Exactly what I needed! I have recently switched from Audacity to Studio One, and I narrate and produce audiobooks. I needed to find out how to do EQ, Noise Reduction and Compression. Great to know that you can do it with one controller! Very Cool. Thanks so much!
This was a great help! Thank you for making this video. Also, your English is just fine. Speaking multiple languages isn't easy and I commend you for your hard work.
This is the loveliest tutor's voice I've ever heard. Sorry you'd had a cold at the time but that captivating rasp is utmost thrilling. And the lecture itself is remarkably comprehensible, thank you so much. Though in the end I turned to Audacity for help - that provides a rather smart and delicate noise reduction tool. Can't quite understand why should PreSonus be so insistant on not including this highly demanded option. Anуway, thank you again, I'm glad that you just are. Stay - that's the way it should be.
Thanks for your comment. Artist or Pro edition do have better noise gate and expander options built in, but not in this free Prime edition, unless you purchase the Pro Add-on plugins for Prime.
Well this really helped with understanding the Channel Strip better. Now a days you can just start with a Gate in the inputs and negate any noise as you record.
Excellent video... just the thing i wanted to know and learn although for different purpose... Finally i watched an instructive video which is to the point and no BS about past life and post womb period for first 3 minutes... 1up
Ok the Chanel strip works when you not saying nothing. But once you start singing or rapping there’s still static in you vocals. Once you say anything the channel strip. the mic still picks up fuzz in your vocal.
The channel strip's expander is just a "gate". In PRIME, this is the best way. If your DAW supports VST plugin, then you can use dedicated plugins, like iZotope RX or WAVES Clarity
Great advice. Thanks for sharing this. I noticed that your vocal track didn't have sibilance on the "s", but with the expander, the S became sibilant. I am finding this with my tracks on Studio One. How do you deal with this? Is it necessary to notch down the EQ around 5 or 6 K and add a de esser? Or is there a better way to handle this? I have noticed the Binaural Pan produces sibilance that I can't remove. Any help appreciated.
If you believe your vocal ends up too sibilant, then the best advice is to use a de-esser. De-esser is a dynamic process, meaning no change unless the signal level is above the threshold. With notch eq, it's taken down all the time. I don't know why you hear more sibilant after the expander, but most likely due to in conjunction use of the compressor on the Channel Strip plugin.
Then, you need to reduce or move away from the noise. There are plugins that can remove noise, but Studio One Prime doesn’t support VST. Clarity by Waves, RX by iZotope, GOYO etc
@@RecordingStudio9 Hi, there's a misunderstanding here, i was talking about the noise in this vid when i listening to it with my good sound here, the noise, he says, will disappear but it is still there in his Vid.
The title says, "Reduce" not "Disappear". Because the channel strip is set with Expander which simply lowers the input signal and doesn't mute it. Also, any room noise while the audio is high will include the room noise as it's not cleaning the noise from the signal. Hope that explains.
This method Is good in a song with a backtrack loudy and rich of instruments but when you sing in a song with few instruments and very smooth and intimate vocals parts is not applicable, you have to clean the background noise with a tool that read the noise profile and automatically puts in the track the same noise profile with inverted phase (Audacity has a nice noise removing tool) this catches a lot of the background noise naturally and the track become clean and ready to play
Marius Video Thanks. Noise canceling by noise profile phase inversion only works for constant levels, like hum. Not for ever changing background room noise. You can still use noise profile noise canceling by adding the noise audio track, inverting it, then sending both into an aux bus.
+Nicholo Poriol Thank you for the feedback. I forgot to mention that in Studio One V3 Pro, there is an option to automatically cut silence of recorded audio. But since we are working with the Studio One V3 Prime free, it is not included, and this is the quick work around.
Studio One V4 comes with Melodyne for pitch correction. There are many videos in detail on how to use it already, even from the creators of Melodyne. Just do a RUclips search.
Search for a de-esser VST plugin for any other DAW as Studio One Prime does not support VST plugins. Purchase the Prime edition Add-on Bundle (shop.presonus.com/Studio-One-Prime-Pro-Plug-ins-Bundle) and use the Compressor with 'De-ess' preset.
Hi. I am still hearing like an electrical kind of hum. Any tips on hw to get rid of that noise whilst recording? Possibly from the program or laptop. Much thanks and cheers...
"Say it together-uuh" lol. Thanks man!!
NO one achieves this better than this video. Of course you need to EQ the track after the channel strip but MAN this solved a lot of issues. THANK YOU
Thanks for the feedback.

