It is recommended that you replace your cabin air filter every 10,000 - 15,000 miles or once a year. However, you may want to replace or change the cabin filter in you Ford Mustang more often if:
-You or a frequent passenger suffers from allergies or has other respiratory problems

This video hits the nail right on the head. I saw another video with the same title but 14 minutes long and I was like hellll no
Great! We do try to keep the videos as short as possible
dude i just spent like 20 minutes in the shop today contorting myself on the floorboard i didn't even know you could get it from this angle, now i can actually profit from these installs lol. thank you 🙏🏼
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
To the point dude, nice. Told me the tool size, where the screw was and everything. Good shit
Glad it helped!
Very helpful. 👍 Thanks for doing this. Ridiculous that a torx or any tool is required. Silly Ford engineers.
Just like every video I watch on youtube
"3 minutes video, ah this is going to be quick"
And the actual work takes me about 5 times as long
Be glad you learned something. Maybe with practice you’ll do it faster now.
I just dropped off my car at ford service for recall and they called me for change my air cabin filter which is $180 and I just watched that and save a lot of money , thanks man
You're Welcome!
They just told me 133! Yup saved me a lot as well!
180$, fucking A 😂
I knew you had a 2020 the moment I saw the "55 years of Mustang" badge. Very helpful, thanks.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
I have never performed any car maintenance on my own. With this video I was able to successfully change my cabin air filter. Thank you.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Good video I just replaced mine. Two sticking points for me for one the torx screw is vertically oriented so you have to kind of go up into it not directly at it horizontally which was a pain but I did it by hand and figured it out second putting a new filter in is awkward you have to kind of roll it up put it in and then feed it from the back first towards the front and then after you get about a third and it’ll slide right in otherwise awesome video dude thanks
Wow this was easier than I thought. Now I can replace it myself 😁
Yes!
Thanks for this - my dealer wanted $155 to do this ($93 of which is labor). It took me only about 15 minutes, but the hardest part was working in such a small space. Definitely more difficult than changing the filter on any Honda or Acura I've ever owned - those just had an access door in the back of the glove box. 30 seconds with those!
Great. Simple video. Thank you. Keep them coming.
Thanks!
Great video. Short and to the point. Thank you so much !!
You're Welcome!
Thanks for the tutorial man, great help.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Amazing! Thank you😎 just changed mine right now!!!
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
This is the only video on how to take out the filter , really appreciate it my filter was trashed when I took it out
Glad it helped!
@@Toridog1220 I don't really remember it being an issue but I'm sure I used a magnetic screwdriver/bit
When you replaced the filter did it have a musty smell? My car smells like that I’m thinking it’s the cabin filter
@@Toridog1220I agree . I just used a piece of tape.
Perfect and to the point! Thank you for doing it
You're Welcome!
Quick and thorough, thanks!
You're Welcome!
Thanks! Got the filter for about 30$ saved me the extra 100$ from having to go to ford!❤
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Just what I needed👍🏼
Glad it helped!
Leave it to Ford to need a torx bit. Whatever happened to simple plastic clips and no other tools needed?
Seems like the newer Fords get the more complicated everything gets. We joke at work about how the engineers are doing it to mess with people.
It's not just Fords. Chevy does it too
You’re worried about a torx bit, I’m wondering why everyone makes curved housings for flat filters.
just another way to et people to pay someone else to do this simple job
Subscribed just for this. Super simple and saved me $70.
Thanks!
Very good Video.
Thanks!
Thank you for a great video I just got the cabin air filter done in 10 minutes 🙏
Nice! You're Welcome!
Quick and easy. Great video
Thanks!
What is the purpose to remove this filter?
Just returned to like this video, installed the new filter and could never have done it as quickly or easily without this excellent video (especially the reference to airflow, I might have missed that). I bought my car in April 2021 with 4 miles on the odometer and was surprised how dirty the filter is in 2.5 years/18K miles.
Glad it helped!
I don't understand how the filter fits back into the thing. I can't get it in to even slide it back up into the slot despite it being the exact same filter and part number that the previous filter was.
That what's up got me to like 👍
Appreciate it!
I just changed my filter and figured out right away to go from underneath the dash, to remove and install the filter. Don't try pulling the filter out of the glovebox opening, pull it straight down and out. You can also get to the screw with no problem, too. All you will need to do is look through the flap after you get the glove box lid out of the way.
-BILL
It was a pain the arse to get back in even coming up from the bottom
You saved me $110 😊. Thank you so much.
You're Welcome!
thx man
Welcome!
Found it easier to do everything with glovebox closed and access it by the foot well . Just a thought. Thanks for the video!
