Surfaced Studio Oddly enough, just in the last month (March 31) we had a discussion on the Hitfilm forum on morphing--I suggested bezier warp. This is a fantastic tutorial, up to your usual high standards. Great presentation. For Hitfilm Pro users, Puppet Warp could also be an option, either instead of, or in conjunction with Bezier Warp. (Of course, with Puppet Warp coded, half the work for Liquify or a dedicated Morph is done--tesselation is done. So. Can I guess Celina handed you toast and you just patched the wall and did a quick roto/animation for the pop up? Nice way to end the intro!
Congratulations Tobias. I m glad you are part of hitfilm now. You and this hitfilm channel have the best tutorials ever for compositing and vfx on youtube. Cheers :)
Yes, it certainly did. Up until Tobias' excellent tut, Bezier Warp was just a fancy term I had read about in the forum and of which I had absolutely no understanding...well most of the warps, truth to tell only recently playing with sphere and polar on my own. Nothing like seeing its use in practice to illuminate things.
Just loading my laptop vesion, I do mostof my work on a i7 PC I started in making imovies back in 1961 on a Bell & Howell Fix focus lens stadard 8mm camcorder. I will record the talk I am makitng tomorrow and send it to you. I have had many editing programs over the years, and this is the best I have experienced. The challenge is the educasional learning by those that have took a degee. I leaned through trial and error. Back in 1957 you only went to univercity if your dad had a lot of money . I was ony 3 when he died in the war. Yes I am getting old now 76years . But THANK YOU. you have given me a new lease of life , and a new challenge to make better movies . Please keep me in your up date list.
When I first watched how to do this it just made my head spin by the time he started the bezier warp, but now I am a little more experienced Thank you for teaching us how to do all these sweet effects!
There's always a lot to learn. It can be tricky at the start but it's worth it. It's really great to hear you've become more experienced and now understand this tutorial :) - Oli (HitFilm staff)
You are very welcome :) It's a fairly long process to set the effect up, but each step, taken on its own is actually pretty 'simple'. Given the amount of steps in there though the word came up A LOT hehe
Great Tutorial - ok, with lots of steps but that's how it goes (and fortunately with on board fx from Express either) - all understandable presented and very well explained. Thanks a lot, Tobias!
I would really love to be able to do this in 16 minutes and 34 seconds, it looks so clear and simple 🤗 Thanks for your tutorials, great ones, love them ❤️
That is sick! Perfection. So many details. And yes, it needs to be perfect to look natural! I wouldn't have been surprised if you would have also tilted and skewed the lightning reflection (because perfect mirroring happens only if the camera is on the same plane as the table but the angles were negligible in this case, yes). Under 0.5% of people can do that, despite this tutorial.
Wow...lol! I love how he ends with "That's all there is to it." I will need to find some Tutorials that move at a much slower pace. Great video none the less!
Great stuff as always, Toby! Nice to see you over on the HitFilm channel. Just a couple of bonus tips: 1. You can jump to key frames by double-clicking the keyframe diamond. 2. Rather than saving out a single frame for the clean plates and other elements just shoot enough steady footage; that way you'll automatically have exactly the right noise level and it'll save you a couple of steps. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks Carl :) And yes, both good points! The trick with enough steady footage for the cereal box was though that it gets exchanged very quickly for a toaster, but you are totally right - that would have removed the problem with the noise. And I didn't even know you could double click on the keyframe diamonds to jump to it :)
