the crowd is not dead lol. this style of music is called qawali and qawali is a type of music to praise god so when a performer is singing this type of music, the crowd stays quiet and respectfully appreciates the performance rather than cheering.

Javed Ali is actually VERY VERY VERY underrated, in this era of Jubin and others we forgot this gem, his vocal texture is very unique, the frisk and husk is too good. ♥️😍

Hey Justine! I love your reactions so much. You have to understand this thing....Indian music is not just about music and expression.
The traditions of Indian music go back to centuries and that was not meant to be a performance but as a way of meditation.
So that's why you would never see an Indian audience going crazy over such songs.
Would you cheer or clap near a person who is meditating? Absolutely not.
The singer is not trying to be the best performer at the stage or looking for claps and whistles. He is just trying to uplift his and the audience's soul to the absolute heights.
That's what you see in the whole scene.
Next time when you see the audience 'DEAD', just remember they are actually living the epitome of human consciousness.

I think we Indian have kind of a habit to not go so loud in the middle of the performance we show our appreciation after the performance is done as to not distract the performer and also to listen better like I remember growing up whenever my mom used to watch these musical tv competitions or live performance and me and my sister starts to talk to eachother she used to get so mad like if you are not going to listen let other people listen and enjoy do not interrupt so it's ingrained in our brain to not interrupt or say anything in the middle of the performance
You don't dance or scream all the time... Sometimes you just seat still and listen and enjoy in relax mode... That's Qawali
