For anyone curious, this board is hot swappable. They take Gateron Gen 1 optical switches or anything similar like Skyloong Opticals. The OPX switches are a ridiculously tight fit and a cheapo switch remover will most likely not get the switches out. Be very careful with putting any kind of pressure on the top plate if you try removing switches or mod the board. The top plate is thin and bends very easy. You can mess up the alignment of the optical switch and cause the bottom post to become misaligned and register false keypresses. I messed mine up doing some mods and thought the board was ruined but realized you can actually just cut the center post off the bottom of the switch. Then only the bottom of the stem pokes out the bottom of the switch when you press it and crosses the laser. Lube the stabs or get a good set of plate mount stabs and this thing is a dream.
@@leroyjenkins369 The switches are mounted into the plate so you should be able to get to the PCB without removing them. You need to pull the keycaps off and then remove the screws from the top plate. There's a lot of screws so look carefully. That was how i bent my top plate trying to remove it with one screw still in. And there is one ribbon cable underneath so don't just pull it apart. Once you do that, you remove 4 screws from the underside of the PCB and then it will separate from the top plate. The 4 screws are hidden under tiny black squares of tape.
I bought the board this morning at BB. I lubed the stabs with a syringe full of 205g0 and it totally fixed the rattle and sound. Good job Corsair. Thanks for the review Techne.

This was my main complaint with Corsairs keyboards and wrote the fact in my reviews including on Amazon. The lack of sound dampening ruins their boards. I hope they start refreshing their other boards with sound dampening soon
In all honesty, ping isn't removed via sound dampening, it just reduces it. You need to do a combination of things to get rid of ping. Thankfully this mini sounds like a big improvement over the previous ones.
As someone into customs I personally would like to see all gaming keyboards at 99 but I understand the importance of name brand gaming keyboards and I think $130 is pretty decent for this
Got it from Amazon for 50$ refurbished like new. It was hard to pass . It will replaced my K70 Lux that turned 10 years…it’s still working like a champ but I really wanted something new.
This new Pro added arrow keys, added an extra row to the right, thined it out to allow for legs or flat (K65 Mini 60% is one solid base no adjustment). My K65 MINI 60% has been my favorite keyboard.. as it should for how much it cost!!! MX Speed Keys was the version I bought. Now if only I could find a halfway decent numpad when work duty and some of the games that utilize that call.
HyperX keyboards seem to be my preference, I had a 1800 style royal kludge. Compared them today and the hyperx sits much lower and feels more natural, it actuates faster. Just a nicer keyboard overall. HyperX origin core 65. I think
Mr Techne. Love the reviews, mate. Always buy my gear based on your recommendation. I'm up for a new headset, and was wondering if you've had any experience with Skull Candy headsets? Cheers!
corsair is more than capable of making quality stuff so its nice to see them finally stepping up, im guessing at $130 it leaves them wiggle room, i can see it going on special sales for $99 eventually
Yup. Sadly the highest speeds are only available when their iQue software is running in the background chewing up resources. Not efficient like Wooting but that and the lack of Hall effect magnet switches is why it is cheaper.
Hey bro been watching your vids for a long time now. i was wondering can you do videos on Fantech products ? they're appearently really really good for their price and the HG23 octane headset would be a good product to start with since its extremely popular but only in middle eastern countries. so if u can do a review of that headset it would be much appreciated man.
I just picked this up today and enjoying it, my main small keyboard has been a HyperX Origins 60% which is a fantastic keyboard. My only concern on this, yes it's optical, is the price. As I said I'm enjoying it but not sure it's worth double, or close to double the price as they are often on sale. Jury out for me, I'll definitely keep both of them. Compared to the Razer 65% both are leaps and bounds more comfortable to me, the Razer is too high without a rest and it's the one size they don't make one for yet. Great review!
Thanks for the review Techne. Did you have any issues with the keyboard and ICUE? I just picked this up from Best Buy and it freezes up whenever I have ICUE open.
Same things happening to me. It seems to happen when using animated effects like rainbow or murals. No issues when it’s on a solid color, or if you use hardware lighting and stop iCUE completely.
@@billcipher534 Hey good stuff, I had the same thing happen, board locks up when iCue is running. I will give your recommendation a try. For now, I've just been shutting down iCue, but that defeats the purpose of going RGB with Corsair.
Yes, it locks up when iCue is running and drops from the Dashboard. To resolve it I just shut down iCue, but I was not pleased with that as a solution. Going to try @billcipher534 recommendation. I am running 5.3 of iCue. And I just tested and that fixes it. Seems like a bug that Corsair needs to resolve.
Love this keyboard too using the 65 layout with the Home/End/Page Up/Page Down along the side. Would be great to know if it's possible to change out the OPX optical switch for Cherry as the OPX switch is a bit too sensitive for my liking as it's easy to accidentally press a key. Agree with you that I hate having to rely on my memory on how to use the keyboard to access certain features (e.g. FN+X to turn on the backlight) however if the list is short and easy to memorize, no complaint there. Also I notice that I cannot just use any USB C cable as the USB port is recessed. Would be cool if it's possible to easily mod the keyboard by adding a small lithium battery on the backside of the keyboard to power and use the 2.4 Ghz wireless dongle to make the keyboard wireless. How come Corsair/Elgato still does not support Linux? Would be great if the official iCUE is supported for Linux rather than relying on community to develop unofficial iCUE replacement (e.g. ckb-next) to make the keyboard work on Linux.
You can swap the switches out to Gateron Gen 1 optical switches or something similar like Skyloong's opticals. It is hot swappable but the switches are a very tight fit. If you do it, be very careful with putting any pressure on the plate, it bends very easily and that can mess up the optical switch's alignment.
@@Pepper_PHDThanks for the details. Don't think I'll bother modding the keyboard at this time as it just take some time getting used to the sensitivity of the optical switches. I've added a USB extension cable to work with the original USB cable that came with keyboard so it's more comfortable from a distance when gaming on a TV. Wrapping up the cable is a bit of a pain when putting away the keyboard. I tried the retractable USB cable but it doesn't go far enough. I realized that the USB-C port on the keyboard is recessed so cannot easily plug in any USB-C cable including the retractable cable. In other words, I'd have to modify the recessed USB-C port by making it bigger so I can make it work with third-party USB-C cable\ and/or adapter. Not sure why Corsair decided that it was a good idea to use a recessed USB-C port unless they wanted us to use their proprietary cable.
The only reason I'm not buying this now is because they left one of the ctrl buttons off the right side of the keyboard and all my keycaps I bought for my other ones would be out of place. I know I'm being finicky about it but I just can't buy it now even though it looks like a really good keyboard
They aren't listening well enough. Make it hot swappable already. No reason to not have it to where i can change my switches. I also feel like they should factory lube the switches and stabs.
No one is really saying it but this keyboard IS hot swappable. The switches are really tight fit but can be removed and swapped with Gen 1 Gateron Optical switches. Careful with putting any pressure on the plate though, it's fairly thin and can bend easily. That can mess up the spacing between the plate and pcb and ruin the optical switch's actuation. I bent the bottom left corner of mine and the left ctrl was constantly self registering a keypress. I had to cut the center post off the bottom of the switch so only the stem would poke through to hit the laser. Stabs definitely needed work or replacement.
Personally i would love if they just added a bezel like the k65, honestly this looks like a gmmk 2 design, well keyboard deisgns can be the same so that would be ignore. Its just the BEZEL.