Great tutorial, I've been practising morphing for a few days now. It's going well. How about morphing a moving objects, like cars? It's moving object and moving background. Sounds complicated.
Quick question. I don't know if anyone will ever answer this, but here it is anyways: How do you get the keystrokes that you make to show up on screen? What program do you use?
HitFilm Not yet.. But maybe i'll share my next Film! I have a question: Can you make a tutorial how to make the "Upside Down" of the Netflix Show Stranger Things? :)
Could you discuss how to add shadows from the lightning cast by the morphed object, as well as a basic shadow of the same from the ambient room lighting?
You can pre-compose the morphing objects, desaturate the layer, darken it and then blur it out to create a 'shadow' for the objects. You can then distort it if you need and make it a little transparent to place a fake shadow in your scene. Finally, animate the opacity to match the lightning flicker and it should work out quite nice :)
Hey! In that tutorial it doesn't signify, that the opacity lowers between change, but I have very vivid background, and in one moment the opacities are 50 and 50, so my background shows off? Is there any ways to fix it, to lodge the object colors while changing?
Maybe focus on the objects' table reflections before adding lightning and all that. Would also be nice if there was a way to perfectly match all the points for the morph to be perfect. But anyways, great stuff!
Philafxs well, the table reflection would be... More layers masking and morphing the existing reflections to match. Repeat prior steps. Rather than repeat himself, I think Tobias chose to move on.
Surely, but that doesn't mean it should be left completely unmentioned (especially since he does mention the reflective table surface and did the other things with it). Also, it would be interesting to see his approach on working with only part of an object (or its reflection in this case) to morph, which means that morphing and shrinking the box's reflection wouldn't work. Perhaps one would be better off recreating the reflections by altering clones of the objects, etc. So there is plenty of information missing in that area. ;-)
Philafxs True, but, this particular channel has time/format restrictions set by FXHOME creators have to follow. We have to pick and choose. The hope is that the viewer will get the principles and start to experiment. Or adapt the principles. You've already had good ideas. I just had another. I'd probably move the morph layers to an embedded composite shot, and, in the main comp, change its vertical scale to -100%, position,, mask, blur, reduce opacity. I happened to do last weeks tutorial, and I had to throw out so much information and simplify so many steps... I cut that sucker to the breaking point. Great effect, ultimately too ambitious for this format. Next time, I'm pitching a title. Lol.
Very true. I honestly thought this video went way more "overboard" then other tutorials (both guest and in-house ones). Possibly could've been a 2-part, one focussing on the morphing and then another on the jedi power lightning and glow stuff.
It would definitely take a little more tweaking that this but it's certainly possible. Make sure you lock the camera in place for the shot and get a clean plate :) Green screening the actors could also be very useful :) - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
Bezier Warp works by deforming a rectangular frame. Besides greenscreen, you'll want to pre-key your actors in a Composite Shot. It might be smarter to move both actors into their own comp and morph them before putting them over the background. Because Bezier Warp modifies a rectangle, you don't want your actors moving. Good tutorial, but it would have made more sense to keyframe a point for the hands which could have been used to position both the flares and the lightning. :)

