That's the problem with the new Pokemon s&v set unfortunately.. every pack gets a trophy so nobody gets their feelings hurt. Kills the thrill of the chase imo
That's what happens when you design a hobby box with the only major chase being variant and numbered parallels. Everything in the core checklist becomes worthless say for 3-5 big cards, then the "money" is tied to the 1:1,273 odds of hitting a numbered card. It makes the game dirt cheap and keeps collectors/investors happy.
Typical of most standard sets unfortunately. I don't think wotc is stuffing the boxes like they used to. before 2022 Id crack boxes and get at least 120% of the box value in random cards, now I get 80% if I'm lucky.
Singles sellers are struggling. So many versions we have to cancel or refund orders. Plus with the non stop reprints we lose alot of equity on things and have to take losses.
There is a reason rudy doesnt post card prices as he pulls them. He likes to get excited about 4 and 5 dollar cards to make it seem like the pack was a win.
Of course. This is world-class shilling. Rudy's baby-bottom-smooth delivery will first mesmerize you with feline adroitness, thereby putting you in the proverbial [Abagnalian] "cloud"-enveloping you in a warm stupor, like a thick mist, the waking up from which will meet you with a pallet of worthless product in your basement, your wife 's divorce papers, and collectors banging at the door! Damn you, Rudy!! ( oДo)
Love that card come out of the pack straight in LP condition, on a premium super expensive pack. Apart from pure gambling I see zero reason why someone should ever open one.
As a singles seller primarily - it all comes down to set familiarity and how fast you can type up a good title that fits in the character count limit lol
I had decided I was going to buy a collector box before the set was fully spoiled. After I found out what was in it though, my opinion changed. The multiverse legends cards are a neat idea, but I don't want a collector box filled with reprints from other sets however. I want the fancy cards from the actual set. I ultimately just bought singles of the cards I wanted.
The chase lottery frames being reused is kind of split opinion for me. I don't like it being used on uncommons and other easy pulls. I think reusing the invention frame would've hardly been criticized if it was only used on Ragavan. That would have been a responsible way to reuse it because ragavan is a hard enough pull and demands excitement always.
I still think that the black and white sketch cards look like garbage. To each their own. Both boxes did not have much value at all. You are right, it looks like Wizards just threw a bunch of cards from different sets together and the lands lost their luster. I will wait and buy some of the singles that I want. Thank you for the video Rudy.
It's funny I now have an extreme aversion to any variant. I only want the regular nonfoil version. They look better.... All this "bling" belongs in a landfill. As they say you can't polish a turd and most standard cards aren't worth much, so a shiny treatment doesn't magically make it worth a lot.
It was great meeting you in Baltimore, I hope you have many fond memories with the playmat. It was great seeing the mat I gave you in a video and made my day.
The set is free tendies at higher crack rates, and it'll have legs given the power level of both MOM and MOC, on top of people chasing the lottery cards. As far as the actual act of selling singles, this one is pretty damn rough to keep inventory accurate on. Especially at high volume.
Those boxes were absolute trash in terms of value. Only 1 good original praetor hit & Invasion of Ikoria rare, but rest were bad. No good set mythics, only 1 Knight Commander deck card, & no Atraxa/Ragavan. Patron lost 80-90% of their money.
The quality of those foils looks AMAZING. But at the same time you see the shortcomings of the japanese print technique and materials used. Every dark artwork foiled sucks on those. See for example at 03:37). As a singles buyer I usually ask people when i want a specific foil with a dark artwort in hope someone sends me a picture of a card from belgium. The foils pop like american prints but without the scratches and bubbles as product defects. Edit: The variation of those packs is beyond reasonable. The designers overdid it here. Edit2: Try to authenticate a normal non foil of those with the common techniques you will see a suprise (maybe multiple suprises :)
