    One thing I've noticed about Perception is that it seems to give the highest amount of dialogue choices of any attribute. Next playthrough I'm bumping that up a ton.

    • @jarvisthejackal2418
      @jarvisthejackal2418 4 года назад +6

      While this is true, I notice most attribute-based dialogue checks don't seem to offer you anything tangible, as opposed to actual skill-checks which very much do. So if you're bumping an attribute just for dialogue checks, I recommend only doing it to hear character responses. Then again the characters in this game are lovely so that's a fine reason in itself.

  • @GrrumpyPants

    I used dodge constantly in melee, the 1 handed weapons had 3 swing patterns, so I would dodge in, hit with those three swings, and dodge out and back in between cycles. I found dodging good for kiting any kind of melee enemy, and also for zig zagging towards ranged foes to minimise damage taken.

    Looks like -1 STR, -1 DEX, -1 Temp, +3 to Int, perception and charm seems like a great way to go for a guns + dialogue build without losing really much at all except for that reload speed

    • @moarblood5120
      @moarblood5120 4 года назад +7

      You lose health regen but theres a perk I believe you can get at lvl 1 or 2 that let's you heal for 10 or 15% per kill so no worries

    • @leeman27534
      @leeman27534 4 года назад +1

      eh, there's plenty of ways to heal in this game, consumables, the inhaler, perks that will heal every kill, etc.
      plus it can actually be more useful if you want to use that +30% dmg ability, and benefiting elsewhere.
      but yeah, i agree, -1 str, dex, temp doesn't seem all that bad for gun user, really. carry weight's not that big a deal if using companions + a perk for carry weight, melee dmg isn't an issue, reload speed's not that big a deal, and the regen's not really gonna keep you alive in a firefight, anyway. tbh also see charm as being iffy, whereas int and perception's critical and weakspot focus works for any combat situation.

    You think only combat focused though...
    Just finished a non-companion supernova run and i gotta say:
    - You are right with Long Guns + Science being a strong combo combat-wise.
    - All 3 dialogue skills are good to prevent combat on several occasions.
    - Medicine for inhaler slots to buff yourself while healing is useful. You can even add in food or drinks if you want.
    - Engineering for weapon/armor mod salvage and free repairs saved me my sanity (since i did not have to fast-travel to my ship after every 2-3 encounters) and a boatload of bits on mods.
    - Lockpick > Hack for the most part, but some quests require up to Hack 55 for alternative solutions.

    So THANK YOU for pumping out such a great series of videos so early in the release of the game. I subbed the channel just for this reason and I look forward to more from Fextralife.

I'm kind of serious about games and will usually get annoyed if I screw something up so I watch guid videos to know what I'm getting into. Video games are fun and a good escape and people who give you a hard time for them are asses and should just be ignored. So thank you for making a good starter vid that explains everything really well.

    I’m not sure if this guy has played the game, but the dialog skills are some of the most important in the game. Better dialog skills help you talk your way out of situations in restricted areas, will provide a discount at vendor shops based off of your highest dialog skill, and can unlock alternate story routes apart from the main one. The game literally says “Dialog skills improve your ability to talk with NPC’s, both in and OUT of combat”. Please work on your dialog skills. Thank you.🙏🏾

    The Boom Headshot perk is good if you you're a sniper and you plan your shots when two or more enemies are close together. Beware that you are looking without depth perception so even if they look close together, they may not be close in the Z axis. It is a good perk though for shot planners.
    Also, if you are like me and shooting from a far off perch of some sort, while your companions go in for the cleanup, I usually like to take one shot on each target for those with power armor or such or on the hard level where you may need more than one shot one kill. Spreading out the shots reduces their HP and makes it easier for your companions.
    Btw, if playing PC version, a mouse with sniper button is a must. I have not gained much by reducing mouse sensitivity settings in game. I refuse to overly reduce my general mouse settings, since I need flexibility for CAD work.

      From what I am seeing in other reviews, leadership and using your companions to do most of the heavy lifting is a viable build. Also a balanced approach seems to work and even a dialog heavy approach is viable. Most others are saying the combat at least on normal is not that difficult. So I would say experiment at the difficulty and then do the harder difficulties.