is hitfilm forcing its users to buy the program by deleting all effects?????? i just download the update and it removed all the effects and only 3 is now available when i bring in any old editted episode it says effects from the video is no longer available in the program
This is not the case. In the latest version of HitFilm Express we actually added a large number of effects for users. Import Composite Shot csn also load any/all Composite Shots from one project into another. So you can not only save effects chain like Javert mentioned, but create your own template projects.
Hey Yall anybody could you help me out? I am trying out the express software for edit. Trying to slice a large clip up. Is anybody else having difficulties editing where the video and the audio don't sync with one another so you can't really splice it. How did you fix that? Or that just how the free version is

hi i would like to ask about hitfilm expressm is it possible to make effect that look like in "photoreal" from Corridor Digital? /watch?v=Oiuzt2E4NYc&t=14s. Thank you in advance
This is a really awesome effect, we'll have to do some research and get back to you. It looks like this may require the use of the Projector inside HitFilm which is a Pro-only feature. - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
hello I have a terrible doubt about some hidden features when someone is buying your software I do love hitfilm and I would love to buy it BUT I have a terrible doubt and I want you to answer my question please I was reading on the web about some hidden features when someone's buying the software like for example, there's no borisFX and no Mocha as well so... that makes no sense, is that an issue ? because in your web site version 7.1 says no more issue about borisFX and a lot of people are having that issue YET I want to buy your software but... any solution ? they say delete boris folder and re-install but downloading it oneself apart, that's not correct please tell me what to do and how to fix that issue
Hi, I'm sorry I don't quite understand the question but I can assure you that if you do purchase HitFilm Pro you get Boris 3D Objects and Mocha HitFilm. These can also be purchased as add-on packs for HitFilm Express. If you're having any trouble with these at all please do contact the technical support team here: hitfilm.com/ask You're also welcome to test the HitFilm Pro demo which comes with everything you'd get with HitFilm Pro, the only limitation is that you can't export: hitfilm.com/hitfilm-pro/demo - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
I've looked into this further for you and been made aware Boris 3D Objects and Mocha HitFilm aren't currently in the demo. You can test out all the other features the Pro software comes with though using the demo :) - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm I did understand oli but you must add boris and mocha in the demo version as well why boris and mocha aren't in the demo ? anyway I'll give it a try indeed thank you oli and please try to add boris and mocha in demo mode, that would be awesome indeed hugs and thanks again kind regards long live hitfilm ;)
HitFilm a friend of mine, I was talking to him a few minutes before and he told me that I must not to buy hitfilm 'cause he did buy it and boris and mocha weren't there even when he purchased it, so... I don't know what to do now
If you're using HitFilm Express we have a selection of add-ons you can purchase. You can take a look here: hitfilm.com/store/hitfilm-express - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
+Hitfilm 11:20 Description is missing lightning tutorial link assume he's talking about the force lightning tutorial ruclips.net/video/7Iwt3d82CAA/видео.html though for the explorers there are lots of style|technique options ruclips.net/user/FXhomeHitFilmsearch?query=lightning?&ab_channel=HitFilm
If you’re looking to roto in Express, without purchasing the mocha add-on, you’ll have to animate masks manually, mostly frame by frame. Here are a couple of tutorials on how to do that in HitFilm: m.ruclips.net/video/0lXrMk5MWd8/видео.html m.ruclips.net/video/oGpoGkzwZZo/видео.html
Hitfilm and Surfaced studio collaboration. This is incredible. My top two favourite vfx tutorial channels!
:D Aaaw, thanks! And many thanks to @FXhomeHitFilm for having me on their channel!
It's not that hard! Just start at the beginning and you'll be a pro in no time! It's all about practice and some patience :)
@@SurfacedStudio - You n Film Sensei r the best ones... Then FXHome :)
Pro tip: watch movies on flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Josue Conner definitely, have been using Flixzone for months myself :)
Thank you so much for having me on your channel @FXhomeHitFilm! I had a blast (and then some toast) :D

Thanks for the collab - both of you!
Tobias!
I've been following him for years, much of what I know is through him. Great to see him here. 😀
Awesome job, as always.
Glad you guys included Tobias in your channel, been following him for awhile. Good Tutorials as always.
Congratulations Tobias. I m glad you are part of hitfilm now. You and this hitfilm channel have the best tutorials ever for compositing and vfx on youtube.
Cheers :)
Thank you so much - and tons of thanks to HitFilm for creating this awesome piece of software and making it FREE for everyone :D
PROPS on this video!
I can’t help but wonder what some of my fav scifi shows back in the day would look like if they had HitFilm back then!
This video should be nominated for an award in a short film category.
It better, I practised my toast-catching skills for days just for the intro... ;)
Wow! Just starting the video but amazed that someone figured out how to morph in Hitfilm. Great job, guys!
:D
I will note I've said on the forum for awhile one could use Bezier Warp, but, thanks to Tobias now there's an excellent tutorial showing the steps. :)
Really glad you found the tutorial useful and it showed you some techniques you didn't know were possible :)

HitFilm all thanks to your insightful tutorials! As well as hitfilm sensei, shiny films, Javier, and tobias without RUclips I would’ve been so lost
nice seeing what goes into pulling it off... well done !
Tobias, you make this looking that "simple" 😀 (you said "simple" so many times in this tutorial). Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You are very welcome :) It's a fairly long process to set the effect up, but each step, taken on its own is actually pretty 'simple'. Given the amount of steps in there though the word came up A LOT hehe

Excellent! Thank you Javert and Tobias!
You are welcome and many thanks to everyone at @FXhomeHitFilm for having me over :D
I like these longer tutorials
Great tutorial! And the HitFilm family grows and grows. Soon we're going to hit critical mass and it's going to be huge.
Excellent tutorial delivered in a fun and entertaining way I look forward to more guest tutorials from you on hit film!
Thank you very much for the comment! And thanks for @FXhomeHitFilm for having me on their channel! I had a blast :D
Thank you very much. Tobias (surfaced studio) ❤❤
You are very welcome ABDU PRO :)
OMG thank you ... this is so cool... this is now an official exercise I will use for my videography students !

