*Luca has learned over 11 languages.* Astonished by his achievements? Find out *how* and *why* he did it in this here: go.babbel.com/11cruciallessons/yt
Babbel The translation missed out when Luca said "suédois" (Swedish) when Matthew asked him, in French, which languages he speaks.
Erik Blomqvist We noticed that today too. You have a very keen eye!
Babbel since 1980 i try to learn languages but i can't . why? and what is the reason

This is fascinating, especially when they talk about how your personality can change slightly when you enter the "reality" of another language.
I currently speak 5 languages, and I've found this happens to me. Some of my other friends who are also polyglots have also noticed this. For example, in Spanish, I tend to be a more relaxed, cool, confident & happy version of myself, while in French I tend to act a little bit more reserved.
Loved this video!
This is so true, Those things happens to me, when I'm speaking another language
sometimes happens when you are more extroverted in some other languages re more soft tone in others. It happens to me when i speak english
What languages do you speak? I speak Portuguese and I'm learning English and French.
Kauan Kroun Personally I speak:
English, French, Spanish (fluent)
Mandarin (intermediate, my level is between an HSK 3 and 4 if you're familiar with the HSK tests)
Gujarati (intermediate, but I can't read or write)
You?
Azren the Language Nerd Wow, tu peux parler ces langues! I can read, write in English pretty well, but I can't speak it confidently.
Therefore,
Portuguese fluently (mother language)
French A1
English B2 ( Bc I can't speak it well)
I don't want to came off as a nosy person. May I ask what do you do for living? I've always wondered what people who know tons of language do as an occupation.
He speaks a perfect french. Without flaw, without accent.
+Doney Hon same goes for his german skills
TTMalte So he can collaborate easily! lol
also with Spanish 😲
He spoke spanish, french and english perfectly.
Konstantin Becker You learned French?
The moment when you are a native German but read the English subtitles for it
hahahahha
Their German... no accent.
its scary
German accent
Matthews german was near perfection damn
Mr Duke Silver That's so comforting to hear. I'm planning to learn German after American Sign Language, but I was demotivated by the people, because of how hard they say it is.
My Channel That's good to hear. Thanks man
2:15 as soon as he switched into Italian then we have the hand gestures haha so awesome.
that face when you know english, Spanish and french so you can be lazy and not read some subititles
I just know English and Spanish, mi francés apesta :(
también estoy aprendiendo francés y soy un asco (hablo inglés y español, y estoy aprendiendo italiano) where are you from??
Sophi XRU 'Merica
Und als sie Deutsch geredet haben?
Same here with spanish, english and german
0:55
Damn, his German is spot on! He really speaks like a native speaker. Find ich schon ziemlich beeindruckend ;D
Ich hätte schwören können er ist deutscher. Ich dachte mir schon "Wow ist der Faul in seine Muttersprache zu wechseln." Der Typ ist ja unfassbar gut
this is a really good commercial for duolingo!
+Adriano Losurdo hahaha why do you say that?
lmaoooo
Adriano Losurdo which is bullshit cause those polyglots would laugh at it I'm telling you never ever would they really use an app like that :D
Interesting. I learned Spanish in class, in Sweden but have forgotten much. anyway the experience of learning and understanding a new language is as they say - enriching and rewarding I think. It's fun! I want to learn Russian.
I'm learning Swedish, it's fun as well
チルノ it is?
チルノ I speak Arabic, but I never thought it would be useful in Sweden.
4:05 Our ginger beard friend does a very funny Liverpool (a city in England) accent lol. Thats how they speak. These guys are definitely motivating me to learn a new language or two! I like how they not only learn the language but also learn about the actual people and the etiquettes and customs when interacting and speaking. Very insightful and interesting. Thanks for the upload Babbel. And please invite these two guys over again for tons of croissants and tea :)
i loved it, but i hate to need to read subtitles and then dejarlos de necesitar , i found it kinda annoying, ma è stranno perchè io faccio lo stesso con i miei amici che parlano inglese e spagnolo, era extraño estar escuchando español y después que cambien a alemán y de repente necesitar subtítulos, and then again in english
I understood the English and Spanish bits and could barely make out the Italian bits with the help of Spanish. haha I love languages! I wish I had the time and patience to learn more than just English and Spanish. :/
@@googleaccount93 jaja je vais dire lo mismo porque a mi fue molto incredibile leggendo both of your comments , das ist sehr schön 😊 ça me fait bcp plaisair saber que hay otras personas che amano imparare altre lingue, you know that the world is still fine, ich habe nichts andres zu sagen ،مع السلامة
¡Su español es jodidamente bueno!
