What an episode to end it on for the year.
Spoiler warning (in case anyone reads the comments first).
That twist on Chris's first one and the subsequent reactions was priceless.
I'm going to miss this show. But then I missed citation needed up untill you started with this one, so I'm looking forward to what ever comes next!
Happy New Year!
I still miss citation needed, and mystery biscuits
@@jessicamenschel6775 I'd like to see a return of Mystery Biscuits for good answers/plays in whatever happens next.
doing holiday emergency tech support... our department has had 5 calls so far today... just got back from the vet with bad news this morning. very happy to have this to watch, CN/TOTPAL is one of my warmest happiest places.
This is the best episode ever. Ending the show format with a bang.
Napoleon slept threw the bang
I love how while Matt is losing it, Gary is staring at Chris speechless and with supreme admiration
I love Gary's expression at 8:11 as he's in awe whilst realizing just how far Chris is willing to go to make this happen.
"Tell me more about this dragon" was the perfect setup for something else
If there was ever a time for a mystery biscuits button on TOTPAL, it's here. Chris wins them all, no more biscuits, ever. I wasn't sure if he'd be able to top piggy backing off Gary's sweaty column/Viking graffiti from prior, but he did.
He deserves more than that; he deserves an imaginary prize consisting of a verbose pun.
It's nice that they gave up the pretense of helping Tom find out who is lying again, so quickly too
The last time I was this early, I didn't yet have a favorite Gary Brannan.
My favorite game was still the one where it was "two of these people are telling the truth" (about the Hagia Sofia), and Tom still lost
I thoroughly enjoyed this series while working and playing these at the background... I really want this to continue
I really wish this would keep going, it is quite possibly the greatest series on youtube.
still hoping this format is brought back one day for a few more episodes... :)
If this is truly the last, then that is sad, but at least we got one more than I thought we would. For Two Of These People Are Lying is a treasure.
Well, that should sort the April 1st video. Bring along the culprit, too. He could do with some working vacation.
Also, Happy New Year, thanks for all the fun so far, and hoping for much more
I'm just fascinated by the amount of fire extinguishers in there...
Not knowing who Allan Bennett is I thought Matt was saying a play written by "I'll invent it" and making it into a "reasonable name"
My thoughts exactly. Their laughter was contagious though, so I still found it funny.
honestly this was the most chaotic episode yet and there have been a lot of episodes and a lot of chaos
The color-coded subtitles are amazing!
I'm honestly surprised it took this long to create a dedicated channel
@@liam4686 I'm talking about a Tech Diff channel
They attempted to create the channel earlier. It just never worked right because they experienced some technical difficulties.
I love how your captions have colors for the different speakers. It really helps to keep the different speakers straight.
Congrats to the person who cited this episode on the Plot of the Rue Saint Nicaise Wikipedia article
I thought Chris was making the plot up because of one fact I'm surprised Tom didn't pick up on: In 1801, there was no Emperor Napoleon, he wasn't crowned Emperor until 1804.
You'd think so, but then Tom suggested Napoleon would've been wearing a tricorne hat.
I think Tom had already stopped listening for facts at that point.
Me seeing the notification for this video come out, thinking the Christmas Special was a one-off: "This is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one."
I think it was a one-off recording session for them, but they recorded more than 1 episode. Let's hope there was enough material for another one!
@@korenn9381
There was enough material for exactly two episodes.
YOOOOO! Love this format bois, great game. Sad to see it go but I'm excited to see what replaces it!
I thiiink they are keeping the format switching the channel since this channel is specifically Matt and Tom and doesn't credit poor Chris or The one and only Gary.
@@axolotllan
They’re thinking of other formats I think. I assume all four will be (have been) given admin access to the new channel, but that it will mostly be managed by Tom and Matt, maybe Gary a little bit, and Chris hardly at all.
@@ragnkja I just meant I don't think the lying game is gone just that the channel name is readjusting to account for it being fourway activities not just matt and tom on a park bench etc...
@@axolotllan
No, Tom said it might be the final episode ever, as they’re thinking of trying new stuff.
@@axolotllan
Read the pinned comment.
9:12 I love that Gary's captions grow larger and larger
11:36 ("Giggle loop resumes") is my new year's wish 2022 for us all
The moment Chris said (4:55) Christmas and New Year I knew it had to be him. It's the bloody New Year's episode!
It's November.
Matt and Tom having their shirts coordinated to their tinsel and subtitles while Chris wears yellow but it's Gary who has the yellow tinsel/subtitles is absolutely doing my head in
Nevertheless, the captions and attention to detail is much appreciated :)
We finally got it. They're all lying. Happy New Years.
Chris wasn't lying, he was telling the truth. (about lying)
Seriously, guys.
