For the few people that want to play around with photos with mario but don't have the ar cards and don't want to buy them you can look up a picture of the ar card and it will actually register them as the actual card.

I loved streetpass. I used to carry my 3ds in my backpack in college and would get the same passes each week on specific days from others doing the same thing. Plus, bringing it to events and vacations was always fun!
Loved it too! I also collected people from all over the world when I brought the 3DS along for long distance travels, it was exciting to see the country maps fill up. It's sad how Nintendo got rid of the fun gimmicks completely with the Switch.
I know that many won't miss it that much, but damn... I still remember when I was at work and my brother sent me a message on my phone saying that they finally delivered the Wii U to my house, I've never run so fast in my entire life. I got home all excited wanting to play Mario Kart 8 as soon as possible, I put the Wii U on and it was an explosion of joy, I spent hours on Miiverse looking at other people's posts, downloading demos from the eShop and playing Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8, I have so many great memories with the Wii U, I still have it here with me next to my Switch and will probably never get rid of it. As much as the WIi U was a failure, it is one of the consoles I love the most, it will always be amazing to me, it was the first console I bought with my own money, it was the first console I followed from beginning to end, it was the first console I was able to play on day one of launch and it was the console that gave me amazing experiences like Breath of the Wild. May he never be forgotten.
Thank you for your comment. Reading this brought a rush of memories of when I was 15 years old. The first brand new console I bought with my own money was a Nintendo GameCube. I picked up Luigi’s mansion, Star Wars rouge squadron 2 and James Bond agent under fire with a black GameCube. Such an amazing feeling to buy a console on your own for the first time, you truly enjoy the games even more knowing your hard earned money went to such a great thing. Growing up I’ve always played Nintendo and I’m sad the Wii U’s era is finally coming to an end but I plan on browsing the e-shop today before they close it for good. I’m gonna pick up some more games so I can enjoy the Wii U for years to come. 😄
I was completely oblivious to this whole situation. My Wii U has been in a closet for years but I just played Metroid Prime Remaster on the Switch and was wanting to play more Metoid and discovered that most of the games could be played on the Wii U, then I found out it was just weeks before the eshop closed good. I checked my old wish list and grabbed everything I handed bought. I've been playing the Wii U more than my PS5 in the last week. It's such a bizare thing this console missfired so badly, it really is still a quality system.
Going back to the 3DS, seeing street pass, the badge arcade, the download animation, and some of the very hardcore or family friendly (but still great) Nintendo games makes me wish the switch had a little bit of this Nintendo quirkiness
Crazy, I haven’t downloaded anything on the 3DS in years and now I’m buying a bunch of games lol. Definitely getting all those capcom games they’re basically a steal.
Don't forget about the 3D Classics series (especially Kirby's Adventure.) It plays even better than the original version with no slowdown and the 3D effect looks really cool.
This really does feel like… way too early for this to happen. It sucks. I get that they can’t keep it around forever, but there were first-party 3DS games that came out in 2019. It just seems like these consoles haven’t been dead long enough to shut everything down.
I completely agree. They kept the WiiShop online for 6 or 7 Years after the Wii was discontinued, yet the 3DS/Wii U eShops are being put out to pasture only 3 years after discontinuation.
I agree, I've seen some of the titles that were added as late as 2019 in the store as I've been deciding what to last minute buy and it just makes me feel like it was too soon, I mean I know the 3ds has been out for a while but if games and dlc were still being added to the store then they should have given it at least 5 years from the last added game before shut down. I'm really sad that due to my financial situation I won't be able to get as much of the download only stuff as I'd like because of the store closing in the next day.
There’s a prequel-demo of sorts for Bravely Second. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it takes place before the game itself and has a self contained story. Haven’t played it yet, but I believe it’s free and totally exclusive to the eshop.
I think you might still be able to download free apps, just like those you've already paid for. Anyway, even if that's not the case, you will still be able to "pirate" the free demo after homebrewing.
@Leon Hmmm, yes free apps will be available I believe but maybe only the special demos or maybe not even that. It's good to get them if you have space for good measure I think and if they are linked to your nintendo network ID then they should be redownloadable.
This has been such a strange week. I haven't played on my 3DS or Wii U since around 2017, and I never got a Switch -- I kind of moved on from gaming. But I knew the eShops were closing, and so I've dived back in to the community for the first time in years. It's been really great to see and hear from all those RUclipsrs and bloggers whom I watched for hours and hours. I've just downloaded some freebie themes and looking at whether I want to get some dlc. It looks like the Badge Arcade has already taken away the free plays, but I got about a fortnight's worth of new badges. After this weekend it really will be over, and I'll probably leave gaming again. But it was good to be part of this world again for just a few weeks. Take care everyone.
I just bought a Wii U last year, so I know I've missed a lot while I am still trying to cram years of games, and decades of virtual console games, into my limited play time, but Affordable Space Adventure is the game that has so far had the best Wii U gamepad implementation. I played the game solo, and absolutely loved it, and I've heard the 3 person coop is even better than solo play, if that's an avenue you have available. Also, thank you for videos like this helping me make sure I don't miss things in the mad scramble at the end here.
Really sucks to see the eshops close and see a lot of these games get lost. But lucky i did pick up a lot of these games throughout the years on both my 3ds and wiiu. Still need to grab a few especially the digital only ones like style savvy styling star. Never thought i would be into these type of games but i took a chance on trendsetters and got hooked.
Wish I worked on this sooner by buying stuff earlier but at the same time I became very limited by 32gb memory which is the recommended max for the 3ds
I wish I'd had more time to buy stuff for my 3ds, I was a kid when it came out so could only get what my parents were willing to buy me. When I eventually got my own income through a job I had other money concerns then the luxury that was the 3ds. It makes me extremely sad that I'm now going to lose the opportunity to buy all the unique games on the 3ds (I know some will still be available by game card but I'm talking estore only stuff and DLC) because of my financial situation.
Hey, Zeon. Just FYI: In Fire Emblem Fates to get the Revelations dlc, the only prerequisite is to already have both Conquest/Birthright beforehand. You don't need to have played the game at all. Make sure the game is patched to the final ver. This is what I did some time ago when they announced the eshop closure.
@Ioannis You're right. You can get it now having only one. Though, it is advisable as it is meant to be played after finishing both conquest and birthright beforehand.
It's the sad reality that even the update servers will eventually be taken down is what does it for me. Especially when so many games get pushed out half baked and need multiple updates just to iron out all the kinks. Thankfully the modding community has it covered.
Wow, seeing all these Eshop recommendations videos are really bringing back the nostalgia. Looking back over the decade, life seemed so much simpler then. FOMO bought all the Pokémon virtual console games. Even though 3DS wasn't as utilized as much as I would have liked being busy adulting and such, I still have a lot of good memories with this system and the Wii U. Ended up getting 3DS initially for Pokémon X and Y. All my friends got back into Pokémon with that title, and we would get together with our 3DS and play together. Played Smash on 3DS until it was released on Wii U, then pretty much forgot about the 3DS version. Wii U was basically just a Smash and Splatoon machine for me. Completely forgot about street pass until I recently checked it. Had a couple occurrences that I don't remember at all but were probably from the only occasions when I did use 3DS public, which was waiting out in lines hours early during Amiibo hunts while that was still a craze. How things have changed over the years.
You need to format it as fat32 with a special tool to use micro sds bigger than 32GB, I use a 128GB one and it works well, I do get longer boot up times but the in game performance is the same
I actually tried to switch from a 64gb to 128b micro sd card but for some reason the data wouldn't move and as a result I ended up transferring the data from my 32gb micro sd card to the 128 card which meant I had to redownload everything else that wasn't on the 32gb card but was on the 64gb card. In fact I have to now go through every game to make sure to download all the dlc now, again!
When you format it to fat32, choose the largest allocation size and it will boot up quicker. My original sd card booted my 2DS XL up in 6 secs. When I put my new sd card in that is set to the largest allocation size available it is 8.5 secs, so not a big deal. If you have a smaller allocation size set it can take a lot longer to boot up. I think the extra 2.5 seconds was worth going from 4 gb to 128 gb.
@@GenerationZ313 FYI, the card has to be empty when you copy the data. (Specifically, if there's a pre-existing "Nintendo 3DS" folder, that will cause problems.)
About the SD card size All you need to do is with a pc to format the SD card that is more than 32GB to the format called fat32 and you can use bigger size cards
There’s a big problem with Pokémon Bank becoming free and that is that it’s gonna be after the eshop shutdown. You need to have had a subscription at some point to be able to download poke transporter which is needed for transfer from gens 1-5 to bank. So if you haven’t gotten it until the eshop shutdown too bad you can’t transfer
It *is* worth noting, but it'll also affect basically nobody. Anybody who's made use of Bank over the years will necessarily have acquired Transporter already, and anyone who hasn't apparently never needed it.
It will affect people who get into the series after the shutdown and want to play the older games or people who start shiny hunting in the near future and notice that they „cant“ hunt specific pokemons because they will never be able to transfer them to home. VC Celebi will get really rare by then.
True, but it isn’t the end of the world. GBA to DS is all available without Bank, so you can still do the first five regions in a row if you get the games. XY and ORAS have all the Pokémon except event mons and can trade between each other offline. That said, if you have a particular mon you want to keep for sentimental reasons, now’s the time to transfer up to Home.
if you’re reading this, PLEASE get all the monster hunter games on 3ds, you will not regret it for 3 bucks. if i had to pick just one, monster hunter 4 ultimate would be my choice. favorite game of all time!!