    Hi, with cosmetic side of character creation I find it slightly just slightly disappointing, compared to other games, all the girl preset heads still look like the guys for this, I guess obsidian favoured the boys in this huh ?
    As for charm imo = charisma, ( just me tho ) it more fun to fail speech option or in this game to succeed at lying, also another thing for ppl to note instead of using adreno for health like stimpaking yourself , all that food or other healthy products, you can, load those into stimpak box in the menu, 1 last thing, I was aware , having just starting the game, that for example you could put points into sub skills, say under defence , like block and not just defence overall ?

    20 to 30% extra melee speed is effectively 20 to 30% more damage if you are not a sneaky type and more of a brute.. not sure why the hate is there.

    Dodge is crucial to most builds, especially on hard and supernova. Raptidon Colossi and Mantiqueens deal disgusting amount of damage with their skillshots, and once it lands, it's AOE. You have to time it perfectly, but you can't, because all of those little fuckers (mantipillars and green raptidons) keep shooting their barrages of skillshots, so your only chance of dodging is by leveling up your dodge, thus increasing the dodge distance.

    Dodging forward is likely a good way to close the distance between you and your enemy so it is useful at early levels not to mention it really depends on what kind of a player you are as I thought it was amazing while playing but this guy obviously does not share that opinion

    I'm 3 years late here. But isn't health regen exponentially stronger as armor and health increases? I'm not good at the math stuff but having watched some content creators for games making videos about similar stuff. Health isn't important in a vacuum, or armor, or regen. It's all about your combined EHP - effective health. So things like health regen could bump that up significantly when considering other synergetic factors.

    Max temperament and good medical skill
    Slap some carbs into the inhaler and you can get pretty absurd health regeneration

    Engineering is honestly the most underrated skill. Getting it to at least 80 makes money irrelevant which leads to maxing out your weapons/gear at all time

    From the little bit of the game that I saw, it seems like males and females look the same in the game. Well like there are _some_ differences, but they can share not only some hair styles (which isn't that strange), but even faces. I thought that the first guard to the Deserters (I think that's who it was?) looked like Silas, just Silas had an older looking face.

    • @BlatentlyFakeName
      @BlatentlyFakeName 4 года назад

      No way to make any of the characters look normal, can't edit the chin shape etc so all the females look manly and ugly. One look at their "art" team and you can see why.

  • @cht5001
    @cht5001 4 года назад +14

    Why is all he talked about is combat? No stealth, no science, no engineering its literally 100% about combat you're missing a ton of other features and bonuses these attributes give. Btw +30% reload speed and +30% melee swing speed is pretty significant specially in a bruiser build

      Focusing on min maxing combat in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME with a HUGE focus on dialogue and role playing... 🙃

    • @specialagentgeralt9763
      @specialagentgeralt9763 4 года назад

      @Grym My point is that trying to min max it is not necessary and would just result in missing out on the arguably more polished aspect of the game. Combat focus is fine, I also like to do that, but I just don't feel forgoing stuff like science and speech is necessary to still be a badass.

    Here is the question in the determination rank 100 skill it says companions gain 50% health when they kill an enemy now does that mean they heal 50% of their health, they heal 50% of the enemies health, or do they gain a 50% increase to their max health all of which are good, but healing 50% of their health every time they kill something is broken with a capital B

    I think you under rate companigns abit. They are very power. THey have abilities that quickly get to the point of one shotting enemies or completely CCing groups of enemies. It's one of the best for conversations characters as you don't need melee stats and the charm overlap in benefits for you.
    Medical is also quite strong as the drug buffs are quite powerful, and loading up 4 of them with max duration to where one puff gets you through the fight is good. Each drug is worth a perk point or two. Not to mention N-ray dots suck pretty bad along with other slows and the medical mid tier cuts thier durations in half. On that note hacking 40 gives you easy access to a large supply of drugs to buff yourself with.
    Inhale bread for +25% base health, +1 body from water, +1 mind from coffee, +1 personal from alcohol all lasting almost a minute which is how long most big brawls are. If you wanna live danerously there are even more powerful buffs you can grab. Medical lets you actualy use those 25second long buffs.
    Last dex is worse strength, but 10% more damage and 10% faster attacks is the same thing unless your doing a power hit dodge build or something.
    On the power hit dodge build. You can use the dodge ability along side power 2h weapon attacks to do big damage.
    Most else you are pretty spot on though.

      Ryan Klee Yeah I noticed that. I haven’t purchased the game yet but I compared it to Kotor, and the third person view not only allows you to see your character, but it just looks better IMO. I understand from their point of view deciding to go first person. They probably thought it would be more immersive but it actually makes it less immersive for me. Not a deal breaker though.