His American accent is amazing! I love these little clips, they make my day better
It is so true. I am a polyglot and when I switch to different languages, I also feel like I am presenting another personality. It is so entertaining and fascinating. You feel like different people all stemming from the same core within you. I would go as far as to say it is feels like a superpower.
At the moment i know only 5 languages -> Friulian ("la lenghe de me patrie, une vore dongje al francês" - my homeland language, really near to french), italiano (studiato a scuola), of course i know english even if personally i don't like it (not funny language), im Uni lerne ich deutsch und russisch, они действительно красивые! Languages i'll study in future are arab, portuguese, modern greek, hungarian, and maybe others :D
+Wise Liar maybe they meant "not fun" because it's hard. I heard somewhere that if you're not native or grew up learning it it's one of the hardest languages to learn. (i'm not gonna include Chinese written language in that lol)
Hei, i didn't say it's hard, i said not fun. I mean, i don't think that english is a language versatile and has a funny-construction of the senctences. Personally i prefer a declination-language, that's why i study german and russian. Understood?
***** yep!
***** Wait... how is it an insult to American culture? The only thing I can think of is that people in the UK pronounce most words how they're spelled, like "been" or "aluminium." And that language changes and it isn't necessarily wrong if it's pronounced in a different way than it originally was, so that could manifest as insulting American English, I guess...
***** I have heard really good reasons for not liking the U.S., though. It's basically mostly right-winged U.S. that they're talking about when they criticize it. But basically I was told in school that the U.S. was the greatest country and that we were top in everything and that everyone else who is successful is copying us or trying to be like us. But I learn later that not everyone looks up to us like we're some kind of shining beacon of success or moral knights for everyone ("giving people democracy"). And I think because of those things we've been taught, we tend to have an arrogant way of viewing ourselves as Americans and see other countries as not quite up to par, even if we don't admit it. And that seems borderline nationalistic to me.
holy fuck!!!! is that you Luca?? We met in sweden in 2005 in Stockholm... i can't believe it.. hahaha..omg..
6 years later and I still return to this for inspiration.
I love these guys. I could listen to them for hours. Thanks for inspiring us!! :)
I aspire to speak foreign languages like Luca, no accent when speaking the language; I feel like that makes you as close as possible to being native-level
I appreciate you both. Now I speak with 4 languages, 2 from Indonesia, 1 english, and 1 hongkong Chinese. Then I just learn german, Spanish, Italian, and French. I learn it by myself, nobody help me. But today I have a lesson from you how to learnt, I wish I could be better than now. Thanks for the lessons you both. Liebe dich 💋.
Aaaah quanto mi ritrovo in questa situazione e in queste riflessioni. Sono italofona ma adoro studiare le lingue. J'habites à Fribourg, eine Stadt in der Schweiz, where people speak French and a Swiss German dialect. Il s'agit donc d'une ville bilingue. Il mio ragazzo è svizzero tedesco e ha imparato il francese con me. Donc nous nous parlons tjr en français, even if it is not our native language. Le nostre conversazioni sono identiche a come scrivo e come è mostrato nel video. Ce qui est beau dans l'apprentissage des langues consists in the fact that every language has its expressions that fits perfectly and you can't translate them. 私は少し日本語お話ます (住みません、 I can't find how to write ほ in this sentence correctly). Also, die Sprache sind sehr lustig und Interessant. Viel Spass und Viel Glück, Leute! Liebe Grüsse from Switzerland :)
Luca is an outstanding polyglot !!!! he sounds like a native in spanish & french i heard him speak portugese on other videos & sounds native too what & inspiration for other language lovers!!!
Notice he didn't switch to Chinese, Japanese or Russian, which would have been slightly more impressive...
+KidMillions He didn't because Matthew doesn't speak either of those languages.
Luca has the most perfect pronunciation out of all the polyglots I've heard. Although I just speak 3 languages, a sliver of what he can, but so far he speak it well.
I know no one is reading these comments but the reason Luca got recognized as not British is because his accent started Irish, melted into Australian, and then jumped to received pronunciation.
is this a conversation or actually just two guitar solos?
HOLY DAMN HIS SPANISH IS 100 out of 100 I'm impressed I thought that it was impossible to speak a foreign language without acceeent 🤯
here I am speaking Chinese and English at home at the same time in the same sentence
+ConWolf Me and Swedish have the same thing going on. o-o
+La Nausée Wow o-o I dont know anyone in person who speaks Svenska, so people are like, "wat."