So good. The attention to detail is fantastic but matched by the clarity of the instruction.
Amazing feedback! Thanks so much! :)

Thank you for the awesome feedback - and many thanks to @FXhomeHitFilm for inviting me over to host a guest tutorial on their channel :)
Very cool and nice to see Tobias :)
Thank you and great to hear you enjoyed it :)
Awesome tutorial, really fresh vfx and good explaining. Exciting!
Adding a little bit of smoke to that morphing object would have looked great.
Feel free to add other elements to further spice it up :) I was trying to keep it short - and failed rather miserably haha!
Always cool
:D
That's quite cool... A Kamehameha tutorial would be great too
there are sooooo many of those on the internet XD
I challenge you to find me a good one 😂
Great tutorial.
Tobias is awesome!
We like him a lot also!
You're awesome man!
super cool ! :D
Great stuff as always, Toby! Nice to see you over on the HitFilm channel. Just a couple of bonus tips:

Great tutorial, I've been practising morphing for a few days now. It's going well. How about morphing a moving objects, like cars? It's moving object and moving background. Sounds complicated.
This reminds me the world of alex mack and sliders
Wow that was cool. :)
:D
Hold up! Hold up, there! How did that toast manage to jump into your hand?? Another excellent tutorial!
Haha, I'm just THAT good at catching flying toast... **shifty eyes**
yeah, we want a tutorial on catching flying toast! ;D awesome job on this one! it looks fantastic!
I hope we get a mesh warp effect like the one in after effects in the next Hitfilm pro version along with a Roto Brush tool
awesome tutorial
aww man, now I wanna make a hitfilm tutorial XD
Please do! We'd love to see! :D
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm oh man, the pressure 😫. I don't know if I'm at tutorial skill level yet 😅
Making a tutorial is also a great way to learn. Breaking down the steps for others really fixes it in your mind.
Good to know. I'll think of something then and get it out 😁
Cool!
Very cool! In my opinion Hitfilm Express is a very powerful software!
It is indeed :D
Yeah. I also love your tutorials.👍🏻
Lovely
Thank you SirCheeseKnight :)
appreciated my guy 👍
Quick question. I don't know if anyone will ever answer this, but here it is anyways:
How do you get the keystrokes that you make to show up on screen? What program do you use?
I recorded the tutorial using Movavi ScreenCapture studio (not free, but pretty cheap) :)
The thing about this that throws me off is the reflection on the table. It doesn't seem right. But still a very useful instruction. Thank you.
Nice tutorial👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to check out the Surfaced Studio channel for more :)
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
I love Hitfilm, i use Hitfilm Pro and have used it for a lot of my short films👍
That's brilliant! :) Have you managed to share any films on the HitFilm forums? We'd love to see what you make.
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm Not yet.. But maybe i'll share my next Film! I have a question: Can you make a tutorial how to make the "Upside Down" of the Netflix Show Stranger Things? :)
Austin Thomas did one...
ruclips.net/video/WB7zTlShPTk/видео.html
When someone calls you nerd, and you show him thoose biceps
Tobias loves to show off those biceps, doesnt he. ;)
I'll bet the hardest part was getting the toast to look perfect.
Hello! Is there morphing interpolation between frames during frame rate change? Like optical flow in davinci.
An alternative would be to mask out the reflections on the table (use the PNGs) and repeat the morph steps on the masked reflections.
Hey! In that tutorial it doesn't signify, that the opacity lowers between change, but I have very vivid background, and in one moment the opacities are 50 and 50, so my background shows off? Is there any ways to fix it, to lodge the object colors while changing?
And I thought I was fluent in Hitfilm!
There always seems to be more stuff to learn :D
OMG THIS CAN BE USED FOR SHAPE SHIFTING LIKE SUPER HEROES RIGHT? WOAHH
Maybe focus on the objects' table reflections before adding lightning and all that. Would also be nice if there was a way to perfectly match all the points for the morph to be perfect. But anyways, great stuff!

