@@blaisekayumbu2825 I think what makes the 5 series the worst is the front and the M line is worse than the base, I still like some BMWs but I’m more of a Mercedes fan than anything else now
This is the first time that I find the predecessors of both brands significantly better looking than the new version... 😔 Even interiour-wise I'm not sure -- it's more modern but the feeling of luxury is decreasing when there are so many big screens instead of well-made buttons and toggles, in my opinion.
You're not the only one with that perspective. I personally believe that BMW and Mercedes' design prowess is somewhat regressing, as they're putting too much emphasis on a tech-focused aesthetic. However, they appear to be overlooking the importance of maintaining sleek lines and an overall harmonious vibe.
As a BMW fan, I still like the exterior - particularly the front. I have to hand the rear exterior to the Mercedes. The interior was nearly a toss-up due to my familiarity bias, but the Mercedes went way too far - a thing of beauty on the inside. Well done.
I love german cars, life long 5 series fan, but it feels lately that BMW is trying too hard to design the exteriors and not enough of the interiors and features (a lot of them are expensive add-ons as well). For example they have improved the front bumper and lights a little bit, which is nice, but the rear bumper looks overly exaggerated and fat around the black bumper parts. And the rear lights were perfect for the 2023 5 series, no need to change it, but BMW always feels the need to change things that dont need changing. Now the rear lights look plain kinda like Volkswagen Phaeton. I hope they do a more simple and sporty look for the 3 and 4 series, cause the 5 series isnt doing it for me.
Overall the elegant and sporty look of the Merc speaks to me more, which is weird because I'd expect BMW to be more sporty than a Merc, but Merc has hit the balance just right. And of course the interior is insane as always, it might push some people off though with too many screens.
While the E-Class has the classy look it has too much going in the interior IMO. The 5 Series looks chunky but the clean interior looks spacious and both cars have great taillights! Overall the 5 series is ever so slightly better to me personally.
The history always repeats itself, when new e class and 5 series gets revealed, everyone hates the BMW and love the E class. Then in a year the 5 series start selling like hotcakes like it always have been, and everyone praises the BMW for making yet another history, and the E class gets boring at some point. This happened in almost every BMW vs Mercedes cars.
Exactly! I've seen many complaints about this new 5, but I feel that's just because it's new. People don't like new. In a year, people will love it. When it comes time for a mid cycle refresh, people will complain about that and say they're messing up this timeless design....the same people complaining about it now.
In my opinion, this new E-class's design is beautiful, but the new gen looks like an updated last gen car, the side profile and back end looks kinda the same. I dont dislike the BMW front end but it looks too square-ish or boxy or muscular, last gen one is more beautiful.
a good design needs to evolve and not change radically. I wish BMW had taken the Merc approach with the new 5 as the previous generations were amazing.
Agree. The design is perfect. I might get a 550i one and keep it forever. They are currently loosing value much faster than other models in the range, at least in the UK.
all these options to select on touch panels on both cars makes me curious where the driver will focus on? The road or the touch panel to control the air flow or the light settings for example? It looks too risky to have all these while driving.
I liked every single 5 series, from the E39 to the E60, F10 and G30. This is the first model i don't like, because it has lost all it's elegant aura. It gives off the vibes of 2-series or 3-series at most. Sad... 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
@@softroseforyou7457 But longer run: E Class will make interior more boring for you but Mercedes have more problems. Doesn’t look luxurious and good quality compare to other brands
Both exteriors are very nice, i think its just a matter of preference really. BMWs Interior is like a polished Interior from mercedes 2017 generation but more "square/diamond looking". Mercedes as usual comes up with something new and innovative, and I dont know how many times they have changed their interior over the past years but it just gets better and better. I just Hope bwm will keep developing this new interior and not leave it like they did for the previous one for like 10 years.
That's what I've been trying to tell people BMW interiors are litterally refreshed old Mercedes interiors because i believe Mercedes first introduced the dual-screens in 2015 with the s class and they were the first to do it but Now BMW and the new ford mustang have them too.
Normally BMW is more beautiful in every way... But this time the BMW is more beautiful on the outside and the Mercedes is more beautiful in the cockpit.
I would chose probably...the i5 for me! I have so much positive experience with BMW....and it looks just much. more interesting - interior and exterior.
As usual, the BMW car emphasizes a sportier take on luxury, and the Mercedes emphasizes straight up, hard core luxury. They both look very beautiful for those who prefer one style, or the other. They both serve their purpose very nicely. I could go with either car, depending on what mood I was in.
Yea, what is up with that? Like having screens all over the place is distracting. I understand people want changes, but the basic design before this made sense. Apart from the navigation, it’s not like anyone uses the display while driving, which is what you do in a car.
The interior of the Mercedes is definitely better. Much more luxurious than the BMW. Outside of the car I will have to wait to see both cars in person. I will have to drive both cars and see which car I like.
Don’t forget that reliability also problem for Mercedes. Now rated behind Volkswagen then Porsche then Audi then bmw and followed by Lexus. Meaning from the least reliability to most reliability
@@canmel8439 Mercedes has a 4 year /50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. If any thing goes wrong it is covered. This includes both bumper-to-bumper and powertrain components, as well as rust perforation, emission components, and safety belts.
Why make buttons digital? Did they not work when physical? They were easier 1 touch and obvious... I think this is a bad direction for all cars... there was nothing wrong with the physical buttons. Never heard anyone complain or wished they could be accessed through menus on a screen. I'm a bmw fan all day long but don't like the way they are going.. the massive tooth grills in the last couple of years and this new 5 has lost something... doesn't look as aggressive and can just see a pile of electrical and software issues ahead.
Only area of outside shell of bmw that is screwed up are trapezoid black coloured shade above exhaust tips. I don’t see, understand, design points of such action. If it is somehow related to the front vertical shaped vents, coloured black, it still doesn’t justify such action to be carried over to the rear of the car. Sometimes symmetrical flows doesn’t work out.
New 5 series looks way cheaper than it should from outside, especially the rear quarter view. I like the interior, I can't lie. However new E-Class looks like a mini S-Class if equipped with the Exclusive line. I just love that chrome stripe going from one side to the another on the taillights.
Not that Mercedes E class exterior design is groundbreaking, but it's seamless and fluidic. On the other hand, the BMW 5 series with lots of black geometrical tact-on panels may impress some school-going kid who would never be able to buy it as his 50-year-old father would not prefer such a bizarre incident. The outgoing G30 5 Series was more cohesive in most ways.
I have owned a 2021 BMW 530 and a 2021 Mercedes E350 4matic and I must say the BMW drive is beautiful but i cant give up my Mercedes. I just love her. Shes so sexy and sophisticated.
The difference between these two cars is striking. The esthetics of BMW interior are pretty clearly aimed at a different buyer from the Mercedes. The diamond pattern wide band of light in the dashboard is too edgy for me - it seems well-suited in a Dodge Charger, though. The seats and center console appear a bit dated - hopefully there are plans for that. The Mercedes interior is actually quite striking, particularly certain color combinations. The console is great and practical - I like the yacht aluminum/wood console the most. The interior looks very elegant with flowing visual lines - no sharp edges anywhere. The exteriors of the cars follow the same theme as the interior - edgy vs. sophisticated. I do like the front of the BMW, but the side lines and black plastic pieces in the rear are way overdone. I wonder if there will be a version without the “5” embossed on the rear quarter panel. And maybe a version without black plastic trim pieces running along the bottom of the doors. Seriously, BMW looks to have taken a hard left with this model. I think it’s safe to say that more people who pay $80-90,000 for an executive sedan will choose the E-Class over the 5-Series. They’re grown ups.
