Quite frankly you cannot say if it's a good marriage or not from this. It is an example of an idealized relationship and people hanging in there, but that's all. Thing is that with marriages, honesty is crucial. People cannot change or improve themselves if no one says anything and if there's a big issue like food being literally inedible then it will become huge stress for the guy and in relationships both sides need to work hard to improve each other without pulling each other down. I cannot imagine the guy eating the food every day as it might end with food poisoning or at least an accumulation of stress. It is sweet to look at, but it's not an healthy relationship, as relationships shouldn't just be about taking from one side (Money, time, etc), or one side constantly sacrificing himself, as the relationship will break in time. Thankfully it seems like it was just a 1 time thing and it's just a guy making a sacrifice while keeping his wife in mind, which I do admit is sweet. Being honest, upfront and being willing to help her improve would've been far better (Apologizing to her and being honest would've been far better for everyone, their children included). At least if the guy is honest then the woman will be able to trust him far easier as well throughout the relationship/marriage. Hell you could make it into an activity where you work together in cooking food, helping her in areas where she's weak (In seasoning for example). Note: Currently I am in a serious relationship with a Japanese woman and just sharing the way how I see things. I feel like focusing way too much on the self-sacrifice isn't exactly great there, although most certainly that guy is crazy strong as most westerners would most likely find a way to throw the food out while the wife is away (Also not something I would support as it's deception).