The things that im most worried about when the 3ds and Wiiu eshop well be closed are the Smash bros dlc,they were like a huge part of the serie's history and now that there are going away forever it hurts
I just want to shout out the Style Savvy trilogy. Specifically Styling Star. People who enjoy life sim and customization elements like in Animal Crossing could find a lot to enjoy here. Styling Star is ONLY available digitally in US. Once the eShop closes, it's gone forever
I totally forgot about all the DLC to Streetpass and when you mentioned it I immediately opened up my 3ds and made what’s probably the most impulse buy of my life
I can tell you from personal experience having already modded my systems that navigating all the homebrew/debug menus, keeping track of firmware updates and exploits being patched out, potentially crashing/bricking my system and having to make sure I have a backup of everything kills a lot of the user experience for me. I can totally understand those who don't want to go the modding route if they can afford it. Especially right now while the store is open. After that yeah, you don't have much of a choice really.
It's surprising how no one in these videos mention how DSiWare is also going away on March 27th. You can see how much the Nintendo DSi meant to me based on my username lol as I haven't changed it yet, however there are some absolute GEMS leaving March 27th as well and some people may forget about that until it's too late.
For the Photos with Mario AR cards, you can just print out scans of the cards from online and those work fine, so you don’t have to worry about finding the old eshop cards.