I am salvadoran, I speak Spanish and I like a lot to learn other languages; I have learnt English and Portuguese and now I am learning Italian and I hope to learn French next year. Knowing other languages turns you in a person with different personalities.
**Discuss how much your personality changes when you speak a foreign language** **Proceeds to exclusively speak in Romance/Germanic languages that are structurally similar in grammar, syntax, and vocabulary**
Try this with a language drastically different from your native one, and you'll see different results. I act/express myself differently in Mandarin because it's fundamentally different from English. It's not some persona that one can just slap on for fun.
Luca is awesome! I'm glad you guys invited him!
Wow, No soy la única. I do this mientras estoy manejando mi car. Pero solamente hablo el castellano y el ingles and a few phrases in deutch. Но я толька изучаю русский язык в университете! But sí sí sí sí, it is SOOO great to learn other languages... So useful and such a blessing just to be able to communicate with people from so many different cultures and backgrounds!!
His German is perfect!
Luca's languages are spoken so perfectly it makes no sense.
it is so funny that they have close to no foreign accent when speaking german, the only thing that gives it away is that it is to clear/crisp. "natural" german is a little bit more mumbled. perhaps people in hannover speak very clearly but the regular german speaks a bit faster and mumbles just a little bit. foreigners just tend to say every word. for example, weird example but it fits very well. imagine somebody in a thinking process saying: hmmm i dont know how to put it/ i can not conform that (it is not the exact translation, just similar to the german meaning of the upcomming phrase). in german: hmmm kann ich so nicht sagen. would be in spoken german: kanich sonich sagn... certain words amalgamate somehow.
What do they do for a living?
1:23 wirklich wahr!
Man verhält sich in der Sprache in der man spricht, vorausgesetzt man spricht die Sprache auch gut.
Cool, really cool, I agree with the theory of personality... le problème c'est que j'habite en France depuis 4 ans y j'ai du mal encore à m'habituer. Anche se sono italiano 100 % e mia moglie è Inglese...
y me gusta mucho hablar espagnol gracias a mi trabajo, de hecho conocí mi mujer en Madrid donde hicimos un año de Erasmus...
Each culture has its sociology, therefore, each language is like a different person of the person.
is this just a way to advertise the website?
yep, and guess what, it works.
In fact, wrong title. Even because of the focus of discussion. Again: language speakers DO NOT switch their personalities
Somebody explain to me what's the point of adopting an accent, like the British one, if you don't live there ( and you're not an actor or something similar)
This dude is awesome. I thought i was pretty good with my 4 languages but 11 shiit that's crazy. i would like to hear him speak Portuguese to see how good his accent is
great video, but why is the portuguese language flag in the end from Brazil? shouldn't it be from Portugal?
and yet the english language flag is from the UK, and there are more americans than british people, so by your logic it should be the USA flag?
maybe because they're are teaching Brazilian Portuguese
I guess the Brazilian flag is recognised better than the Portuguese one. And, (sadly) Portugal is like the shadow of Spain
coz portuguese from brazil is better than portuguese from portugal and much more beautiful. (everyone says that).
Argus Vezzini in my opinion Portuguese from Brazil sounds like you're trying to speak Spanish with food in your mouth
Stellar video, guys. I currently speak English, Spanish and French. I would like to add German in the near future. You both give me a high bar to shoot for. Buenisimo!
so far im sitting at 2 languages - italian and english - currently studying japanese! gl learning new languages ppl =)
Dios mio estos tipos estan locos !!!! Que impresión verlos hablar tantas lenguas asi con esa facilidad
those are beautiful languages, I don't know what to learn first...
Switching Languages, Accents And Personalities | Babbel Voices
Son 11... pero hasta aquí lo que muestran es lo mismo que yo sé, podría haber mantenido esa conversación con ellos perfectamente además dudo sobre el nivel...
The only error I was able to detect whilst speaking Spanish was the part when he says "aquí llegando EN Berlín". The correct way of saying it is "Aquí llegando A Berlín".
I would totally be fluent in French already, but the thing is, I have to take time.. To translate the sentence before it comes out of my mouth. Being fluent is already thinking and saying at the same time... So I'm working on instantaneous speech.
Besides showing off, is there a reason you constantly change which language you're speaking in?
There should be English all over world for working.living etc etc and people who wanna speak their own language let them, i think its just much easier for everyone
fantastico...i do the same but not yet in so many languages, only 4...
I am bilingual and it takes me at least a second to switch languages, I cant just switch like they are doing in this video.
I agree that you are a slightly different person while speaking another language though.