single seller here, in order to keep informed on the contents and treatments of the products, i do have to absorb content from wizards as well as other content creators and social media. it's a little hectic but once I know what's in it, it's not that bad. Of course, sorting numerically has now become key and as many have mentioned, the big money has shifted to the serialized cards and as I don't specialize in those, the income from newer sets is minimal.
100% agree. How does everyone feel about Aftermath's CB box art? I'm a big fan but also respect it's not for everyone. Not everyone is down with chaotic composition in general let alone in the MTG art world. It's a major departure. But I think we all can agree it's assertive. It knows what it wants to be, unlike MOM's bland indecisive direction.
Rudy used to be excited about magic. He used to be full of that "Rudy" energy. The mythic tracking and yelling! The games he used to have. I have watched him for years and was a patron for awhile. He may be burnt out but I miss the Rudy we all used to love.
As someone who just got back into Magic, this set is awesome for me because it feels like a "Catch up set". Has a bit of the highlights from different sets, the art treatments, and pherexians from the past and current sets. This plus Dominaria Remastered, I'm super happy to be cracking packs.
Aftermath has 50 cards with 342 unique variants total (43 with 8 and the rest with 7 versions each) plus the buy a box promo so slightly more versions in aftermath but these numbers are from memory and arnt garunteed.
@IlliniHeat I don't think that was me. I just did this yesterday and I don't generally comment on videos. It's kinda crazy it happened to someone else too though
Cards are incredibly unbeatably beautiful. I feel bad for people that work at card shops with all this insane variance but as a player i like it. Ps: Sad monkey tears for Patron.
I opened 3 set boxes printed in Japan. Horrible cutting. The edges are just brutal and have small crimps. Foiling is barely noticeable and like you pointed out faded. The packs are also horrible to open. They did a nice job with the foil etched though.
They couldn't reprint cards in a set called "commander legends 2" but they can reprint cards into the ground in this set? Magic has lost its soul, they gave it away...
Blocked from your Patreon? Unable to rejoin? Would have appreciated any kind of communication, especially after purchasing from you 5 times in 4 months :/
I like watching and listening to Rudy talk while he opens packs, but MTG is the least interesting packs to watch being open because of the 15 variants of any given Mythic. What is even worse is none of the versions feel very inspired or cool. Watching any other TCG is so much more fun to watch even when your not a player of the game. Rudy is the only person I watch open Magic.
This set is maximum hype, but the value is almost nothing. I guarantee that 95% of the fancy reprints are going to $0 immediately. People needed a couple Emrys, but now there are thousands more than are needed. People might have wanted a Yorion, but now same thing. Most of these cards are worthless, because the reprint ratio is too high. They're too easy to get, and thousands of people are getting them who don't need them. I can only imagine the nightmare of being a store owner and having hundreds of copies of these formerly mid-tier, $8 rares that will now be 50 cents. It's like Wizards got a lobotomy and thought that the alternate art would protect any of these cards from devaluation...what, do they think people will buy both versions of the cards just to collect them?
I was really hyped for step mom and then when it came out it seemed not as good. Way too much going on and theres like a handfull of cards that are decent. Honestly you're probably just chasing the Ragavan reprint or the crazy serialized cards. Takes away from just enjoying a set
Rudy doesn’t do the boxes as often anymore because he used to steal all the cards except rares and foils but charge the full price of box. I bet he doesn’t anymore. He and I had a falling out over his video of modern horizons 1. He took all the great commons uncommons ice covered lands and I didn’t even know that would happen when I paid the full box price.
When everything is special nothing is special.
When everything is special, nothing is special