Completely agree with comment
indeed
Hey thanks for the excellent demonstration. Not bad at all and saved some $$ not having Ford install it.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Thanks bro. You just save me 70 bucks
Glad I could help
Its funny cuz i fixed my ac evap core last year, and saw the old ass filter and i was like nah ill change it later shoulda done it then when it was all apart 😂😂
T20 star bit 👍🏻
Correct! A number 20 Torx bit (T20)
Please tell me the tools that you used to remove the screw cause im stuck in that part for an hour
Fantastic video, dude. My local shop wanted 100 bucks plus the cost of the filter
Glad it helped!
$100 That's crazy it's a 10 minute job lmao just changed mine after 42k miles it was way past due my filter was filled with leaves and dirt, I'm going to try to change it every 10k miles max from now on
@@Frankgonzalez-hj7bm thats rather unnecessary. Owners manual states every 20,000 miles for the cabin air filter and 30,000 miles for the engine air filter
What happens if you leave the screw out after installing the new filter? Seems like the cover has a snap in place feature anyway.
For some reason the filter door was such a pain to put back on
I’m dying in my garage right now trying to put it back on.
@@JLynchJr86lol
@@JLynchJr86the two tabs getting them back in so I could close it.
Damn, our Rav4 is also in the glove box
Open and close it in two seconds
Great video. Would you be able to make a video of where the Cowl drains are on for 2015+ Mustang GTs?
I will definitely keep that in mind next time I have access to one of these.
@@PYR-Auto thanks man!
@@ManchesterUtdFan did you ever find them?
Thanks for the video! I had trouble fitting the filter in from the bottom and it got bunched up in some areas. Is it safe to assume it went back to its original shape once it's in the housing? It was flush at the bottom when I replaced the plate but I don't know how you would confirm that without pulling it out again.
Yeah, they kind of expand back to where they need to be - as long it was flush on the bottom you should be fine
I do appreciate the video BUT what a PAIN. It’s very easy to drop the T 20 screw. To put in the new filter you have to crunch it to get it in there. TERRIBLE design by FORD. I used a piece of tape in the front to hold the flap. That works.
Done✔️
Nice!
I’m wanting to know why and when you should replace this? Like how would I know it needs to be replaced?
I usually just go off how dirty the filter looks as to when to replace them but it is generally recommended to replace them every 15,000 miles or about once a year
It's looks easy while seeing the video, but the whole thing is a bear on that cramped space. C'mon Ford, you could have designed it better
my dealer changed it as part of a scheduled maintenance package and now there is no air coming out of vents .... 2021 gt
Even if the filter was installed upside down or not at all air should still blow out of the vents so there may be other issues
Sweet! I definitely needed this video 😂😂😂 every time I start the car and the a/c is on, I get the smell of Vinegar lol. Now I know how to change the filter 😂. You can suck it Ford🖕 and your 60 dollar routine maintenance charge or whatever it is😂😂😂😂.
After how long should we change this filter?
it is generally recommended to replace cabin filters every 15k miles or once a year but I usually just go off of how they look
What is the name of the special screwdriver ?
# 20 torx bit (T20)
How do I know when to change my air filter?
I would recommend just taking a look at it to see how dirty it is
Thanks for saving me the $35 dollars that the dealer wanted to install this $15 filter it for me.
You're Welcome!
Having done it myself, the effort in that cramped space makes it seem kinda worth it. Though having done it once, the second time should be way easier.
Thanks! Super awkward having to pretty much roll up the filter to fit it into the tight space.
You welcome! Yeah it's a bit of pain
Is there any specific filter ?
Yes - you will need a cabin filter that specifically works for your vehicle. There are many different brands that will all work but the filter does need to be specifically for your year and model.
Once you get the old filter out good luck trying to get the new one back in, the space and angle is so cramp you really need to take a breather or two in between attempts. Make sure it goes straight like and arrow w/o crumbling out of shape. Whoever approved this design needs to get another job in some other area of expertise. Takes 2 minutes to do my wife's Honda.
Great video but goddammit this is a hard change.
Dealership wanted to charge me $100 for this 😂
Not surprised!
Nice they wanna charge $75 for this and the filter costs like $20 smh I’ll just do it myself.
Bad design by Ford. But thanks for the video.
Other cars are much easier to change the filter 🙈🙈
Yeah some are
Agreed!
Get ready to fight putting that filter in once you get it out. There’s not much space even coming up from the bottom. The filters are paper and want to bunch up.
It wasn't a big deal. 10 mins tops
let it get dirty. Who cares
