Sounds like a guy I know needs to grease that center hub before he reinstalls that passenger tire, Lol. Best thing I ever done to any vehicle I had the tire off of. Never had to fight it again
Or you could use a Dana 60 Differential swap it out from a Ford or Dodge truck. Maybe a Dana 44 from an early 1950s or 1960s Ford. Dana 60 is my Favorite Truck Differential Super Strong
I think that is an early eaton locker. They quickly figured the need for punch holes & not to extend the cam ramps into the governor teeth. I've made a parallel style clamp from pieces of 3/16 steel slotted to fit & 2 bolts to push out the bushings & remove the cam pins.
That G80 Locker Posi Millions of them have failed under hard use. Especially high speed burnouts. Better off Upgrading to an Auburn Cone Posi Pro Traction Unit bought New.

Violent abuse Pretty much only A Dana Spicer Powertrack ( split case bolts together with 9 grade 10 super alloy Boron Steel bolts Dana 60 Mopar Musclecars 1966-1971 & 1958-1963 Pontiac Olds 9.3 diffs used it Factory), Detroit Locker , Full solid Race Spool Steel, 6061 T7 aluminum, and 6AL4V Titanium, and Now Vintage Moroso 12-bolt Chevy Brute Strength Posi Differential Posi can take it without any Failures. Mopar 8-3/4 12-bolt ring gear Posi is very good and strong. My late Bud Bob Heinz used them Street Racing me, they would fail behind his built 440 Mopars Street Racers we built together. He would blow crack the carrier caps off. We had to use Factory Mopar Musclecar Dana 60s behind his built 440s. 550-600Hp True we both had. Pontiac 455 RAIV Power I used.

The Chevy GMC Vortech SBC 350 Era 1/2 Ton pickups and Tahoe and Suburban I seen probably 100 fail in my time as a Mechanic working in shops. They work pretty good in Moderate deep mud and snow. Hate hard use abuse. That Tapered spline is Horrific wear your seeing. Junk now. In the GM Dealerships I worked at they were pretty much non serviceable. Order a new G80 Diff Posi Locker unit for $900 from the parts counter to repair the differential.
@@torqueracingproduction The Chevy Vortech 350 had more torque and power than any SBC prior except the Mightly 1970 LT1 Solid Lifter 350 used in the Z28 Camaro and Corvette. So When the Vortech came out in 1996-1999 era Tire burning rubber fun from GM Was back. Not matched till the 6.0 & 6.2 LS V8 truck engines were made later

Other option is Buy a Used GM 14-Bolt Differential, some had Factory Positeaction.
Yep, that's what I went with was a 14 bolt, so it got a little upgrade! 😃