Glad my videos helped you out. Thanks for the comment.
This video is an absolute GODSEND! Vocal tracks sound a zillion times better. And now when I splice / move parts around, it's smooth as silk. Amazing!
Thanks 😊

Thank you! I was going nuts trying to pad the room further to cut down on noise!!

Thank you again, I'll bear that in mind. Anyway, S1 has proved so far to be the best in providing quality of recording itself. That's much already.
super helpful for live recordings on vocals and drums, thanks so much man
Well this really helped with understanding the Channel Strip better. Now a days you can just start with a Gate in the inputs and negate any noise as you record.
That's what I do. A gate ,and hi pass cut around 95.
Thank you So Much Professor!! You have saved me so much time and money with this genius video!!!🙏🏾💯
Thanks.
Now that I saved you money, you can donate that to me 😃
Glad I could help 👍

Dope advice. I used it... Works like a charm. Thanks man

Glad to hear it!
Nice video! S/O to the dog with the adlib @ 7:18
willing to learn. Unless you already understand setups, then I gues sit's gonna be easier, but as a classically trained pianist I was blown
Thank you for this tutorial sir 👍👍
Thank you for sharing this. I have re-recorded tracks until I watched your video.
Thanks. Glad it was helpful.
This works great!!! I thank you for the insite to the plugin.
I Usually export to audacity n Select noise reduction. But this was faster💯💯
Thanks
This is a great idea thanks for sharing but just one question. Does it messes with the effects on the vocal? Such as Delays etc.
Not at all. Place the FX plugin after the Channel Strip or on an FX bus and use SEND from the channel.
@@RecordingStudio9 Awesome thank you

Good advice, man.
Your videos are the best. Thank you so much.
this is what am looking for
Do you have any tutorials on best practices for recording clear electric guitar?
Hi, thankx for the vid, i realise that the noise is still there in my sound system here with or without that channel strip, when loud.
Then, you need to reduce or move away from the noise. There are plugins that can remove noise, but Studio One Prime doesn’t support VST.
Clarity by Waves, RX by iZotope, GOYO etc

Thanks. I really appreciate this..
Wow .. thank you for that tip.
Thanks for this video, it helped me out big time.
I'm glad it did.
really helpful thanks a lot
Thnx my friend you ve just solved me a big question!!!!! :)
I thought you were going to flip the phase of the recorded noise to cancel the noise from the recorded vocals. Well, great work.
Unless the noise is a constant, it doesn't work using phase inverting
@@RecordingStudio9 Yes, thats true.
holy mother fucking shit, I've been tryna solve this problem for ages
thanks for the help!!!!!
Thanks bro you help me alot
You sing real good :) keep it up
Very helpful, thank you brother.
Great Video Thank you again.
i got serious earworm right now.. great tutorial btw
I understand. Sorry. When creating the videos that have audio looping, I listen so many times that I get immuned to them LOL.Thanks for the feedback.
thank you veeeery much
Hey Nice Video.. so i have question how do you clean up noises manualy, without channel strip..Thanks
Manually would be to select and silence any audio between spoken words or music. A very long process.
RecordingStudio9.com nah i m using strip silence ,just do it that way.anyways thnx
That means you have the Studio One Pro. Studio One Prime does not have that option, hence my video.
RecordingStudio9.com well yeah
thank you very much.

can you post a video on that as well?
that "say it together" is slowly killing me...
I do have an accent, and English is not my first language. LOL, but I hope the example helped.
Thats the biggest noise I could hear inside the vocal booth :D
That was funny and thats alright. Your video helped me a lot. Thank you heaps!

Thanks, and I hope you get lot of of my videos.
So in a way if we want to use a channel strip would we have to speak louder into the microphone?
Hi there, what's that high pitch sound that is there throughout? I get that and I have no idea what that is
Possibly my old crappy tie-clip mic :P
Hey I'm really new to tNice tutorials, my GMS doesn't soft the sa, more like a continuous buzzing soft, does anyone know what I do? I
Thank you 🙏🏽
No problem 😊

Yes, all versions and editions do.

Yes.
thank you :)

Hi. I am still hearing like an electrical kind of hum. Any tips on hw to get rid of that noise whilst recording? Possibly from the program or laptop. Much thanks and cheers...
This depends on the quality of the equipment used, the mic, mixer or audio interface and the cabling. Software don't generate hum.