that's my issue with this set.
@Persuasive Barrier you're my heroooo
@@doctorgap A set like that is good every once in a while to keep the kids interested. I'm sure the higher end cards will return before long.

If you don't get a serialized card you're going to lose 60-80% of your money

it's all about the serials
@@joshoa90210 getting a serialized card isn't typical, nor is losing 60-80% of what you paid. Typical would be getting 60-80% of your money back
although the set is really full of strong cards that are being played... I guess, it will recover soon.
@SteveFarEast 💩💩💩
This set is visually a 64 pack crayon box vomit stew.
Singles sellers are struggling. So many versions we have to cancel or refund orders. Plus with the non stop reprints we lose alot of equity on things and have to take losses.
Rudy pretending he doesn't know cards is always a fun video to watch.
It’s because 99% of the cards in MOM are worthless. You can’t shit on a product you sell. Serialized or bust
Hate the special card frames from the masterpiece being used
the reason its selling so well is because this is essentially a commander product at standard pricing.
There is a reason rudy doesnt post card prices as he pulls them. He likes to get excited about 4 and 5 dollar cards to make it seem like the pack was a win.

@Persuasive Barrier when I was 11 years old opening an ice age booster pack, yes.
@Persuasive Barrier Personally it just pisses me off because I'll usually lose money.
Also it's rather pointless to show prices that are two months out of date.
Is it illegal to like cards that aren't worth a bunch of money?
Love that card come out of the pack straight in LP condition, on a premium super expensive pack. Apart from pure gambling I see zero reason why someone should ever open one.

It is very sad what has happened to MTG - clown show
Exactly. This game has turned into an utter disappointment.
Does anyone wonder if they wanted to named this set Multiverse of Madness (MOM) and had to change it when Marvel sniped the trademark?
The chase lottery frames being reused is kind of split opinion for me. I don't like it being used on uncommons and other easy pulls.

Very true.

There is a lot of financial value if you can buy the box for $45.

i am replying to this to promote it in the comment algorthim
I demand immediate gains on all my cardboard plays.
Reading this comment made me poop my pants
About keeping track of all the variant as a cardseller, I just go by the collectornumber and treat a set as a 1000 cards set etc.
It's funny I now have an extreme aversion to any variant. I only want the regular nonfoil version. They look better....

outside of the serial cards there's not much value here in buying a collector box.

Thats a really good way to think about them. Not for super enfranchised players, but fantastic deals for newer players.
As a single seller... its been tooooough.
I hear you. It took me 2 days to stomach this video and now I'm not feeling so good going into aftermath.
This might be the most schizophrenic MtG product yet.
I miss when Rudy did mythic counts..
When every pack has mythics it doesn't really matter. Plus mythics aren't even worth that much as a category anymore.
Aftermath has 50 cards with 342 unique variants total (43 with 8 and the rest with 7 versions each) plus the buy a box promo so slightly more versions in aftermath but these numbers are from memory and arnt garunteed.
So in a nut shell wizards got lazy and put all the old cards from past sets into one set …. Nah I’m good
Couldn't understand instructions, bought a NM Alpha Dark Rit instead.
Hit an error pack where you had two etched cards and missed out on a full art foil.
Whew, I literally got better pulls from the two dice boxes I bought. Reprinted to death, everyone gets almost everything. No value.
The collectors were made in the US though?
You should tag all of your videos as ASMR with all of the card sliding, pack opening, and mouth noises. I bet you get some more traffic
That was some of the most awful RoI I have ever seen pulled. Folks, don't buy this set.
keep an eye opened. nobody expected the spanish inquisition... i mean the pinkertons
Cards are decent, art is great, but nobody is asking for these 12 different frames. Nobody.
Opened a bundle box 8 packs* paid for itself 1.3 times and keeps growing eveyday not a serialized card in it
5:13 rudy thats not kaya thats rona. both black with afros, different characters.
I got one collectors pack from Walmart and pulled a ragavan etched. Not serialized, but still decent for 1 pack

Rudy, the coin art is the new showcase frame for cards from Ixalan. You’ll see more of those early 2024 when Standard goes back to Ixalan.
Two months later and the price is holding.
I just checked tcgplayer and if you dont count the serialized cards, the most expensive card is $22. Thats rough for a set
products doing so good that Wizards are -10% revenue in the red, lmao.
Didn't they just beat their Q1 prediction of sales by like 16%? Unless there's an update I'm not aware of.
I enjoy these pump and dump collectors boxes 😮
As a certain professor says: “Buy singles.”
Why the fuck are there literally 7 different frame treatments in this set? What a mess
RUDY,,, Aftermath packs only have 5 cards/pack!!!😮
You'll lose ur ass on collector boxes in this set the collector variants are not different from the normal set box in price.
It seems like this product is a meme with all the different frames.
Opened two of these because I am a giant Timmy. The uncommon Multiverse Legends cards completely demolish the value of these packs.
It really is serialized or bust huh. All these cards look insane but they’re worth almost nothing.
Serialized or bust really with this product
They couldn't reprint cards in a set called "commander legends 2" but they can reprint cards into the ground in this set? Magic has lost its soul, they gave it away...
Yes they certainly did. And that is why I absolutely despise any and all new magic products not come out.