I did a big splurge yesterday. I got Spirit Tracks, Phantom Hourglass, Metroid Zero Missions, Mario Golf Advance,Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and NES remix 2 on WiiU. I got Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice and Crimson Stroud on 3DS. There are other things that pique my interest, but I don’t want to spend large amounts of money
I was such a massive 3ds carrier and user. I bought 11 of them. The street pass expansion thing is awesome. Each of those games is honestly fantastic loved them all when I played my 3ds every day.
I’d suggest downloading the Pokémon Sun and Moon & Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire demos. They’re both free and the former is the only way to get the Ash-Greninja form. The latter gives you a special Glalie as well
I’m not a Pokémon fan myself but I do recall that you can ONLY get Ash Greninja in the Sun/Moon *demo*, so Pokémon fans will probably want to download that before the shutdown if they want to snag that, before it’s gone forever.
The only thing that matters to me before the eShop closes is getting a screenshot of all my proofs of purchases, since they didn't send confirmation emails back then. If I have to prove my "ownership" of what I actually paid for, I need to be able to.
My Wii collection was massive. I transferred everything to my WiiU and bought even more. Probably $500. It’s so much better than Nintendo Online. Sad that you can’t buy an NES title digitally for $5 and now we’re forced into subscriptions.
I hope to god that when the subscription service eventually goes out of service, there will eventually be an option to straight up buy the app/games in it

@@ians_parks You don't need videos, there's a website that you'll easily find if you look it up. It's a guide for 3DS homebrewing, with no mention of piracy for obvious reasons (though it's incredibly easy for anyone to do it after you're done).
Just so you know, the 3DS has a limit of 300 icons, not including the 13 built-in system icons nor any DSiWare titles. Folders and badges count as icons. So if you have a game (1 icon) + inside a folder (1 icon) + with a pretty little badge on it (1 icon), that's 3 icons used out of your 300 allotment.
Just got the Mario and Luigi remakes plus Dream Team, and I also managed to get Dual Destinies and Apollo Justice,so I am very happy with my eshop purchases.
I was a bit bummed about the eShop shutting down, but wasn't really looking for anything on it. As soon as I found out again that Photos with Mario exists, I SCREAMED and rushed to the eShop... only to be let down by realising we never got Photos with Mario. Or I didn't. I don't know how to get it, if anybody knows PLEASE make me aware of it _(a QR code in the video didn't help, it just said "Software unavailable")_ awesome video!!!
Finally logged back into my old NNID and was able to get all my old downloads and purchases back which motivated me to replace my top screen since it cracked after some smash games years ago.
I honestly didn’t know 3DS had themes until now lol. There’s a couple I like to purchase and will take advantage now. Thanks Zion for this informative video.

For everyone saying to just mod the system, not everyone knows how to or wants to do that. Sure it may be really easy, but some people just want to do things legitimately while there's still time to do so.
Thats fine, but not mentioning it in this video feels like dismissing such an important element to digital distribution. Leaving all of these decisions on how we can get our content to these big tech companies is only asking for trouble.
@@sigvif With mods you can back up all of it to keep it safe. Right now you will lose it all if anything happens to your 3ds and it is essentially risk free. One of the first steps is making a nand backup so that you can recover if anything was to ever happen.
Note about Liberation Maiden: this game has no control options for left-handed players. I bought it years ago without knowing this, got through it anyway (at least on easy mode) but the awkwardness definitely made it harder to get into. It's also very very short
According to the official Nintendo manual the 3ds supports upto 32GB sdcards but you can use upto 128GB cards if you want to, but it won't run out of the box. first you format the sdcard to make it compatible with the 3DS. you might need to download a formating software for it though because MS Windows won't allow you to format SDXC cards to FAT file system.
OH MY GOD! I've wanted to download "Attack of the Friday Monsters" since I learned about it in January. But I didn't have any funds in my account and thought there was no way to add funds anymore. So I gave up and figured I'd have to emulate the game someday. But the Switch/e-Shop connection work around is genius! Why didn't anyone say that before??? Oh god, I only have a few days now!

