    That is a completely different company that makes these, based on a different project, so no wonder that is different packaging, firmware etc. This version has no open firmware development going on so it's a bad choice, not to mention that is 2x price of the LiteVNA64.

    It just dawned on me… I can’t remember the last time you missed a day posting a video. You have to be approaching some record. The FV3 is nice but you’d think it was made of Platinum for what they get for it.

    Always worth trying to update the firmware to the latest version just in case the NanoVNA is fake, and the update bricks it. That way you can report it to the seller to get a refund (although not for review items, obviously).

    I believe with the newer versions they auto load your save0 slot at startup. I'm curious what the dynamic range of this one is.

    4:56 Installing the short... 😀 Compare and contrast: 1) When using microwave test equipment, there are always some older gentlemen that will immediately abseil down from the ceiling to sternly mention that if you dare to install the cable / connector without holding the center steady (i.e. "Do *not* rotate the center pin !!"), you will be punished ("Taken out and shot.") 2) The calibration Short device is typically machined as all-one-piece, so it's impossible to install it without rotating the center pin. Also, the Nano-VNAs are $100, so calm the heck down Elmer. I've only experienced this a half-dozen times... Comedy.

    That's a rather questionable clone of the real NanoVNA V3, personally I prefer the LiteVNA with the open firmware which is still being developed.

    I am enjoying your videos. I have a question about both NanoVNA and TinySA. Can either (or both) be used to evaluate antenna performance, such as to build a polar plot on a yagi, or to compare two vertical antennas and their respective gain. I am envisioning a NanoVNA with a small antenna connected to the input side and the antenna under test connected through it's feed line to the output, then scanning the design frequencies of the antenna under test while watching the received values. Might be a little clumsy to connect, but would it work?

      @@IMSAIGuy thanks. I’ve sent antennas (pcb printed for BT LE) to a shop like this for certifications. Pretty cool how they work. I’m thinking I can use either the Tiny SA or the NanoVNA to accomplish a comparison of home made VHF/UHF antennas though with less finesse and accuracy, but still get useful results. Maybe see gain while adjusting spacing in yagis, etc.

    Appreciate you showing us this but one thing concerns me is losing the lower 50 KHz capability.
    Yeah, you can say that anyone buying a 6-GHz unit doesn't care, but I worry that we'll never see newer and more advanced units that have good low-end.
    It is nice to have this real low-end for us guys that like to mess with design of VLF, MF and HF gear using low-frequency IF's and filters...

      I work and play with all of the things you mention. I figure all VNA's should start as close to DC as they reasonably can, then add higher frequencies as their big sales pitch. Not starting at the low end but promoting the high end is like selling a sports car that does 200 mph, but that you have to push start. It's just silly.

      @@johnwest7993 well thank you for being understanding because I’ve definitely gotten much more negative results to my comments about this. I’m also trying to figure out who in the world uses the 3 to 6 GHz as a hobby or whatever anyhow.
      If you get a chance to give them any kind of feedback I would explain this very salient fact to them.

      @@SpinStar1956, you're welcome. Most people don't have much use for characterizing anything at those high frequencies, but they want to be able to tell their friends they have a 200 mph VNA. It's just the way people are. On the other hand, most devices have very good characteristics below 50 kHz, so an analysis of them loses its importance. But I like to optimize and verify everything in my hobby work. Making electronic things work their very best is the nature of my hobby.

    If no what did you study and what can you recommend as the 'best' learning path

      Check a book named The Art of Electronics it does have everything a novice needs to know to start as a hobbyst.

    Show us the low end, 1 MHZ TO 10 MHZ. The version 3 was poor on the low end.

    Try putting the vna through an rf amp . I heard the osc is not pure and will Gen noise in amps