I don't think this case here has much to do with feminism. I think it's just common courtesy in Asia to not say anything bad about a girl's cooking in general, at least that's how it seems within the chinese and korean community as far as i know. And i think the husband just doesn't want to hurt his wife's feelings. However, if a husband really comes back after a hard day of work and cannot complain about anything for no good reason but because his wife dictates him, then that would be a hell hole for sure :(. I think the high suicide rate is a result of the high pressure environment there. Working overtime is almost an always and pay is generally small , the society has a lot of social rules and regulations as well. i think that's why the suicide rate is high :(
Observer I don't mean to be /that/ person, but you have it wrong. in fact it's quite the opposite. Women in the workplace in Japan are hardly taken seriously, and there is very high pressure to maintain a feminine, "cute" and passive role. Do a bit of research before you depict a culture based on one video. This man just doesn't want to hurt his wife's feelings.
Observer lol you're copy-paste this comment in almost every comment that you didn't even see that this comment didn't say anything about "nice husband" trophy. Anyway why are you so salty about feminists? There's not even any here, oh and 'dictator'?? You're too overreacting oml 😂
Observer Japan is ranked 26th in suicide rates. Sure it's high, but one of the highest? Nah... It's not that he can't complain, but there's a time and place for everything. The husband could always find some time later, and say it in a more gentle way. Perhaps something like "You know, today's food wasn't the best." Just try to put yourself in the shoes of the wife. For the wife to handle the housework, take care of the kids and the house, and after all that prepare food for the husband only to hear "This shit sucks", how would she feel about all the effort she's put in the whole marriage? You think it's any easier to handle housework and kids than to work a full-time job? Think again. How about this, imagine you getting off work, getting home and your spouse just starts complaining that you aren't earning enough money. How would you feel? Please don't get married with that way of thinking. You're just going to cause misery for your spouse. And stop bringing feminism into everything. It barely exists in Japan and lets keep it that way because there's too many feminazis out there in the western world.
Right? Poor guy, felt sorry for him because it looked like it was really hard for him to eat, but he kept a brave face so he doesn't hurt his wifes feelings. ^_^ I loved when he was like "are you sure the kids ate this" and she was like "yeah they loved it why are you asking?" hahahaha
Husband is innocent and sincere... He is afraid to hurt the feeling of his wife... so, he eat it like a delicious food... i think Husband is a very hard working person and has pure heart.... salute to the Husband....!! 👍👍
I can relate. My wife never really cooked after we got married. First few months were horrible but I kept telling her it was good when she asked. Over time she became a better cook because it encouraged her. Now, just a few small critic when needed and necessary. She'll be a better cook than I am someday.
I love that! ❤ I use to like cooking and baking but whatever I made my siblings would go out of their way to let me know how I shouldn’t cook at all and how disgusting they thought it was even though most of the time it wasn’t. At first I laughed it off and ignored it because I know they just said those things to bully me but after a long while I couldn’t take it anymore and simply stopped altogether. Now my mom keeps asking me to help her out with cooking and I feel bad. But I can’t bring myself to do it, because if I hear one nasty comment from my siblings I already know it will trigger all kinds of emotions and I will explode right there and then. Which is exactly what they want. So I only cook breakfast for myself early in the mornings nowadays while everyone is still asleep. It’s hard because I loved discovering different recipes and trying new tastes but now I’ve become very insecure about my cooking. I hope I will get an understanding and patient husband like you some day, I would be so lucky.
@@udontevenwannaknowbruv Sorry to hear that. It sucks when family members are the ones making you feel down. I can relate to that. If you love cooking you should keep at it and no one should stop you. Use it as an opportunity to “I’ll show them” type of moment. You can start by preparing food for yourself first, which is always the most important part because we all have different preferences and taste palettes. When you think they’ll like it, they can have a sample until they’ll ask you to make it for them. At some point, you’ll still have to cook for yourself, or maybe someday for your future husband and kids. Might as well start improving your culinary skills early😁
SuperSaiyaman3 I wished she didn't said that she gave it to the kids and that they liked it, I wonder what he would then say. His mentality changed from 'if they could eat this, so can I'
I find it funny that he was happier about not having to eat the rest rather than finding it funny it was a prank. With him literally crying from joy you'd think he had just won the lottery haha. He didn't want to make his wife sad it so nice. Also, the look of agony and fear, when he is alone with the dish, had me rolling!
No subtitles for the last bit. Went something like: 7:43-7:49 Husband: My wife has a strong personality. I didn’t want to get on her bad side and have her angry at me. 7:51-7:54 Wife: I was happy. He said, “it was good” and ate it. 7:56-8:12 Husband: She looks after the kids. She does her best everyday. All I can do is my work, but she does all the chores. Something like this (eating the awful food) is the least I can do. Everyday I appreciate all that she does for us. 8:15 Wife: Thank you for eating it.
Jerrold Ong I guess it's cultural differences. in Japanese society it's common to accept and endure rather than ask someone to change. the husband's act is considered polite, respect and kind in Japan
This literally make me sad.. i always complain my wife cook if it doesn't taste so good.. i should learn to appreciate my wife better.. she has spend a hard time to make a good dish for my family..
Wow, they already have 5 kids and the wife looks pregnant. Very unusual in their country, Japan should be proud of them and provide some assistance because they are saving Japan's future
Kinkou Kinkou If that's how you think, I worry for Japan's future. Japan will not have enough Men to defend the country if war breaks out. You said "Japan is small"? It is huge as an island compared to mine, Singapore. Lol
Kinkou Kinkou was it not a known thing that the Japanese race is dying out? the birth rate in japan has been declining and it is well known among even the japanese.
Kinkou Kinkou I also believe the world is overpopulated however that's more of a concern in China and probably the US as well, in terms of the overly high populated areas
From a nature-conservation perspective, yeah the world population is increasing annually and it's better we have less people to consume our limited resource. But as for Japan, it is calculated by experts to be decreasing and is having a noticeable percent of elders which will eventually die out and will leave with less people which is not good for Japan since they will no longer be able to support their country economically.
every men is awesome,he always come from office n howerver he got horrible food his reaction is lovely :-1) first he ask ,his childrens have ate or not ( he shows his love about childrens first) 2) he ate 50% food even in horrible conditions .(he showed his love about wife). respecte every husband .he lives for his family more than his own .
Fernan Gomez 140 million with majority old people not young population in another 50 years japan will have population decrease and not enough man power to keep their economy going that where they have problem
Young Tang i have been cooking dishes and I'm 100% sure I have at least made 80% of those dish horrible. Oh, I'm a Muslim too. I'm still alive, kicking and hitting dem pans and plates. So, better to close yr effin mouth since it's already so narrow
This is feminist dictatorship hellhole, husband came back after work and can't even complain about wife's horrible cooking skill, just to get a silly "nice husband" trophy? is this why Japan has one of the highest suicide rate in the world?
Observer In my country - asia A womans dish, no matter how terrible her cooking is.. Its quite a taboo for us men to say its bad. Obviously her wife know hes lying thats why she agree for this vid.