I knew about a lot of those features when I brought my 3DS to Pax East in 2019 and 2020, I just never bought them since I wasn't able to take advantage of them after college as much. It's really melancholic. It feels like a door on my past is closing. I used to get 100's of hits in one day at PAX east in 2014/2015 and all the developers had them at each of their booths! As soon as you cleaned out 20 visitors, they'd throw in another 20 instantly! haha When I went in 2020 before covid happened, I had only gotten about less than 20 which was a far cry from years prior. I hope you got lots of hits, I feel like streetpass will explode in the years to come. I'll try to go to PAX next year because I just got the Streetpass upgrade and Bundle #3, having only gotten Slot car rivals and monster manor years before.
The 3DS CAN work with larger SD cards. The trick is the file system. 3DS uses FAT32 as the format for its file system, which only NATIVELY works on up to 32GB. 64GB and higher cards prefer exFAT, but you can cheat and format your exFAT card as FAT32, allowing the 3DS to read it. It took me longer than I would've liked to do this, as Windows no longer allows you to use the FAT32 format on a card that is more than 32GB. But there are still programs that can do it. My current SD card is arguably overkill, at 128 GB
Great video. I still haven’t heard about Spotpass which is different from Streetpass and does use servers. It pushes DLC instead of needing to pull it yourself, all free and some is extensive like loads of new levels in Samurai Warriors Chronicles.
Twilight Princess and Wind Waker physical prices are skyrocketing right now so even if TP Is $50 currently both games used run around $100 while new copies are trending to $200
18:25 for SD cards that don’t work with the 3DS, all you have to do is format it as fat32 on your computer. It’s not recommend that you use an absolutely massive SD card though, (ex. 1tb), as this can slow boot times.
The three Dillon's Rolling Western games will be inaccessible after March 27th too. He's the armadillo assist trophy in Smash. They're pretty fun action/tower defense-type games. Definitely worth a shot if you have some extra cash.
The online functionality for the RPG Maker player is actually shutting down just after the eShop does, so make sure you download any games you want on it ASAP
Man, I had wind waker and twilight princess HD on my WiiU but when the switch came out, I sold my WiiU to a friend because I was like "surely these will be ported to the switch" and at the time I needed extra cash to be able to get the switch on launch day. Lots of regret there. But I still feel like the moment i decide to shell out for a used WiiU and those games, BAM, Nintendo will release them on switch... sigh
Just a PSA: You can beat chapter 1-6 VERY FAST in Fire Emblem Fates! Use Normal difficulty and Phoenix mode and skip all cutscenes, use autobattle and skip the enemy phase. You should be 99% fine in this mode! You will miss out on the story and strategizing of course but the goal is to clear chapter 6 FAST. Once you do that, you can just restart and play it properly, once you have all your DLC. Be sure to pick up all 3 paths (Birthright, Conquest, Revelation), and if you want more story beats I recommend the Heirs of Fate and the Hidden Truths DLC maps. The rest are nice to have (giving you grinding maps, new classes, and a few other bonuses, but not really that much story content.
I loved this video! I really hope I manage to get some of the games (at least the free ones) before the eshop closes. I just wish it was closing AFTER pay day! 😭 On that note, I'm off to charge my 2DS and pray for a StreetPass.
For anyone watching in the future: SD and microSDs of 64 GB or higher MUST be converted to FAT32 format (using online formatting tools) to run properly on 3DS family systems
Play your Wii U and 3ds! Hi all! If you love the Wii U and 3ds please PLAY them daily or at least weekly because your play data is still given to Nintendo. If we all play our systems regularly Nintendo will at least know how much this wonderful community of ours loves the Wii U and 3ds. I find it wild that of the dozens of YT videos talking about recommendations and whatnot of which games one can still download since only god knows when they are coming back, you were the only to even mention Pokémon games.

I never got to use streetpass because I don't really go anywhere, but I might get those few things in case I ever do. I wish they'd made more of a big deal about the 3DS being discontinued back when they stopped making them like "this is your last chance to buy a new 3DS!" 'cause now second hand ones are twice the price that new ones were, but oh well.
If you do not have a switch that is fine, you do not need it for funds. Last night I added funds to my lil nieces 2DS via her dad and my computer....we live far away and it worked. Just make sure that the network ID on the 3DS matches the network ID on your computer. Hit Merge accounts and then add funds

Honestly it's pretty sad they found the need to close the shop, and it's especially bizarre knowing the backlash Sony got when trying to close the ps3 one. And if the credit system is even integrated with the switch one, I don't really see how much this will actually same them in server costs. But as you said, "we'll figure something out" 🏴☠️
For any who worry a rough gage on how long updating is going to last. I updated the zelda Twilight Princess game on my wii via internet connection about 6 months ago. So, we are probably looking at very long term. Though I agree, "at further notice" is not comforting.
Yeah it sucks ass. I’ve just gone and done all my purchases early because Gurumin 3D was supposed to go on sale yesterday but Nintendo of Europe refused it because they said they wanted all games on sale by a particular date. So, that was the last straw and I realised how there would likely be no more games on sale due to this so I just decided to finally give myself Ace Attorney after waiting for a year and tbh man it’s bloody fantastic.

In future I'm definitely just gonna not buy a whole lot of games on their consoles except from the Level 5 ones coming out because this whole closure has shown me how much they really don't give a shit about us. If you want to use a bigger SD card then its no issue. The reason why Nintendo said its only supporting up to 32gb is because it needs to be formatted in FAT32 which windows will only allow up to 32 gig sizes because of some licensing stuff on microsofts side. For everything above you will need additional software to format it. Mac and Linux can do it without issues. Because its not simply "plug and play" nintendo mos tlikely just said it doesent work but the 3ds reads it perfectly fine edit: 32gb and lower will usually come formatted in fat32 so there is no need to do any manual work
It really pains me - I dropped my 3DS and now it crashes whenever the wireless switch is turned on, so now I can only use it offline. Shame I couldn't get it fixed in time to pick some of these up, I've only just started using it again
Here's one that everyone should be onboard with if they have more than one 3DS - mod one of them. It's easy, legal, and serves a ton of practical purposes besides getting games for free. Regardless of your feelings about piracy it will be the only way to get free game updates and patches for existing physical copies. As someone who plays a lot of PC games from the 90s' and early 00s' back when we had to manually patch our games there are so many patches lost to time and without them many games are missing major features, retain game-breaking bugs, or are even outright unplayable. There's a lot you can arguable about the ethics of committing piracy to preserve games - especially digital only content - but none of that applies here we're talking about *free* updates and patches. There is no moral ambiguity here and as someone who has seen a lot of great PC games lose features to the march of time and lack of proper preservation I'd hate to see it happen to 3DS games just because they haven't thought through this particular situation. There is absolutely no moral or legal conundrum of any kind here.
For those who just say mod the system. Theirs still risk. You can always brick the console regardless of how unlikely it is and some people just don’t want to do that. Plus regardless of it being extremely unlikely again your system still could get bricked and you still could get banned by Nintendo.