Hi Oli, I've seen videos where one clip morphs into another in the form of a video transition. Is this possible in HE? Thanks.
Do you have an example of the effect? I'd like to be able to take a look and see how it can be done if possible :)

I can't hit the Export Frame
"Export frame" is displayed not black but gray
Make sure you've activated the software using your free serial code on your HitFilm account page or via File > Options > Activation.

How can you make Hitfilm presets? I would like to dovit because so I don't have to make projekts for effects I want to use often.
In the Controls panel, hold Ctrl or CMD and select multiple effects. Right-click and select Create Preset.
- Javert
Tank you
You can also export a Composite Shot by right-clicking in the media pool and selecting Save As. Composite Shots can be imported into other projects with the Import Composite Shot menu.
Import Composite Shot csn also load any/all Composite Shots from one project into another. So you can not only save effects chain like Javert mentioned, but create your own template projects.
I was looking for a liquify effect to warp my footage
bezier warp is exactly what I am looking for
Glad we could help!

Will not go to the Project Files? anyone know why?
Hey Yall anybody could you help me out? I am trying out the express software for edit. Trying to slice a large clip up. Is anybody else having difficulties editing where the video and the audio don't sync with one another so you can't really splice it. How did you fix that? Or that just how the free version is
We might need to take a closer look into this to work out what's happening. If you can contact our technical support team directly they'll be able to help: hitfilm.com/ask

hi i would like to ask about hitfilm expressm is it possible to make effect that look like in "photoreal" from Corridor Digital?
/watch?v=Oiuzt2E4NYc&t=14s.
Thank you in advance
This is a really awesome effect, we'll have to do some research and get back to you. It looks like this may require the use of the Projector inside HitFilm which is a Pro-only feature.

hello
I have a terrible doubt about some hidden features when someone is buying your software
I do love hitfilm and I would love to buy it BUT I have a terrible doubt and I want you to answer my question please
I was reading on the web about some hidden features when someone's buying the software
like for example, there's no borisFX and no Mocha as well
so... that makes no sense, is that an issue ?
because in your web site version 7.1 says no more issue about borisFX and a lot of people are having that issue YET
I want to buy your software but... any solution ?
they say delete boris folder and re-install but downloading it oneself apart, that's not correct
please tell me what to do and how to fix that issue
Hi, I'm sorry I don't quite understand the question but I can assure you that if you do purchase HitFilm Pro you get Boris 3D Objects and Mocha HitFilm. These can also be purchased as add-on packs for HitFilm Express. If you're having any trouble with these at all please do contact the technical support team here: hitfilm.com/ask
You're also welcome to test the HitFilm Pro demo which comes with everything you'd get with HitFilm Pro, the only limitation is that you can't export: hitfilm.com/hitfilm-pro/demo
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm
thank you oli
I will ;)
I've looked into this further for you and been made aware Boris 3D Objects and Mocha HitFilm aren't currently in the demo. You can test out all the other features the Pro software comes with though using the demo :)
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm
I did understand oli but you must add boris and mocha in the demo version as well
why boris and mocha aren't in the demo ?
anyway I'll give it a try indeed
thank you oli and please try to add boris and mocha in demo mode, that would be awesome indeed
hugs and thanks again
kind regards
long live hitfilm ;)
HitFilm
a friend of mine, I was talking to him a few minutes before and he told me that I must not to buy hitfilm 'cause he did buy it and boris and mocha weren't there even when he purchased it, so... I don't know what to do now
Where can I get extra effects for hitfilm?
If you're using HitFilm Express we have a selection of add-ons you can purchase. You can take a look here: hitfilm.com/store/hitfilm-express
- Oli (HitFilm Staff)
HitFilm thanks
Tnx for this 🤗 very interesting...
Could talk a bit slower 😆 (speedy mouth)
Anyone else feel like you could get the effect in like half the number of steps?
Hey I did it!!!!!! (Sort Of)

for express
If you’re looking to roto in Express, without purchasing the mocha add-on, you’ll have to animate masks manually, mostly frame by frame. Here are a couple of tutorials on how to do that in HitFilm:
