speaking roles in three movies that won the Oscar for best picture. Thats no joke. you can most likely guess which one even if you dont recognize them.
What a great movie. I kind of guessed about the monster guys but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I lived in the apartments that are directly behind the mansion which are cut out of the movie. There's a lot actually cut out of the movie and filmed it different angles. To avoid showing things. It was filmed in Gonzales, Louisiana.P.s. I lent captain Nemo a plunger.
Guess there are some things that can't be edited out. Hope he cleaned it off, before he gave it back.

It's difficult to mess up a Jules Verne storyline but these writers tried. Why on earth would anybody think the could re-write this story for the better?
Yeah, I'd just stick to the 1961 version or even the 90s series.
Was that part in the book? The part where they decided to pull the soldier in the balloon. That decision cost one of them their life.

I understand the desire to remake a movie from 60 years ago...but not to make it uncomfortably bad....i mean baaddddd.
Was this produced for the CW? It certainly has that feel stripping in two OMG sassy time travel girls from the present to replace the two ladies of the Spanish shipwreck...is definately a CW or Paramount+ move.
The original was probably the best Jules Verne adapted novel of the era for sheer entertainment and good photography with decent VFX.
Yep. The one made at Shepperton Studios UK back in the 60s was quite good. This one is rubbish.
Haha, who can forget Ray Harryhausen's fabulous work? I love Bubo from Clash of the Titans.

I just finished the book. It’s a great book. Is there a movie mostly like the book?
Ballon’s were commonly used for artillery spotters. A journalist would know that. So should the writer. You don’t “navigate” a ballon. It goes where the wind blows it. Also black yankee soldiers would have been treated harshly by the south.
What's a ballon? You need to do a lot more thinking before you render an opinion.

I don't know why Mr. Spillep the journalist had to exchanged for some dirty Reb soldier. I always found his one of the more cultured characters.😢
In the 1961 film, he survived the balloon ride and the Reb soldier was a more decent man (if a little too trigger-happy with the rifle). I still think that's the best version to date but it probably didn't carry well from the novel, where the real character development is.

I think the 90s series from New Zealand came close to getting it right. The first version I ever saw was the 1961 film as a kid. It still holds a special place in my heart and the characters were a bit more likable. Not saying all moviegoers liked it back then and I'm sure the ones familiar with the novel were still disappointed, but it was one I could watch over again :)

Whew. Couldn't finish. This is a very b version of the original story. They didn't have the resources to do it right. This is like a basement made movie.

This version is new to me. But it looks like one of the worst. So far not ONE of the versions is faithful to the original book, skipping the essence and only hits the highlights. Louisiana swamps look nothing like a south pacific island and yeah lets throw in the time machine from "The Final Countdown" as a joke...

Terrible rendition. Horrible ending.
They finally turn on the Time Machine to escape and we have no idea where they went in time.
The blinking star in the night sky leaves us to wonder if they went into outer space, returned the civil war, or to where the girls from 2012 came from.
The thing I did like is that they showed the scary creatures and their attacks in a non-gory way. They did a good job of hiding the fact that it was just Captain Nemo’s crew having went crazy and canibalistic.
Sorry for the spoilers. I’ve never ruined a movie for others like this before, but honestly 99% of you might thank me for saving you a couple of hours. It really is that bad.
If this was my first ever Jules Verne movie(story), I would have avoided him from now on. Luckily, I have seen better and read the books, so I was easily able to identify a “HIGH-SCHOOL LEVEL” production quality in this movie.
Don’t blame Jules Verne people.
At least RUclips has given us a “Don’t Recommend Channel” button. I’m about to go use it after I’m done warning the rest of you how bad this rendition is. Save you time and keep moving.
I can’t even say, “Give them the benefit of the doubt.” because I’m sure they screened this mess before publishing is. Sad. Just Sad.
