Yes! I really hope he gives it a chance at some point. For the longest time I had only seen TNG and Voyager and thought no Trek could be better than TNG until I finally got around to DS9 when it came to Netflix. Now I would argue DS9 is the better show.
That bit where Riker was like "We can't go back" was terrifying imagining that the Borg had assimilated most of the Alpha Quadrant, imagine what kind of hellscape that would be, think it constitutes a bit more than a bit of pressure lmao. The fact that the Enterprise was still going too indicated they'd have to have fled from trying to save so many worlds including Earth, big yikes.
The mental image of Worf punching someone in the face and them lifting them up and throwing them across the room because of how irritating they are is hilarious
I dont often comment but i can legit say that the strange new world series feels like the most "star trek" series since tng or voyager legit "star adventure" instead of war trek or (not connected) "star wars"
Awww I loved the new episodes, it’s got the same structure as TOS, my favourite rendition. The first episode does take a bit to start as it would rely Discovery too much to tell you the central themes if they didn’t spend time telling us what happened. The second episode is a comet episode so it’s a given that it’s good.
So I hadn’t seen discovery and I actually really enjoyed not knowing what was going in regard to pike. I was actually kind of disappointed when they just came out and explained it but then it made sense when I found out it was discovery.
Of the new Star Trek line up, I think lower decks has been the best. I haven’t seen strange new worlds but lower decks feels much more Star Trek to me than Picard or Discovery.
Strange New Worlds is back to being Star Trek. The first episode is ok and sets the scene and characters adequately but episode two takes us back to good old weird aliens and scenarios in an episodic format. The characters are strong and sympathetic, the acting is good and the story seems like a return to form from the, quite honestly, pure horse shite of Picard and Discovery. Long may it continue but it does sort of make me angry that if they were capable of this all along what have they been doing for the last twenty years.
When Sisko interacts with Q he decks him. DS9 is a very different show. Duet, In the pale moonlight, It's only a paper moon, Far beyond the stars, Necessary evil, the die is cast, etc, etc. There are some real stinkers, looking at you Prophet and Lace, but DS9 goes places that TNG never did.
Definitely don't need to see MOST of the TNG movies, but First Contact is a must. "But why does the Enterprise look so different?" Don't worry about it, Tom. It's gone. Don't ask, just... it's gone.
Strange New Worlds has been really strong so far, compared to Discovery and Picard. Would def. recommend SNW if DSC and/or PIC put you off on "New" Trek.
Personally, I'd disagree with the statement "most of it's crap" in regards to DS9 (I know Ben was just saying that offhandedly, though). I think that a lot more of DS9 is good compared to TNG.
moral of the story from Tapestry: Even the bad things that happen in our lives make us who we are today and going back in time to change those things could lead to a version of yourself you wouldn't like. Don't be hasty to condemn the bad things cause the alternative may be worse. Nowadays, they wouldn't ever do this moral. They would assume that whatever bad thing happened to someone in their past should be changed and everything is great afterwards. They would be like "lets go back in time and murder people cause environmentalism and racism!"
@@matthewa.seibert1809 Season 2 of Picard setup a fictional, future and the solution was to go back in time and fix it. @@willdazey7368 That's... not what I meant. I was referring to Picard coming to terms with his trauma and accepting it, even making sure events would unfold the way he remembered rather than trying to avert them.
@@matthewa.seibert1809 ah, there are so many plot threads I wasn't sure what exactly you were referring to and thought you were referring to the overarching plot of "fixing" the past because the future is terribly racist and xenophobic. The plot with Picards mother is similar, but pretty different. Its more about Picard forgiving his father, who he held responsible, learning the truth of his mothers mental illness, and accepting his childhood trauma (dumb imo). There was no decision, or growth, or understanding. There was discovery of truth, which is very different to growth.
Honestly, Tom would enjoy DS9 WAAAAYYY more than TNG.
Definitely

Someone should clue him in on Worf becoming part of the DS9 crew and having an arc with Gowron later in the show. He loves those guys.
@@FixtaFernback he is a star trek nerd now. So he will. Eventually
Mostly since the worst of ds9 is better than an average tng episode
Tom should watch DS9. DS9 is literally everything he would love in a Star Trek show. I think he would fucking love it.

I will very much miss these Tom & Ben _Star Trek_ rambles as soon as Tom finishes his binge.

Can Tom Watches DS9 be a funding goal
Never watched any Star Trek but I love these videos

Enterprise wasn't too bad, but I do feel pretty optimistic about SNW.
@@RedSntDK enterprise started out well but devolved into modern action save the day story soon after. was still entertaining though
The orville was a perfect star trek show
I need this as a series. Just go through all of TNG, from the beginning and break down your vague remembrances.

Ben misses the central theme of the first episode here, which is that I like Picard

Red Letter media have changed.....
You have no idea how much I longed to see this thumbnail on a new video ... and I've never watched anything Star Trek in my life.
Hah the I was only following orders part was hilarious!
I unapologetically love Star trek Enterprise. Well the first 3 seasons anyway.
Tooooom and Beeeen! The best yogs of Historryy!
Honestly, they could be improving everything they say about Star Trek and I wouldn’t be able to tell.
I hope Tom watches other star trek show :( I love the catch ups and was sad when they missed it for the couple of months
half a fucking hour. amazing

Any time i see a Star Trek update, all i can see is Tom kinda hating 95% of anything he ever watches in TV or film.
The only series I actually watched was DS9. I didn't like TNG or the original, but enjoyed a lot of DS9.
We do actually call it Yellow Cake in America, not sponge cake.

As with a lot of Star trek: Just go with it
What!? Ben doesn't like strange new worlds!? What!!!?
Even Enterprise is more watchable than the new ones.
Parallels sounds similar to spiderman

I'm surprised Tom didn't remember the end of Lower Decks. Most of the episode is kinda bleh but the ending is a real punch in the dick.

I swear that Sub Rosa episode, whenever I see TNG on tv it always seems to be this terrible episode.
Don't watch Discovery or Picard. They're just trash, frankly. They feel like fanfics written by teenagers who've never actually watched Star Trek.