Luca speaks Swedish too. He forgot to mention that :)
He actually mentioned it ("Suedois"). But it was omitted in the subtitles...
He speaks 11 languages seemingly flawless.
Yet he mispronounced the word 'idea'. 4:10
I'm just pointing it out. I would love to have a mental skillset like this.
I wish I could reach that one they!!! I´m spanish native speaker from Uruguay and I think it´s quite hard to get that level but not impossible... I´ve learn also portuguese (I´ve never studied, only talking with people),obviously english, and now german :)
guys, i just want you to know that Portuguese comes from Portugal, not from Brazil... I think you should adapt the brazilian flag lol this is almost insulting
They know. If a person goes through the trouble of learning a language they will know where it is from
come on babbel, change the flag just because mmanuoutali doesn't like it
How do they manage not to have an accent. Their German is fantastic. I grew up in Germany while being born in Poland and learning english on the way I ended up having a foreign accent in each language. How do they control that?
+JU MO WA Listen to a lot of native speakers speak, i preferably download books in that specific language & listen, i kind of train my accent by repeating the words as i listen, weird but it works for me. :)
U guys r awesome👍🏻 speak in different languages is a big gift
Terrific. Very inspiring.
Very interesting, I recognize myself in a lot of the things they say (I use three languages, soon four, on the regular degular).
If you're really good with numbers, trading, accounting, financials etc... don't expect to ever speak another language this fluently. And vise versa. You tend to be good at one or the other.
Sorry man but that's not true, i'm a software engineer and game maker, I deal with a lot of maths and algorithms but I love learning languages and I can speak Japanese pretty fluently, Korean decent, Spanish also decent. Don't have a video to showcase or anything to prove it but my point stands, if you want to learn languages, there's no secret or some kind of predisposition to be good or bad. Just start studying from the basics, move on and start practicing, eventually you'll speak just fine.
Forgive me if im wrong but, this guys claims to speak a shit load of languages (including mine which isnt easy to learn at all), but he just speaks 3 langues in the video.... Am I wrong in this or am I missing something?
Mathews German is just perfect!
When do you consider that you "speak" a language? Because there are always some subtilities left that you can learn. I wonder from which point we can say that we "speak" a language.
Anyway, I wanted to hear all of those he says he can speak. Where is Japanese and Chinese for instance?
In the meantime, those European languages they spoke right there with a relatively silent accent were pretty good, I'm impressed.
3000 Words. As this is the average words for an average person to speak a language. .
Otis Carr
Interesting fact. Didn't know that.
*****
Why is that? I like his 3000 words thingy he said, seems fair.
I don't believe that just by being able to have a casual conversation about easy subjects you can really say you "speak" a language. Although it requires more than just words, of course.
I would say you can speak a language when you can understand and be understood, in speaking, reading, writing and listening, with only mild grammar errors. As for words and nuances there will always be room to learn. Even in a native language.
Terra Nort honestly to be fluent is when you think in that language. So if you stub your toe whilst speaking the language, and said language comes out, thats when you know.
yes nice but how come did he only use english, italian, german, french and spansh out of all the 11 languages he could speak?
he demonstraded it in another clip. also, his conversation partner has to know all those languages + speaking doesn't really mean speaking fluently ;-)
+Dule Savic speaking doesnt mean speaking fluently? in that case I can speak 8 languages...only 3 of them fluently lol
+Bashir Adan 2z
***** I'm glad that you can, I speak a little bit of German, and far better Russian, although I still wouldn't dare to say I speak it fluently, it's getting better :-)
Dule Savic Cool, now that I think about it I probably speak no languages fluently, but i'm pretty damn good with somali, english and danish. If I were to add one more language it would be spanish. I already speak a little bit spanish, but I wanna be able to actually have a full conversation in spanish. Always liked how spanish sounds. 5th language to master would be french, but I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future.
His spanish accent is amazing!
MY HEART HAS BEEN BROKEN, No Portuguese? Por que não falaram português? sei que sabem.
J'adore ! I love this video ... bravo Luca, especially for the English accent. And I totally agree that you change your personality slightly as you change language. Sprachen wechlsen ist Spass 😀
I learnt a bit of Polish and find the same issue you had when hearing Portuguese and Russian (I can understand a bit of Portuguese through French).
their accents are perfect
I watch a lot of videos where people pretend to know several languages but they speak English 95% of the time so you don't know if they're actually polyglots. And even with real polyglots like here, they speak English most of the time. Why?
Why can't I give the thumbs up to this vid more than once???!!! Ihr seid eigentlich Prima, Leute!!! Sigam a fazer um trabalho. Saludos desde Bolivia!!!
