What is this game?
Silent Hill 2 is an upcoming psychological horror video game developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami. It is a remake of the 2001 game of the same name, originally developed by Team Silent, a group in Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (KCET). It will be the first major installment in the Silent Hill series since Silent Hill: Downpour (2012). Like the original game, it follows James Sunderland, a widower who returns to the eponymous town of Silent Hill upon receiving a letter from his deceased wife Mary, who claims to be waiting there for him.
The remake of the game was officially announced in October 2022 following months of speculation and leaks, and is the first game in an ongoing initiative by Konami to rejuvenate mainstream interest in the franchise, which had not seen a new major entry since the release of Silent Hill: Book of Memories (2012) and the subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills from former internal studio Kojima Productions. The remake is being led by Bloober Team creative director Mateusz Lenart, while it is being produced by Motoi Okamoto from Konami. Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka, who served as creature designer and composer for the original game respectively, will return to reprise their roles for the remake.
The game is set to be released on October 8, 2024 for the PlayStation 5 and Windows.

I got excited when I saw James wearing those funny costume heads until I realized they were in-game stuff. I was hoping for an actual physical figurine. Game looks neat all around.
Honestly I’m hoping it’s a sign they’ll still retain that kinda sense humor and fun the original had to an extent. Hoping the dog ending is back since we get his head!
I don’t think Angela’s eyebrows are the issue: it’s the fact that she looks low quality and her face looks swelled up. her voice doesn’t do her justice either she’s not bad but not the direction blooper should be going

The "softening" of the characters is my biggest concern.
How they looked, acted, and sounded were just as important as their backstorys.
Change any of those things, and the gane could suffer.

I can't get over Angela's voice in the remake.. she sounds like she smokes 2 packs of cigars a day.
I don't know if that's true, but some channels are saying that she's a Transwoman now, which explains.

I don't know how much it will change the difficulty of the game, but I feel like the combat is a bit to RE4 for my taste, I want it to feel like I'm a regular guy who murdered his wife with a pillow and now is in SH struggling cause I have no pillow.
The environment looks beautiful like in Downpour and I really can’t wait to play this.

I don't think I'd mind the remake if it was for the fact that it's litteraly impossible to legally play the original game without original hardware. Just feels like a history rewrite.
Marias Outfit really bothers me.
Her outfit is how James wants her to be.
She is supposed to be that, also it has to do with lore they took Inspiration from Christianity from Mother Mary and Maria,while one was a modest women and the mother of Jesus ,the other one was a former sex worker.
I got a feeling they have done that,because of the todays political woke agenda in terms of females.
But this is completly changing the view of Maria I hope they changed it ,if not the modders on PC will.
Honestly this is giving me a mix of the last of us part ll and the resident evil 4 remake which I love both of those games and I am super excited for this remake since I haven’t played the original. The only silent hill games I’ve played are the first one and the short message. I also hope if this does well, we will get remakes for Silent Hill 1,3,and 4
I just don't think Silent Hill 2 ever needed to be remade.. It would have been cool if they put all this effort into a new game. I want to like this but you can't recreate something like Silent Hill 2, it's more than just a game now.. and James doesn't look like James.. that's probably, for me, the most important thing to get right. Good luck to them though

I said this in some other videos, but my nitpick was me wishing that James would be a little panicked/clumsy/fearful when fighting in the early stages of the game. Then when we reach middle and end game, James is much more used to fighting now and acts like how we see him in the gameplay trailer (like how he dodges or the way he smashes the enemies a bit more aggresively now since he's used to it by this point).
I just think it adds a nice touch of realism/detail in the game, but I understand why it won't be able to make it in the game. Can't wait to play SH2R on October!

I am pleasantly surprised tbh, they improved quite a few things, the atmosphere is on point, the directing of the cutscenes is very well made ( especially that James and Laura scene, before James gets his feet fetish kink adressed xd ), the facial expressions are pretty decent too! I think that Silent Hill 2 deserved a more grandiose Remake but I have no doubt Bloober Team is making everything they can and I´m hyped! This trailer was a pretty solid 7.5/10 for Me.