I demand you play Kid Icarus Uprising before it's too late. Everything from the gameplay to the story is incredible. It is quite possibly the best 3DS game in terms of design
Thanks for doing this video! With everything going on, it was a nice reminder to dust off our Nintendo 3DS & Wii U. Just went on the 3DS eshop & downloaded themes & etc. I used to carry my 3DS everywhere with me, and I think I will start doing so again. So many memories with StreetPass! It is very sad to see these shops and their games ending. Hopefully more games like Miitopia will be ported to the Switch & future Nintendo consoles.
For the few people that want to play around with photos with mario but don't have the ar cards and don't want to buy them you can look up a picture of the ar card and it will actually register them as the actual card.
you can also probably print them all on one page and use that

I loved streetpass. I used to carry my 3ds in my backpack in college and would get the same passes each week on specific days from others doing the same thing. Plus, bringing it to events and vacations was always fun!

SoCal had a fun meetup group for that for a while. Got a couple Kid Icarus Uprising card booster packs through that, including some Japanese ones.

Loved it too! I also collected people from all over the world when I brought the 3DS along for long distance travels, it was exciting to see the country maps fill up.
It's sad how Nintendo got rid of the fun gimmicks completely with the Switch.

I know that many won't miss it that much, but damn... I still remember when I was at work and my brother sent me a message on my phone saying that they finally delivered the Wii U to my house, I've never run so fast in my entire life.
I got home all excited wanting to play Mario Kart 8 as soon as possible, I put the Wii U on and it was an explosion of joy, I spent hours on Miiverse looking at other people's posts, downloading demos from the eShop and playing Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8, I have so many great memories with the Wii U, I still have it here with me next to my Switch and will probably never get rid of it.
As much as the WIi U was a failure, it is one of the consoles I love the most, it will always be amazing to me, it was the first console I bought with my own money, it was the first console I followed from beginning to end, it was the first console I was able to play on day one of launch and it was the console that gave me amazing experiences like Breath of the Wild.

Thank you for your comment. Reading this brought a rush of memories of when I was 15 years old. The first brand new console I bought with my own money was a Nintendo GameCube. I picked up Luigi’s mansion, Star Wars rouge squadron 2 and James Bond agent under fire with a black GameCube. Such an amazing feeling to buy a console on your own for the first time, you truly enjoy the games even more knowing your hard earned money went to such a great thing. Growing up I’ve always played Nintendo and I’m sad the Wii U’s era is finally coming to an end but I plan on browsing the e-shop today before they close it for good. I’m gonna pick up some more games so I can enjoy the Wii U for years to come. 😄

I was completely oblivious to this whole situation. My Wii U has been in a closet for years but I just played Metroid Prime Remaster on the Switch and was wanting to play more Metoid and discovered that most of the games could be played on the Wii U, then I found out it was just weeks before the eshop closed good. I checked my old wish list and grabbed everything I handed bought. I've been playing the Wii U more than my PS5 in the last week. It's such a bizare thing this console missfired so badly, it really is still a quality system.

Crazy, I haven’t downloaded anything on the 3DS in years and now I’m buying a bunch of games lol. Definitely getting all those capcom games they’re basically a steal.
Don't forget about the 3D Classics series (especially Kirby's Adventure.) It plays even better than the original version with no slowdown and the 3D effect looks really cool.

This really does feel like… way too early for this to happen. It sucks. I get that they can’t keep it around forever, but there were first-party 3DS games that came out in 2019. It just seems like these consoles haven’t been dead long enough to shut everything down.
I completely agree. They kept the WiiShop online for 6 or 7 Years after the Wii was discontinued, yet the 3DS/Wii U eShops are being put out to pasture only 3 years after discontinuation.
I agree, I've seen some of the titles that were added as late as 2019 in the store as I've been deciding what to last minute buy and it just makes me feel like it was too soon, I mean I know the 3ds has been out for a while but if games and dlc were still being added to the store then they should have given it at least 5 years from the last added game before shut down. I'm really sad that due to my financial situation I won't be able to get as much of the download only stuff as I'd like because of the store closing in the next day.
There’s a prequel-demo of sorts for Bravely Second. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it takes place before the game itself and has a self contained story. Haven’t played it yet, but I believe it’s free and totally exclusive to the eshop.

I think you might still be able to download free apps, just like those you've already paid for. Anyway, even if that's not the case, you will still be able to "pirate" the free demo after homebrewing.
@Leon Hmmm, yes free apps will be available I believe but maybe only the special demos or maybe not even that. It's good to get them if you have space for good measure I think and if they are linked to your nintendo network ID then they should be redownloadable.
Absolutely worth getting, I got about 10-12 hours out of this demo. And yes, it has its own story.
It also includes some exclusive party members. I highly recommend anyone who likes a good RPG to get it and the Bravely games on 3DS!
This has been such a strange week. I haven't played on my 3DS or Wii U since around 2017, and I never got a Switch -- I kind of moved on from gaming. But I knew the eShops were closing, and so I've dived back in to the community for the first time in years. It's been really great to see and hear from all those RUclipsrs and bloggers whom I watched for hours and hours. I've just downloaded some freebie themes and looking at whether I want to get some dlc. It looks like the Badge Arcade has already taken away the free plays, but I got about a fortnight's worth of new badges. After this weekend it really will be over, and I'll probably leave gaming again. But it was good to be part of this world again for just a few weeks. Take care everyone.

