+Dariusz Wójcik Bo Ty zawsze robisz wszystko z największym zaangażowaniem i z całym Twoim sercem. Ale chyba nie słyszałam tego utworu w Twoim wykonaniu jeszcze. :)
@lonia200 You are right!! I don't see the point of making that festival... For whom? For jewish people who left Poland in 1968-69? ( like myself) This is very phony and not realistic. I live in Israel and USA where I am 100% Jew, not just for 7 days in Poland-Warsow
I'm aware that there were collaborators but It's still sad to me that Poland is accused of the worst evil for years and there is almost no critic of countries that were really supporting nazi Germany ;(
Dla większości nie, ale ponieważ musimy płacić 40% swojego dochodu na podatki dla klasy politycznej, to każdy stara się zarobić jak najwiecej, żeby mu jeszcze wystarczyło na życie. Ceny jak pojebane skaczą.
I don't think it's nice thing o say @almoni33 Even though everybody thinks that we're kind of antisemistic country that's not true. Lots of people were shocked after '68 when the huge part of Polish Jews leaved Poland because of politics but there was not much we could do with this (or maybe you expect someone fighting with belts and fists against the soviets? Good luck with that). Lots of people loose their friends, loves, great neighbors then and there are lots of people who miss the whole culture which dissapeared in just few days from here. Now when you walk down the street in old Jewish Districts in Warsaw you can feel that there's something missing and those blocks of flats are so boring and grey that it really pains. Sorry for my english - I'm trying to learn it but it's not going as fast as I wish ;)
Your English is good enough. But I wonder if a lot of your people were sad and shocked where they killed and burn hundreds and thousands of Jews, their neighbours and "friends" and ransacked and stole their property. True, there were some (very, very few) who saved a very, very few Jews. No wonder that those who somehow survived left as soon as they can. It was not because of the politics and I assure you, that they are happy to be where they are. Who knows when the next pogrom will come? Do not blame Jews, look at your own tribe.
@jaskoiwanowski Wiesz co to jest jak Żyd nie ma argumentów, to wtedy jest antysemityzm. I Twój przykład pokazuje, że jak nie wiesz co napisać to mnie nazywasz antysemitą. Wyjątkowo obrzydliwe zachowanie niewiadomo kogo i niewiadomo skąd.
As for the years before WWII, it was in my opinion nationalism. Those Poles felt threatened by the Nazis and the Soviets, and in addition have to deal with almost three million Jews, which accounted for 10.5% of the total population Polish state. Of this number, 8% were the followers of Judaism, and others were atheists. Then in Europe, it was a nationalistic state the basis for doctrine. And Jews were stateless. In my opinion this state of affairs caused nationalist behavior.
more people collaborated with Germans than... where. How would you assess the range of collaboration in Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Austria, Hungary (the last is complexed example) not mentioning Germany. Maybe more people stood passive when they should have do sth. but I am sure that you also know that Poland was the only country where helping Jewish was punished by death not only of you but your family and sometimes even neighbors. That was for some reason...
Communists are degenerates by definition. Most Jews in Poland were not communists, although most communists were Jews... it isn't the same, if you can read the difference. Antisemitism was the backbone of Polish nationalism before ww2. Plz read history. The "Endecja", the big boycot on Jews in Poland in 1937 , the common slogan of the popular daily newspaper "Polskie Slowo" - "Bij Zyda i ratoj Polske".. my parents lived then in Poland, so don't say that there was no antisemitism there...
You sound so incensed. It's not a secret :-). In Jewish tradition women aren't allowed to dance with men. In fact, during wedding men and women sit separately. A Jew is forbidden to touch any other woman but his own wife, just as a woman is forbidden to be touched by any strange man, as in dancing it may happen accidentally. Only in a musical they make this allowance and nobody cares :-). But of course it didn't happen this way in Sholom Aleichem times (the times he describes in the story, on which the musical is based).
Alla Axelrod Ala, I don;t know where you grew up but I grew up in Poland with Kantor grandfather and playing in a Jewish Theater myself and we always danced in our JCC together at all events. In all Jewish Theater plays in a theater which I have watched for many years (with Ida Kaminska) Jews danced together on the stage... don't put all Jews in one basket... majority of Jews in Israel and other countries are secular. To many of us being Jewish is about birth right and traditions, not strict religious laws. Being Jewish is who we feel in our hearts and not who we can touch.
I merely said what it's supposed to be according to Jewish laws. Of course secular Jews don't abide by laws. I am, for instance, an atheist and follow any traditions. It doesn't mean I don't have to know about them. But I simply made a note that the musical doesn't follow the correct interpretation of the time rituals. I didn't mean to start the religious or political discussion. And if you ARE indeed Jewish, you should at least make it your business to learn everything there is to know about Jewish traditions, non-withstanding what you yourself follow. Without knowledge Jew will be destroyed, as they already were threatened many times (especially in Poland). You don't have to follow, but you have to KNOW. There is a difference. Just as a note, I myself music directed Fiddler about 6 times and know the show like the back of my hand. :-). I am glad they do it all over the world now, including in once anti-semitic Poland, and even China and Japan. It's very funny to see and hear Tevie singing "If I were a rich man" in Mandarin :-).

Girls dancing with men -- isn't it forbidden? LOL
+Alla Axelrod Forbidden????? Where did you get this information?
You sound so incensed. It's not a secret :-). In Jewish tradition women aren't allowed to dance with men. In fact, during wedding men and women sit separately. To many of us being Jewish is about birth right and traditions, not strict religious laws. Being Jewish is who we feel in our hearts and not who we can touch.
And one of the boys dancing with us was a producer of this show (which I happened to attend) and actor of this theater, a friend from childhood.
I merely said what it's supposed to be according to Jewish laws. Of course secular Jews don't abide by laws. I am, for instance, an atheist and follow any traditions.