I have a lot of criticisms. I can see all the good but here's my thing:
I feel as though they should have gone harder to make it as one to one as possible. Between character's outfits and appearences. If they're too lazy to make something new, at least put in the effort to make a faithful remake. From Maria's clothes to Angela's appearence and voice to Jame's appearence and voice. I'm talking on the levels of the Modern Warfare remake. As a horror game by itself, it looks great. But as a "remake" for Silent Hill 2, I think it's pretty bad.
Also Silent Hill itself just feels so flat. I realize that you can see a lot more because the fog is not as thick but that was literally the point of the original Silent Hill. To be this fog that is so thick you can barely even see 10 feet ahead of you. I loved that and it added to this surrealness that Silent Hill 2 had. I feel like with all these companies that make these remakes don't actually try to stay faithful to the original matieral, it frustrates me.

The new trailer and gameplay footage for SH2R have me much more optimistic (if even cautiously so) for this title. It looks fantastic, though I still hope it gets some polish on some of the models, textures, and animations (especially the character mouths syncing better with the dialogue) -- but the look and feel of the the SH "world" is great. I have no doubt that the sound design and music will be excellent as well, with Akira Yamaoka's involvement after all. And I think Angela looks fine -- sure they ought to work on refining the detail of her facial features and character model, but she's supposed to be 19 years old, so to me she looks more her age here than in the original, even if she is a bit doughy. I'm pretty sure Bloober Team adapted the voice actors' faces a bit into the character models, hence the variations in appearance. The real question that remains to me is, how faithful will Bloober Team be to the story/tone/subject matter/psychology/mythology/etc. of the original SH2? As an old fan of the early Silent Hill titles, and a horror game enjoyer, I'll be picking this up anyway -- I'm excited and eager for 10/8.
I didn't hear you mention the jump from fixed to follow cameras, I was curious about your thoughts on that? Follow camera had a lot of artistic merit IMO.

I'm mad that Angela's digital face looks like it has no emotion and the voice does not match the face. It's bad work.
The voice actor also sounds completely uninterested. Like a teenager who's annoyed because she's doing a role she doesn't like.

The og game practically had a huge-ass prompt where the whole game froze for a while everytime you'd collect something, so I don't think that's really an issue. Would've loved to see something more in the footsteps of the original tho, with that classic item pickup sound. Nevertheless, glad to see that the team has really listened for the criticism, overall looks like they're really going to the right direction with this. Just a bit more polish to some of the animations, character models and possibly the game could be just a tiny notch darker imo and we just might have something very special here.

In my country, the game is priced at 34$ in steam, which is cheap, but im not sure if i buy it now before they change the price

a theory of mine is that it's the voice actor or actresses face just slightly modified. as the little girl looks like she has a adults face and both james and maria look a bit like their voice actors. it was more noticeable with james before they changed his face a bit. it can't really be proven completely, until we see what the voice actress of angela looks like. The short. lazy or pressed for time.
I think they nailed the fog, it was going to be a big make or break for me. Hopefully the environments are a little darker in normal gameplay and just brightened up to show off their work for the trailer.
The thing, that's bugging me the most is, that there's no physical deluxe edition. Otherwise I share your opinion. I'm excited for this game.

I’m hoping there’s something in the sense of a physical collector’s edition cause that’s a huge missed opportunity. Instead of statue just bundle the Mira the dog plushie. That aside I don’t really care of Angela’s redesign like you said it’s her story that matters more, and as long that’s still intact that’s fine. This has been the only PlayStation game I’ve been excited for, and I’m hoping it comes out good.

I can say that they did a good job recreating Silent Hill here. Even the monsters are well made, and the character models are good (except for Angela). I just wish they would brought the fixed camera angle.

It just looks and feels wrong at every level. The original feeling of the game is not preserved, and it's overall weaker.
There are many things I could point out, like how every character's face looks wrong and they didn't even bother to reflect the original inspirations behind the cast's character designs, but something that depresses me especially intensely is the sound design of the monsters. The lying figures and nurses are both now constantly making these gurgling and snarling and whining noises, when in the original game they didn't vocalize unless they were getting hit or taking specific actions. All you could hear was the movement of their distorted bodies. The understated silence of the monsters gave them a sense of foreboding, like there was some unknowable will behind them. It separated them from natural creatures attacking for animalistic reasons. Now they just seem like goons that can't help but spew out noises. It's a big shame, because the monster animation work looks fine, even great in places.
Not just broad creative decisions like that, but even the details are off. Somehow, the lying figure still has its iconic inorganic screech, but it doesn't play when it's slithering along the ground... Why would you change that??? The nurses were almost always backed by strong ambient BGM in the original game, but that's entirely absent here, too, leaving you stuck with their weak new sound design. Sound design really is so so so so so so important to the game.
There are plenty of things that are like "fine" or even "this looks nice" in a general sense. The town looks good; if this had been an entirely new game, I'd have even praised it. But it's not an entirely new game. It's a distortion piggy-backing off of something that already existed and was good in and of itself. So I can't accept it. I've really come to hate remakes...

