I've worked 18 years for the RR, the last 11 for G&W. It's never been a policy that you have to have 2 years of class 1 experience to work at any G&W property. That trainee has 0 RR experience. Apply if there is an opening. There's 2 weeks of classroom and a minimum of 10 weeks in the field with a "peer trainer." I started my career with CSX. There is no 6 months of training in Atlanta. It was a 6 week class there and then back to your home terminal for additional 14 weeks of field/qualifying. Never too late to start with the RR!
When I looked on the railroad job listing website every short line or industrial switching job including at Sweeteners Plus which is a track mobile not a locomotive, said 2 years experience.