I just bought a Wii U last year, so I know I've missed a lot while I am still trying to cram years of games, and decades of virtual console games, into my limited play time, but Affordable Space Adventure is the game that has so far had the best Wii U gamepad implementation. I played the game solo, and absolutely loved it, and I've heard the 3 person coop is even better than solo play, if that's an avenue you have available.
Also, thank you for videos like this helping me make sure I don't miss things in the mad scramble at the end here.
Really sucks to see the eshops close and see a lot of these games get lost. But lucky i did pick up a lot of these games throughout the years on both my 3ds and wiiu. Still need to grab a few especially the digital only ones like style savvy styling star. Never thought i would be into these type of games but i took a chance on trendsetters and got hooked.

I wish I'd had more time to buy stuff for my 3ds, I was a kid when it came out so could only get what my parents were willing to buy me. When I eventually got my own income through a job I had other money concerns then the luxury that was the 3ds. It makes me extremely sad that I'm now going to lose the opportunity to buy all the unique games on the 3ds (I know some will still be available by game card but I'm talking estore only stuff and DLC) because of my financial situation.
Hey, Zeon. Just FYI: In Fire Emblem Fates to get the Revelations dlc, the only prerequisite is to already have both Conquest/Birthright beforehand. You don't need to have played the game at all. Make sure the game is patched to the final ver. This is what I did some time ago when they announced the eshop closure.

It's the sad reality that even the update servers will eventually be taken down is what does it for me. Especially when so many games get pushed out half baked and need multiple updates just to iron out all the kinks. Thankfully the modding community has it covered.
Wow, seeing all these Eshop recommendations videos are really bringing back the nostalgia. Looking back over the decade, life seemed so much simpler then.
FOMO bought all the Pokémon virtual console games. Even though 3DS wasn't as utilized as much as I would have liked being busy adulting and such, I still have a lot of good memories with this system and the Wii U.
Ended up getting 3DS initially for Pokémon X and Y. All my friends got back into Pokémon with that title, and we would get together with our 3DS and play together. Played Smash on 3DS until it was released on Wii U, then pretty much forgot about the 3DS version.
Wii U was basically just a Smash and Splatoon machine for me. Completely forgot about street pass until I recently checked it. Had a couple occurrences that I don't remember at all but were probably from the only occasions when I did use 3DS public, which was waiting out in lines hours early during Amiibo hunts while that was still a craze.
How things have changed over the years.
You need to format it as fat32 with a special tool to use micro sds bigger than 32GB, I use a 128GB one and it works well, I do get longer boot up times but the in game performance is the same
I actually tried to switch from a 64gb to 128b micro sd card but for some reason the data wouldn't move and as a result I ended up transferring the data from my 32gb micro sd card to the 128 card which meant I had to redownload everything else that wasn't on the 32gb card but was on the 64gb card. In fact I have to now go through every game to make sure to download all the dlc now, again!
When you format it to fat32, choose the largest allocation size and it will boot up quicker. My original sd card booted my 2DS XL up in 6 secs. When I put my new sd card in that is set to the largest allocation size available it is 8.5 secs, so not a big deal. If you have a smaller allocation size set it can take a lot longer to boot up. I think the extra 2.5 seconds was worth going from 4 gb to 128 gb.

About the SD card size
All you need to do is with a pc to format the SD card that is more than 32GB to the format called fat32 and you can use bigger size cards
There’s a big problem with Pokémon Bank becoming free and that is that it’s gonna be after the eshop shutdown. You need to have had a subscription at some point to be able to download poke transporter which is needed for transfer from gens 1-5 to bank. So if you haven’t gotten it until the eshop shutdown too bad you can’t transfer
It *is* worth noting, but it'll also affect basically nobody. Anybody who's made use of Bank over the years will necessarily have acquired Transporter already, and anyone who hasn't apparently never needed it.

True, but it isn’t the end of the world. GBA to DS is all available without Bank, so you can still do the first five regions in a row if you get the games. XY and ORAS have all the Pokémon except event mons and can trade between each other offline.
That said, if you have a particular mon you want to keep for sentimental reasons, now’s the time to transfer up to Home.

The things that im most worried about when the 3ds and Wiiu eshop well be closed are the Smash bros dlc,they were like a huge part of the serie's history and now that there are going away forever it hurts

I totally forgot about all the DLC to Streetpass and when you mentioned it I immediately opened up my 3ds and made what’s probably the most impulse buy of my life
I can tell you from personal experience having already modded my systems that navigating all the homebrew/debug menus, keeping track of firmware updates and exploits being patched out, potentially crashing/bricking my system and having to make sure I have a backup of everything kills a lot of the user experience for me. I can totally understand those who don't want to go the modding route if they can afford it. Especially right now while the store is open. After that yeah, you don't have much of a choice really.

It's surprising how no one in these videos mention how DSiWare is also going away on March 27th. You can see how much the Nintendo DSi meant to me based on my username lol as I haven't changed it yet, however there are some absolute GEMS leaving March 27th as well and some people may forget about that until it's too late.
For the Photos with Mario AR cards, you can just print out scans of the cards from online and those work fine, so you don’t have to worry about finding the old eshop cards.

