    These videos are great. I recently purchased a 1998 Kodiak to use for plowing my driveway. As it is 23 years old, I knew it would need some work. These videos are a great source of information for the do it yourself type mechanic.

    What would cause my starter to grind really bad when it worked fine before valve job, tiny weird noise from recoil too.

      I can tell you what I found on mine. It sounded like a spoon in a blender when starting. 1. Broken/shaved tooth on the starter itself. 2. Broken tooth on the first gear the starter gear turns. 3. Bad one-way bearing behind the flywheel. Replaced all of those and now it sounds perfect when starting.

    Finally opened her up and got to the flyingwheel. The locking key is missing. I see the groove but the key doesn't stick out at all. need to get the flywheel puller to get it out and see behind it...

    This might be a dumb question but what is the "f" letter for under that little inspection plug??

    • @wheelerdealer9085
      @wheelerdealer9085 Месяц назад

      “Fire” for when the spark plug ignites and ignition timing

    Aren't you supposed to adjust the adjustment head with a flathead screwdriver and then tighten the lock nut?

  • @Sean-Aviation

    Carb cleaned, rebuilt, valves adjust, unit looks neat, fuel tank cleaned, all checked but it doesn't start. it backfires badly. Can it be the timing chain tensioner?

      @@MidNebraskaMotorsports I found the issue. after many hours working on the ATV inspecting everything. when I adjusted the valves, i replayed on the TDC T mark on the flywheel, HOWEVER, when opening the sprocket cover it was way off. Then i went ahead and inspected the piston position in respect to the sprocket indentation.. it was spot on but the flywheel TDC T mark was none existent! That tells me the sprocket is correct, chain is tight, valves are at the top piston at the top BUT flywheel had shifted? could it be the locking key sheared off? i think i need to open up the crankcase and check the flywheel!? ....rrrrrr

    2nd time I've stripped mine down will start but no fuel reaction at all just idles. New carb, coil, plug, stator, plug is fouling out. My window for timing is on side of case after yiu pop off pull start. Got it lined up on T. On upper sprocket theres a big white paint blob hard to tell exactly where that should line up. There's also a factory dot imprinted on the uppet metal sprocket. Could that actually be where my timing alignment is ? Neither the dot or blob line up when lower is on T ?