Observer Feminists? This kind of behaviour alone helps asian people to not adopt the feminism philosophy, the reason why a lot of Asian females are very submissive to their husbands because their husbands submits to them too.
Observer ooor it’s a real man who loves his wife and can’t bear telling her the truth about her food? No need to bring in all sorts of conspiracies into this...
@@zandovic That may be the dictionary definition. In the U.S., at least, when we say we cooked something from scratch, that means we made it w/o relying on pre-cooked or store-prepared components (like canned vegetables). It may divert from the dictionary definition, but that’s what Americans mean when we say making a dish from scratch. I am pretty sure not even one person in the U.S. would even expect you to have harvested vegetables, raised and butchered a cow, etc. when you say you cooked beef stew from scratch!!!
I love the way he treat his wife a respect and didn't want hurt his wife! I love his personally! I can't find a great man like him.. Hard to find.. By the way, I watch and really made me real laugh real hard because of his expressions, really funny!
Same. When my mom cooks for us, I always eat up and thank her after the meal, even if I don't like the taste very much. Cooking is a just a boring and sometimes difficult task. My dad always just speaks his mind - without ever considering the feelings of others. I hope more people see this guy as a role model
You know this man was raised the right way never make a face at food. I do the same when I got marry I would cook my wife didn't know all she knew what to make was eggs, well that suck cuz I'm allergic, first time I met my in laws they were having spinach omelette...my mother in law asked me if I wanted some not trying to look like an ass I said sure. I was sick for the next week worth it tho she loves me cuz of that.
but theres a problem with that logic if you cook something horrible and lets say your husband says its amazing you will keep making the horrible thing and he will hate you deep down
That's true, but MAYBE this guy would make subtle hints to his wife for her not to cook it again. Example: the beef is too expensive... It's not as effective as blatantly saying it sux, but it is much much more... well... it doesn't lead to slaps XD
really depends tho. maybe if something similar to stolkholm syndrome happens, he might start liking the food if the others really did like it while he gives up on himself and gets broken deep inside because he loves his family more. Although if you're saying he will hate his wife just cause of a horrible dish, something is definitely wrong with their relationship if they can't make it up after.
If I were this guy I would just say ''your food is usually good but today it isn't ' or something like that. What is love if not also tell the truth to the beloved person?
@@deivisony My last relationship was ruined because I was too honest, I thought honesty was the way to go. I loved her so much but what she needed was lies to cope with her emotions
My dad wont give a comment to my mom until he finishes the food if the food isnt that good but there were times when my mom went like "honey. Just be honest. The kids said it isnt taste that good and I know I screwed it up" then my dad would be like "oh yes! If you were to put less---" 😂😂😂 But in the end of the day my dad would still eat the food his family cook. Like when I cooked a fried rice for the first time and it was so so bad, the rice was mushy and tasteless, my dad even ate 2 plates of it. "My lovely daughter cooked this so I would eat it no matter what. Just... please get mom's assisstance next time" 😂
He's able to tell sweet lies to his wife for like 10 minutes straight but cracks and tells the truth right away to a random stranger knocking on his door lmao- 7:10.
Archnid 001 there is a difference between honest people and abusive people who beat up their wife. I love Japanese culture and how polite they are, but being blunt isn’t always bad. Some people prefer truth over sweet lies. Those people are just less sensitive.
Magic probably because he could tell right away , like seriously who in the world would come knocking at your door , from a popular TV station, jump str8 into askin how ur dinner tasted like ?? Pretty obvious isnt it
This is a real man, always showing deepest respect while still giving subtle hints if something is not to his liking. Hope his wife always has mercy with him, whatever happens, which seems true, looking at her gratitude and admiration in the end of the video. Many thanks for sharing :)
On the one hand, she knows he will always be supportive of her efforts. On the other, now she will question whether any food she's ever made in the past was in fact good or not!
Lol some people think it fake cuz their fellow countryman and them self never seen like this before or they would never act like this before. I have seen good people enough to believe this is believable.
@Archnid 001 Is it true that many people are being bullied in school just because they are bilingual and speak Spanish? i was shocked to hear that. I am not from America. Hearing this makes me sad. I know so many kind American friends by the way.
i remember one time my mom cooked a food that i wasn’t interested in and my father thought the same, i had to watch him struggle eating but he kept a smile in his face and praised my mom for her hard work. my mom is pretty skilled in cooking, just that one time i really didn’t liked the food but my dad was still thankful.
OMG, that is so funny, yet cruel LOL. Japanese pranks are on a whole nother level! The husband is SUCH a gentleman, you can tell he loves his wife very much!
Good family, these kids will grow up happily and will hopefully have good lives. Great wife with a great husband. Both love each other so much. Some say the husband is not being honest but sometimes you just don't want to upset your partner here. He rather suffer something he considers a minor thing rather than to hurt his wife. For Japanese culture I think the wife can be really hurt if the husband doesn't like the food she cooks and can feel really down/stressed and unworthy. In the west and in many other families this may not be the case but in Asian and Japanese families if the wife is the housewife she will feel like she failed terribly as a wife who can't even cook something satisfactory for her partner who is working so hard to provide for the family. The husband most likely knows/sees this and as a result decides to keep it to himself to not upset or make her feel this way. Truly a nice guy and both are just as lucky as each other to find their true love of their life. their friends and family must be so happy for them especially the in laws knowing they have a good son in law. Lets not forget the husband also thought everyone else liked it and he was the only exception. Not to mention he thought his wife put a lot of effort and 2 hours of hard work into it. as a result he knows if he said it tasted bad he would hurt her feelings very much.
I`m the same. When I visited my parents in Canada, my father had these beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL steaks (I live in Japan, no steaks like that here) but he over cooked it waaaaaaay too much. Tough, hard meat. Not beautiful anymore. And I`m thinking "fuck...this sucks!!" But I didn`t say anything. I will not complain when someone is feeding me...giving me food for free. That would be horrible!!
BIG UPMOST RESPECT for the husband and to his parents for bringing up this kind of a gentleman that would not try to break his wife's heart. Teaching me to be thankful of every little things done or given by my partner.
Awww he's one dedicated and sweet husband ;) though maybe next time just tell her that it's not good, I would like my husband to say something if the food taste like crap, this way I can improve on my cooking skills lol :)
Hope, I've been trying to say something for years... That's why I made this RUclips account and replied here, maybe you'll notice. Please can we order take out from now on?
Absolutely not. He tried to be nice but he wasn't trying to lie. He thought that his wife had turned bitter and no longer loved him so he was sad. That's why he was crying to find out that it was not the case. The way a woman cooks is the most passive way to communicate love or hate for who she cooks for and women have done this for all time, either showing love or hate through the way they cook. So it was much more than just the prank to him.
This guys is just one of a kind, imagine going home tired and he still has the energy to eat something like that in addition he never once complained about the food he even praised it.