Im honestly very excited for this game and beat believe im buying nd streaming this day one. I damn near nutted when they showed more of the game. I was hoping they would give info on Silent Hill F but I'll take what they showed. People on facebook are whining like children who couldnt get a toy they wanted from the store. It makes me kinda hate being a fan of this series cause these "fans" are never satisfied with shit!
Maria’s outfit doesn’t give her good characterisation tho and usually I’m against sexualisation but in Maria’s case I think Maria being sexualised is essential for her character so I think they just made her more modest to pander to modern gamer sensibilities even tho it doesn’t match her at all
I agree, her original outfit suited her character more for sure. Perhaps my phrasing made it seem I didn't like the old//preferred the new.
In any case, I'd be interested in hearing why they'd make that change.
@@SilentHillside the old outfit wasn't even that bad compared to what other games were out at the time. Final Fantasy X being a prime example for both female AND male characters(Tidus).

The new outfit isn't something that Mary will use, so I don't see the problem.
It is essential for her character and I think its been changed by the sweet baby inc culture currently infecting game developers
I’d like to stand on your hill and add to the angela stance. In the original yea she looked older….. but that the thing, looked…older…. Pretty sure when I read the manual later on she was like 18-19yrs old and I was like wtf haha. So if we take the age into account with them trying to be true the originals in regards, then I’d say they are doing angels better justice now portray her as a young adult still growing and “filling” out. I mean how many of us made of ourselves or friends looking wayyyyyy different pre-early 20s in age.

This Transmission renewed my confidence in the Remake. Bloober has proven they can nail the environment, ambience, and performances from the actors. Now I just need to see them refine the combat (make it preferable to avoid combat, but still satisfying to engage in) and storytelling (showing, not telling). If they can do that, then I would be confident in giving them my money and saying that they’ve succeeded in a quality remake. I can tell they’re pouring a LOT of love into this, they just need to continue doing what they’re doing and refine it!

James most probably will have a quick equip screen like the RE remakes, they just need to make it flow naturally with the game, not just copying from somewhere.

I don't like Maria's new clothes because it doesn't fit the narrative, there's a reason she was dressed the way she was. Sex wasn't the only thing James wanted but it was part of it. I'm also very afraid of the alternate world because they have barely shown it. I think we got a glimpse with the abstract daddy and it looks way different. The alternate world in SH2 is very subdued compared to sh1 and not even close to the horrific hellscape we had to endure in sh3. No bleeding walls, heat effects ect should be there.
Angela looks terrible I really hope those horrible jump cuts are just for the trailer but even so the tone is all wrong maybe its on purpose to move it away from the twin peaks style for modern audiences? But the original tone and atmosphere are what makes a Silent Hill game for me

The trans Jawline on Angela is the only complaint I have about it.
Looks and feels like Downpour, not like Silent Hill. A small post office is more in line with a small town. Many of the points are not addressed here at all. The all encompasing weirdeness is not present, because of how normal it looks lie. One of the key elements of the atmosphere of real games is that places, dialogues, characters, placement of items is out of place. Unordinary to say at least. James looks like an emo with his constantly concerned face. Dialogues are spoke like in a category Z cheap soap opera. Maria isn't weird at all. Just an ordinary modern liberal woman. The hellish look of her in cinematic when she sits behind the bars "Do you mistake me with somebody else?" can give you chills. There's no David Lynch in here. No mystery. Modern = dumb icons that notice a player he can interact with an object. Thanks that devs that you let me INVESTIGATE case of my dead wife for myself. Hurted James not only hold his side, but there has to be dumb red vignette, because modern player won't check his inventory without it. It reminds me a case from Ghost of Tsushima, when each time I opened menu I was REMINDED with an information bubble that I can develope my techniques, when I didn't wanted to. It looks like made for people who don't use brain matter at all. You not only can't get confused, but rest assured that you WON'T get confused in Silent Hill. The only remake that works, that is actually reimagining is Final Fantasy VII. For now. There are no other parts yet, so you can't be certain about end result. Yet it feels same and different at the same time. But even though FF VII is one of the greatest video game of all time, it's not a psychological horror where each thing was meticulously chosen for a certain reason. Its weight and impact it had on overal atmosphere of the location or situation. Here it's lost. In general it's targeted at MODERN audiences which doesn't need or want any challenge or depth from the product it CONSUMES. Well. People's taste dropped down quite spectacularly. Bet game is the one that doesn't make you think too much cuz it hurts. Give me a notification icon next to interactive object, a shiny silhouette over my enemy so I know where he is, or a quick time event so I don't have to mash frantically button in hope of survival.

