My neighbor had A/C work done, he showed me the bill, guy charged him $700 for 6 lbs of NU-22 (that's marked up over 10 times and labor was on top of that)!

Nice troubleshoot and you're an honest tradesman...Those attic Air handlers are the stupidest things in the trades...The only thing in the attic should be the ductwork...They should make boxes in a corner of a room for them so you can do maintenance...Who the hell wants to crawl into a dirty insulation filled attic, usually in the hot weather! Most of the guys I know see that rusty compressor and say; NEW SYSTEM. ten grand...

I got a 2 ton York that’s a 2000 model and it still works great vents inside blow ice cold and outside unit blows Super hot Air off the top of the unit

New capacitors are not made to the same quality standards as before. Less heat tolerant and the oil used inside is inferior to the virgin oil used generations before. They are built shitty and HVAC companies love it that way. Most hvac’ers are just a step above being a criminal anyway
Great "trouble shooting" on the AC. Really liked your test equipment and having spare parts available from your truck. Being a retired electrician I'd have worn leather gloves when checking electrical equipment. Ripped latex gloves can be hazardous to your health, "momma."

Steve are supply houses out here carried the titan pro caps for a year I had nothing but problems with them lasting a max of two years .. and many testing bad out of the box how are they working for you ?

Not 410a because it’s a blend of different refrigerants. If you add 410a as a vapor you get uneven mixing of the refrigerants it is made of and it won’t work right. R-22 is only one refrigerant so it can be added in gas or liquid form.

I had my system leak fixed and the guy added NU-22... Said it was a safe alternative for R-22 systems... Is this true or did he just set my system up for failure?
let's say the cooling season last 5 months,if you can sell 100 service calls,avg. 1 per day and you avg.$200 clear on each call,that is $20,000 for you a season,less advertisements,tools,van,etc.(of course time on the job here is 2 hours on the job,include drive time)100 bucks an hour...
@@luanpham7469 because refrigerant is just going to leak out again over time. It would make more sense to charge for a leak test and fix it. Not only will you make more money off that call you also ensure the system will never go low again.

my AC was installed in summer of 2018. i have 2 central heat and air one for upstairs and one for downstairs BOTH arent kicking on. do you think the capacitors on BOTH units are bad? we dont use the system much. could not using the AC that much cause the capacitors to die out? i hear a quiet buzzing sound when i put my ear near the motor.
omar k ....if the AC is on and the inside furnace fan is running and the outside until is buzzing and and fan not running, 99.9% you have a blown capacitor that cost $15-$20 and a 5th grader could replace it. They will charge you $250-$500 to replace a fucking capacitor. Most HVAC are glorified used car salesmen. Most are not honest so watch every single move they make. Ask them to leave all parts with you when they leave.

Kenneth Lobo you think hes gonna chase down a leak that could be anywhere in system/that can take hours and her bill wouldve been thousands instead. Gotta remove r22 and fill with nitrogen which is expensive. Not worth the time or money.and he may never even find leak if its tiny which it is.

Damn I charged 175 for 3 pounds of 410. I know r22 isn't cheap though.

the older York systems she has not the newer ones with the problematic microchannel condensing coil. if she sells the home she may need new units

R22 is a single component refrigerant so either or only blends have to be charged by liquid only.

Steves price seems reasonable to both him and the customer. Maybe 1.5-2 hrs with drive, a $10 cap and $15 worth of freon, $3 filter and charging $309.