I had never seen a husband so kind to his wife, and appreciative of her cooking . That's an amazing attitude.

I am pretty sure not even one person in the U.S. would even expect you to have harvested vegetables, raised and butchered a cow, etc. when you say you cooked beef stew from scratch!!!

yep, here I am.. I came here expect to laugh but ended up crying.. fuck
Ara Alfa me too...haha.
my husband will just blantly say my cooking is not delicious when it is not delicious. this guy is a good husband
but theres a problem with that logic if you cook something horrible and lets say your husband says its amazing you will keep making the horrible thing and he will hate you deep down
That's true, but MAYBE this guy would make subtle hints to his wife for her not to cook it again.
I'm the same as your husband but I do it so she can improve her cooking. I'm still careful with my words ofcourse.

The Man I was venting about how ridiculous I felt the comments on here were (who likes a dishonest person!?) before I saw your explanation.

Very true

There's a famous Japanese old saying like this.
「嘘も方便」usomohouben
Absolutely not. He tried to be nice but he wasn't trying to lie. He thought that his wife had turned bitter and no longer loved him so he was sad. That's why he was crying to find out that it was not the case. The way a woman cooks is the most passive way to communicate love or hate for who she cooks for and women have done this for all time, either showing love or hate through the way they cook. So it was much more than just the prank to him.
Such a gentleman and a good husband! I sure do hope in the end he won a nice gift for enduring this prank.