Konami doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, so I'll probably remain pessimistic until the game is actually out. So far it looks okay, but just okay.

That's a lack of watching more movies, this guy is based on Dead awake, Stephen Baldwin. Leon is from Romeo and Juliet movie, Leo DiCaprio is Romeo, Claire Danes is Juliet.
Honestly, the trailer was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I loved the way everything looked, but then the little details were kind of a let down, like Mary no longer communicating with James through the radio when he finds it, or the tubes and holes in the Abstract Daddy arena being missing. Like yes, it's a very obvious symbolism, but it still needs to be there imo. Also, I agree with the comment about being able to instantly swap between weapons; it's a cool thing for an action game or Resident Evil, but the devs themselves said James isn't trained in combat (either melee or firearm), so this kind of mechanic contradicts their statement lol.
I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks after release before I buy the game just to be more informed about what changed and whether it was for better or worse. I'm more excited about the movie lmao.
Angela and Maria look horrid in the game imo. James did too then Bloober Team listened to the fanbase and made him look better. People arent making up stuff.

I would say they changed Maria's outfit due to the reason they changed Leon and Claire outfit in RE2 Remake. Probably feeling it was very 90s/early 2000s. I imagine they want a more modern day look for her, similar to how they removed James patches on his jacket in this one.
Overall It looks really good. I think the performance is what I am waiting on.

People seem to forget that in the original what people/developers can do were limited technology and graphics wise, plus back then there was so little they could do with appearances and expressions. Also, a lot can happen between now and October. I'm kinda hoping that Maria's original outfit is an unlockable achievement for completing the game at least once.
Limitation is the mother of creativity. If limited technology caused the creators to make a product that was more understated and therefore nuanced, where they had to squeeze every ounce of impact they could out of the details, then that's for the best. This new one is melodramatic, cringe, obnoxious, and loud in the places it should be ethereal, weird, subtle, and quiet. Also, you really shouldn't underestimate Takayoshi Sato's CGI skill; everything was the way it was meant to be in the original FMVs.
Well mixed emotions here as SH2 was my entry into the world of SH and ot had an ermous effect on me back in the day on the original Xbox. Imho James’ face is totally different and not that likeable as that skinny tortured Brian Adams face we got used to. Angela is a joke. Monsters look good, I am really curious about the atmosphere and how much of the OG game was censored (we all know what I mean here). I can’t wait but I am worried a bit.
All I saw was static and all I heard was a woman saying some kind of garbled nonsense. Probably won’t come back to haunt me later.

I feel uncomfortable of who ever is looking and caring about how that girl looks and ignoring her story. That isnt the purpose of her character is how pretty and dainty she needs to look because that is how it's sounding.
She looks the same to me. People get angry when gamer developers make characters look more human. I kid you not thats a lot of their complaints is that its "woke" culture to make a character look realistic when this game touches on very real topics why not make the characters look human?
You can tho critic things like telling story through character design like they did in the first game with maria's outfit. I can see Mary wearing that casually but mary and maria are suppose to be mirrors of eachother. Her design doesnt indicate that she's any different personality wise?

On top of the fact that no one had an outfit change but her and that feels again weird to me. I hope its not to make james more likeable lol when we dont need that ? Its suppose to be conflicting to like james because this maria with how she presents herself is the maria he wishes he had. More fun to be around and looking like she woke up at 3pm in the afternoon everyday with smudged makeup to party again the next day. I don't like the fact that they've re-written parts. They're awful writers. That business with Angela saying "tell him I'll be good" etc is extremely cliche and it has me worried. I'm mainly gonna be playing to explore the new looking town, though. That's all I'm after with this remake. They can't come close to my experience with the original story since I've already played it, so that's already a foregone loss in my eyes even if they do a good job, which they won't.
It's also too bright. There's no point in the torch.