So... where is Luca from originally?
The Reaper Thanks!
And no, in fact I couldn't... Italian descendants and names are all over the world!
Hey guys! I have noticed that my voice changes when I speak a different language. It gets a higher or a lower pitch. Do you know if there is a reason for that? Does that happen to you too? I kinda noticed that every time you switch from one language to the other. I would love to know what you think about all this. Thank you!
they are really Good....
Im trying to pinpoint luca's american accent. It sounds somewhat canadian to me, but if he says he's american i'd have to guess either new england or alaska
he's from rome. his english tutor was an american girl but he's never been in the US.
@Babbel you've the wrong flag in the Portuguese, Portuguese is from Portugal not from Brasil -_-
So... Could you enlighten us by saying what language people speak in Brazil? Cause you seem like a bright ass person...
No no no how are they doing that?! I'm bilingual and trip over words and my Spanish accent sometimes comes out when I'm speaking English. 😦😭 I wanna be like them...so suave in switching over from language to language
Amazing...!!! on my way!!!
his german is outstanding
Even though I am a native English speaker I have a problem sometimes where I'll retain a Spanish or Italian accent even when I'm speaking English. It usually happens when I've been practicing all day. People will be ask me if I'm Spanish or Italian and I'm just like "shit. I was doing it again, wasn't I?" lol
i am thom, from vietnam.i want to improve my english. yo can help me??
my facebook: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010441954022
What about Russian and Polish???? Why he didnt prove his knowledge????
Great!
Your Italian is good! Actually better than how most italians speak it.
我很想看看那个老外说点中文。Does any1 know a video where Luca spoke Chinese?
Why is the video so short ;(?
Good.
Why they didn't even touch the food??
I dare them to speak Swahili, Chinese, Hausa, Japanese, Indonesian, Hindi or Urdu
i am so jealous. this is one of my dreams! to become multilingual. people always say that i can learn languages quickly, but my problem is retaining them.
@nicci pooh you can become a polyglot if that's what you really want i don't know about yor schedule during the day every one in this world has to work in order to survive, but i tell you what you can do if english is your native tongue the next one to consider is spanish because to begincwith it is the easiest language to learn ,it is 100% percent Phonetic ,unless you have a particular language in mind that you really, really like to learn first ;motivation ,discipline,&the most important one is INTERACTION because that is going to be the key for any one to start speaking any target language. Dont worry if you make mistakes anyone that learns a language MakesThem. now if you want to retain words writte them on paper stickers & glue them on the wall in your bedroom, get vocabulary cue cards bring down language applications like duolingo is a free app &is a good tool to start learning a language then there is babbel which forba reasonable amount like 9.99 dollars teaches beginners ,intermediate levels there are others like pimsleur which i found very good, but expensive.you can do !! do not procrastinate a dream that you want to do just do it it's better to try than wonder if you could 've done it???????
Why is there a Brazil flag under "Portuguese"? Why don't you put a new zealand flag under "english"? or a colombian flag in "spanish"? or an austrian flag in "german"? Ridiculous...
+RuiP07 IKR
I'm sorry, but Portugal is insignificant. Who the hell learns Portuguese from Portugal?? Everyone wants to learn Brazilian Portuguese, that's why there's a Brazilian flag under Portuguese. Beijinhos!
for the simple reason its called PORTUGuese? anyway sure i wouldnt mind the brazilian flag if they at least stated that it stands for brazilian portuguese as I've seen in many websites where you can change the language to PT-BR.. but at least in those cases they SAY its BR instead of just not considering portugal at all
loli Drocax
But we also speak PORTUGUESE. It is our national language too. We represent the Portuguese language as much as Portugal...so our flag is equivalent, just like most of the time you will see an American flag representing the English language instead of a Brittish one.
+Juniorfoxnetdude do not be a total moron. Portugal is not insignificant.
Portuguese spoken in Brazil and Portugal are not the same, as British English and US English is not the same.
This guy may speak spanish, english, french, german and italian. But not any other language, just because i didn't see him speaking for instance japanese.
Matthew(the other) doesn't speak the other languages Luca speaks,so if he started speaking Japanese he wouldn't have been understood by Matthew.
Some people say they speak a language and they don't even have an A1 level. That's not speaking a language. For example, I studied 1 year french => I can say I speak french, NO. You speak a language when you don't care using it or your mother tongue.
jordi terrats molina
I get your point, there are other videos of Luca speaking languages, you can check them out. I think his level is pretty good in the other languages as well.
The guy is impressive.
Amazing! J'adore, bom trabalho!
