Hi everyone, I am Audrey from Janus Academy. I'm very excited to share our UPDATED first video lesson from Learn Japanese with Terrace House series.

Thank you for making this learning series! I have a question about this episode. Why did all the girls say です and all the guys と申します? Is it common in Japan for girls and boys to use a different phrase, or is it a pure coincidence? I want to learn the most natural and native level language so I'm curious 😊 Thank you
My pleasure! と申します is more formal an humble than です, these two don't really have a gender differentiation. But do notice that the girls in the shows are quite young and young people in Japan nowadays do not use keigo(polite language) as often as the older generation. Also, those who already started working in a corporate would also use polite version more often. Taka is much older, and maybe he wants to have a very proper image on the housemates as well as on camera 😆

Just set realistic and mini learning goals to form a "mini habit" in learning 😊

what's difference among hajimemashou, hajimete, hajimaru yo?
Wow this is really useful！I have been using 「と言います。」to introduce myself. How does this fit into the Formal to casual space?
「○○と言います」is more casual than 「○○と申します」😊