I did a big splurge yesterday. I got Spirit Tracks, Phantom Hourglass, Metroid Zero Missions, Mario Golf Advance,Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and NES remix 2 on WiiU. I got Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice and Crimson Stroud on 3DS. There are other things that pique my interest, but I don’t want to spend large amounts of money

I was such a massive 3ds carrier and user. I bought 11 of them. The street pass expansion thing is awesome. Each of those games is honestly fantastic loved them all when I played my 3ds every day.

I’d suggest downloading the Pokémon Sun and Moon & Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire demos. They’re both free and the former is the only way to get the Ash-Greninja form. The latter gives you a special Glalie as well

I’m not a Pokémon fan myself but I do recall that you can ONLY get Ash Greninja in the Sun/Moon *demo*, so Pokémon fans will probably want to download that before the shutdown if they want to snag that, before it’s gone forever.
The only thing that matters to me before the eShop closes is getting a screenshot of all my proofs of purchases, since they didn't send confirmation emails back then. If I have to prove my "ownership" of what I actually paid for, I need to be able to.
My Wii collection was massive. I transferred everything to my WiiU and bought even more. Probably $500. It’s so much better than Nintendo Online. Sad that you can’t buy an NES title digitally for $5 and now we’re forced into subscriptions.
I hope to god that when the subscription service eventually goes out of service, there will eventually be an option to straight up buy the app/games in it

Just so you know, the 3DS has a limit of 300 icons, not including the 13 built-in system icons nor any DSiWare titles. Folders and badges count as icons. So if you have a game (1 icon) + inside a folder (1 icon) + with a pretty little badge on it (1 icon), that's 3 icons used out of your 300 allotment.
Just got the Mario and Luigi remakes plus Dream Team, and I also managed to get Dual Destinies and Apollo Justice,so I am very happy with my eshop purchases.
I was a bit bummed about the eShop shutting down, but wasn't really looking for anything on it. As soon as I found out again that Photos with Mario exists, I SCREAMED and rushed to the eShop... only to be let down by realising we never got Photos with Mario. Or I didn't. I don't know how to get it, if anybody knows PLEASE make me aware of it _(a QR code in the video didn't help, it just said "Software unavailable")_

Finally logged back into my old NNID and was able to get all my old downloads and purchases back which motivated me to replace my top screen since it cracked after some smash games years ago.

@@sigvif With mods you can back up all of it to keep it safe. Right now you will lose it all if anything happens to your 3ds and it is essentially risk free. One of the first steps is making a nand backup so that you can recover if anything was to ever happen.

Note about Liberation Maiden: this game has no control options for left-handed players. I bought it years ago without knowing this, got through it anyway (at least on easy mode) but the awkwardness definitely made it harder to get into. It's also very very short
According to the official Nintendo manual the 3ds supports upto 32GB sdcards but you can use upto 128GB cards if you want to, but it won't run out of the box. first you format the sdcard to make it compatible with the 3DS. you might need to download a formating software for it though because MS Windows won't allow you to format SDXC cards to FAT file system.

I knew about a lot of those features when I brought my 3DS to Pax East in 2019 and 2020, I just never bought them since I wasn't able to take advantage of them after college as much. It's really melancholic. It feels like a door on my past is closing. I used to get 100's of hits in one day at PAX east in 2014/2015 and all the developers had them at each of their booths! As soon as you cleaned out 20 visitors, they'd throw in another 20 instantly! haha When I went in 2020 before covid happened, I had only gotten about less than 20 which was a far cry from years prior. I hope you got lots of hits, I feel like streetpass will explode in the years to come. I'll try to go to PAX next year because I just got the Streetpass upgrade and Bundle #3, having only gotten Slot car rivals and monster manor years before.

Rhythm Heaven Megamix did actually get a physical release in PAL regions. Just not in the NTSC regions, which is unfortunate for American gamers.
The 3DS CAN work with larger SD cards. The trick is the file system. 3DS uses FAT32 as the format for its file system, which only NATIVELY works on up to 32GB. 64GB and higher cards prefer exFAT, but you can cheat and format your exFAT card as FAT32, allowing the 3DS to read it. It took me longer than I would've liked to do this, as Windows no longer allows you to use the FAT32 format on a card that is more than 32GB. But there are still programs that can do it. My current SD card is arguably overkill, at 128 GB

Great video. I still haven’t heard about Spotpass which is different from Streetpass and does use servers. It pushes DLC instead of needing to pull it yourself, all free and some is extensive like loads of new levels in Samurai Warriors Chronicles.
Twilight Princess and Wind Waker physical prices are skyrocketing right now so even if TP Is $50 currently both games used run around $100 while new copies are trending to $200
18:25 for SD cards that don’t work with the 3DS, all you have to do is format it as fat32 on your computer. It’s not recommend that you use an absolutely massive SD card though, (ex. 1tb), as this can slow boot times.