This was a great show. You gotta bring it back.
Tom Scott retired from RUclips.
@@xNathan2439xyea but he is still doing content for fun so this could possibly come back
@@xNathan2439x he literally does weekly videos
Thank you for making these videos. You guys served me as company through the pandemic, and I'm having a rough time with covid just now so this couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you for this, cheers
Season 1 Chris mentioned the possibility of all 3 of them lying and mentioned needing to remember that.
Looks like it paid out
It's been fantastic to see Tech Dif back together again and these two specials were hilarious, sad to see TOTPAL go but I'm excited to see what's coming next!
I have absolutely lost it to both videos for this season. I may go back through the entire series, always great.
It was absolutely brilliant. Thinking this one might be my favourite but now that doesn't seem fair to all the other brilliant episodes. Will have to rewatch just to make sure ;D
Literally an hour after this went up, I checked the Wikipedia for Plot of the rue Saint-Nicaise, and in the popular culture section, it mentions that the article was in this video!
I really liked this series and citation needed, I was genuinely more upset when they stopped the series’s than I was when firefly was cancelled
I'm afraid Nicaise is pronounced nik'aɪz
Not a complain by any means, I just happen to live somewhat close to a Rue Nicaise and was surprised to learn how many there are in Europe after looking this one up
In a strange turn of events, the street itself no longer exists (destroyed in 1853), which led to many French to forgot this was even named "the plot of the rue Saint-Nicaise", instead it is best known as "La machine infernale", the biggest farce in assassination attempt history (France history at least)
I wondered if it was actually the "rue Saint Niçaise" but they couldn't find the cedille on the label printer. Thanks for clearing that up!
Chris Joel, the master of things that never happened.
I can't stop laughing!! - That beats "Not even the real Abbot" and "Down a bit from Tromso" by a factor of 10GigaGiggles! - You made 2021 a much better year than it was just few minutes ago!! Techdif is BACK!!! Thank you guys!!
Happy New Year!!!

@@oz_jones Thanks for language care, I knew there was a diameter symbol, yet again if you're right then Techdif isn't. Shall we gave them two extra views on this episode just to appreciate "The Mighty Four" who saved thousands from depression during lockdowns?
When Matt said the same thing as Chris I hoped they were all talking about the same article
Alan Bennett (the real Alan Bennett, not the fictional French one) wrote The Madness of George III, so I don't think a play about the plot to assassinate Napoleon is as unlikely as Tom seems to think it is.
I just watched a video about Gary’s job as an archivist at the University of York. It made me think if he has ever had interest in taking advantage of Tom’s connection to Brady Heron to do an Objectivity video. I know Objectivity is typically about artifacts in the hard sciences, but I’m sure there’s room in the fan base for the arts, humanities, and historical artifacts in Gary’s archive.
On the new channel they should create a playlist containing all there previous videos from the group that were posted here and toms channel
*SPOILERS*
On the moment Chris revealed that his town was a lie I've had a flashback to one of the earlier episodes where Tom thought everybody was lying and Chris said "Let's save that one for later".
Mr Joel, you are a mastermind.
I'm so glad we got the 'all of these people are lying' that was teased early on in the series! If that didn't happen eventually I was gonna be *so* sad at the mised opportunity. Sad to see this format go, but looking forward to what you're doing next!
Matt's second round answer has such "Your name is Hilda Hilda and you live on 22 Hilda Street AND 22 Hilda Avenue?" energy.
Man, I know Tom doesn’t really like April Fools Jokes, but that first one sounds like a great april fools joke to do.
I missed the technical difficulties, glad for more content
This is by far the best episode yet, the sheer amount of pissdickery going on is astounding
Absolutely love this series, haven't watched any tech dif for 2 years till it came up in my feed then I binged them the other week.
Keep it up guys can't wait to see more
Not knowing who Alan Bennett was, I swear I heard "A-Long Bonnet", as an allegory to Napoleon's hat. It was only until I read the subtitles (which are magnificent, thanks Tom!), that I understood what was being said.
I can't give this episode more than one like, but this was fantastic. :D "Ceci n'est pas une pipe"
The cinematic parallels of Chris winning the last one of these after refusing to win the last citation needed
Such a Chris move.
I just wanna say thank you for this timing. The first one reminded me how good the series is, I binge watched every episode, and JUST when I ran out, this was released :)
I’m just a tiny bit annoyed that Tom and Matt’s tinsel towers are color coded to their shirts, but the Gary and Chris’s colors are swapped.
been rewatching this series for the last 2 weeks. very nice.
9:07 Brillant captioning of Gary there! XD
discoverd this series few days ago absolutely loving it