The three Dillon's Rolling Western games will be inaccessible after March 27th too. He's the armadillo assist trophy in Smash. They're pretty fun action/tower defense-type games. Definitely worth a shot if you have some extra cash.
The AVGN game is really cool on 3DS specially how the different layers look with the 3D feature, so that’s a game I really recommend

The online functionality for the RPG Maker player is actually shutting down just after the eShop does, so make sure you download any games you want on it ASAP

Man, I had wind waker and twilight princess HD on my WiiU but when the switch came out, I sold my WiiU to a friend because I was like "surely these will be ported to the switch" and at the time I needed extra cash to be able to get the switch on launch day. Lots of regret there. But I still feel like the moment i decide to shell out for a used WiiU and those games, BAM, Nintendo will release them on switch... sigh
Just a PSA: You can beat chapter 1-6 VERY FAST in Fire Emblem Fates! Use Normal difficulty and Phoenix mode and skip all cutscenes, use autobattle and skip the enemy phase. You should be 99% fine in this mode! You will miss out on the story and strategizing of course but the goal is to clear chapter 6 FAST. Once you do that, you can just restart and play it properly, once you have all your DLC. Be sure to pick up all 3 paths (Birthright, Conquest, Revelation), and if you want more story beats I recommend the Heirs of Fate and the Hidden Truths DLC maps. The rest are nice to have (giving you grinding maps, new classes, and a few other bonuses, but not really that much story content.
They considered the time to get to the point where you can download other DLC, which is why they stopped selling the base digital game weeks ago.
This is only true in Europe and Japan. It's still available in North America.
I loved this video! I really hope I manage to get some of the games (at least the free ones) before the eshop closes. I just wish it was closing AFTER pay day! 😭 On that note, I'm off to charge my 2DS and pray for a StreetPass.
For anyone watching in the future: SD and microSDs of 64 GB or higher MUST be converted to FAT32 format (using online formatting tools) to run properly on 3DS family systems

I find it wild that of the dozens of YT videos talking about recommendations and whatnot of which games one can still download since only god knows when they are coming back, you were the only to even mention Pokémon games.

I never got to use streetpass because I don't really go anywhere, but I might get those few things in case I ever do. I wish they'd made more of a big deal about the 3DS being discontinued back when they stopped making them like "this is your last chance to buy a new 3DS!" 'cause now second hand ones are twice the price that new ones were, but oh well.

Last night I added funds to my lil nieces 2DS via her dad and my computer....we live far away and it worked. Just make sure that the network ID on the 3DS matches the network ID on your computer. Hit Merge accounts and then add funds

Honestly it's pretty sad they found the need to close the shop, and it's especially bizarre knowing the backlash Sony got when trying to close the ps3 one. And if the credit system is even integrated with the switch one, I don't really see how much this will actually same them in server costs.

For any who worry a rough gage on how long updating is going to last. I updated the zelda Twilight Princess game on my wii via internet connection about 6 months ago. So, we are probably looking at very long term. Though I agree, "at further notice" is not comforting.

Yeah it sucks ass. I’ve just gone and done all my purchases early because Gurumin 3D was supposed to go on sale yesterday but Nintendo of Europe refused it because they said they wanted all games on sale by a particular date. So, that was the last straw and I realised how there would likely be no more games on sale due to this so I just decided to finally give myself Ace Attorney after waiting for a year and tbh man it’s bloody fantastic.

In future I'm definitely just gonna not buy a whole lot of games on their consoles except from the Level 5 ones coming out because this whole closure has shown me how much they really don't give a shit about us. Quite frankly, I don't blame people for seeking alternative routes to get the games

If you want to use a bigger SD card then its no issue. The reason why Nintendo said its only supporting up to 32gb is because it needs to be formatted in FAT32 which windows will only allow up to 32 gig sizes because of some licensing stuff on microsofts side. For everything above you will need additional software to format it. Mac and Linux can do it without issues.
Because its not simply "plug and play" nintendo mos tlikely just said it doesent work but the 3ds reads it perfectly fine
edit: 32gb and lower will usually come formatted in fat32 so there is no need to do any manual work
It really pains me - I dropped my 3DS and now it crashes whenever the wireless switch is turned on, so now I can only use it offline. Shame I couldn't get it fixed in time to pick some of these up, I've only just started using it again
Here's one that everyone should be onboard with if they have more than one 3DS - mod one of them.
It's easy, legal, and serves a ton of practical purposes besides getting games for free. Regardless of your feelings about piracy it will be the only way to get free game updates and patches for existing physical copies. As someone who plays a lot of PC games from the 90s' and early 00s' back when we had to manually patch our games there are so many patches lost to time and without them many games are missing major features, retain game-breaking bugs, or are even outright unplayable. There's a lot you can arguable about the ethics of committing piracy to preserve games - especially digital only content - but none of that applies here we're talking about *free* updates and patches. There is no moral ambiguity here and as someone who has seen a lot of great PC games lose features to the march of time and lack of proper preservation I'd hate to see it happen to 3DS games just because they haven't thought through this particular situation. There is absolutely no moral or legal conundrum of any kind here.
For those who just say mod the system. Theirs still risk. You can always brick the console regardless of how unlikely it is and some people just don’t want to do that. Plus regardless of it being extremely unlikely again your system still could get bricked and you still could get banned by Nintendo.
If you just follow the guide (there is even youtube videos) there is 0% you will brick it unless you are just stupid

@@carreon-mj2ji Nah theirs still chances it’s bullshit. Nintendo banned people from online play back in 2017 so says 3ds.hacks.guide. With that in mind all they said was well that was a while ago🤷🏻♀️like nah I’m not going to risk even the smallest chance of bricking my expensive ass console that if I brick it I won’t be able to get another one with any digital games I purchased for years and also I just don’t want Nintendo to fucking ban me from anything cause they could. Why would I risk that?

It is very sad to see these shops and their games ending. Hopefully more games like Miitopia will be ported to the Switch & future Nintendo consoles.
