Hi Tank Nuts! We hope you enjoyed reliving some of David Fletcher's Tank Chats. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Tell Mr. Fletcher we miss him and hope he’s doing well!
Nice to have some vintage David. I won't pretend to be his biggest fan but I do miss his very unique style!
Yeah Mr Fletcher!
Who’s the new narrator then?
the tog 2 is big wow
"Was actually coined by, whatsisname, uhh.....Field Marshal Montgomery" 😂 love this man
Everyone's tank grandad 😊
A thirty-nine minute tank chat hosted by Mr. Fletcher? Yes please! Sign me up!
It's a clip show of old episodes
@@Arbiter099 Still, they all hang well together as one vid. Always good to have Fletch on the PC screen.
Rumour is, when he eventually shuffles off to the parade square in the sky, oft referred to as Valhalla. His earthly remains will be stuffed and mounted in his very own display at the Bovi Tank Museum. I for one will be sure to salute as I pass by.
@@gusgone4527idk I think his chats are pretty bad
He glosses over or just fails to cover the super important bits about a tanks development
I think David Willie does a 100000x better job if you're actually trying to learn the context behind a tanks development
@@fishjohn014 Okie dokie. You should read Fletcher's books. Quite the well respected fellow in the tank history world. 😁👍
I'm a simple man; I see David, I click "like".
The FV4005 really looks like a comically upgunned KV2.
The FV4005 looks so ridiculous that it alone is worth a visit to the Tank Museum
The FV4005 is the only tank I really use in World of tanks it’s crazy 😜 I thought it was a Conway 🤔
@@BlaBla-pf8mfThe FV4005 looks like it should be housed at a naval museum. Think about it. The largest warship the Brits preserved was Belfast, a 152 mm gunned light cruiser. The FV4005 packs a 183 mm gun. If the Brits had had that thing back in 1939 they could have strapped it to the deck of one of their ships & used it to hunt the Graf Spee…
Yeah to the point where when I saw it in a music video I thought it was the KV-2 😂
@@grahamstrouse1165 HMS Exeter mounted six 8 inch (203mm) guns when she fought Graf Spee. Except for HMS York all modern British heavy cruisers mounted 8 inch guns
David's right about the conqueror being noisy, you could hear them coming down the Tank Rd in Osnabrück for miles, the whole road shook as they passed. We kids loved them and often cycled down to the Tank Park in Dodesheide just to watch them.
Only the gods know what the E. Germans and Red Army thought about them and they aren't telling. I served in BAOR and I'm pleased the Cold War never turned hot. It would have been a good old scrap.
i was in Imphal in the late 70s,with the Skins, and Cheiftain wasnt much quieter
@stevenbreach2561 Oh I know Steven, I was in HQ 20 Bde in 71 and the 9th/12th Lancers had them, but somehow they were not quite as awesome, that's when they were actually running and not broken down. 😀 I was a little kid in the '50's when we saw the Conq's so maybe I was more impressionable then.
@stevenbreach2561 I was there with the Skins (or more accurately the Skins LAD) around the same time, with B Sqn (Patrick Cordingley). A few years later came back to 12 Armd Wksp just up the hill from Imphal.
That's my dad at 30:50 (Bottom, far right) "Jim" he served out in West Germany. He always had lots of stories to tell about his time with the biggest tank in the world!
The greatest generation
We have a conqueror at the Gunfire museum in Brasschaat Belgium. I did a short video on it a couple of years ago. If ok with the tank museum YT channel manager (reply to this post), I'll post a link in the comment - not looking for free publicity. It's the biggest tank we have in the museum and I love it because it's just so massive.
Doesn't matter if I've seen these again. I just like listening to Fletcher talk about tanks.
David Fletcher is an international treasure!
Always a pleasure to chat with Mr. Fletcher .
Mr. Fletcher is a gem to listen to. Throughly enjoyed this
Tank Santa has blessed us with an early Christmas gift I see. Glad to see David again.
That FIRST tank would be dangerous against Naval Vessels cruising too close to shore!!🤪
It was built around an old naval gun, so yeah! 183 mm=7.2”.
That was a 40 minute treat with David Fletcher. Loved this. I was not familiar with Conquerer at all before this video. It reminds me a bit of the M48 Patton. Long overdue a visit to Bovington!
I love tank chats with David Fletcher ! Miss him !
The 6th man in the TOG2 was responsible for managing the internal pub and making the tea and biscuits.
Good to hear David Fletcher again, he has a wealth of information and anecdotes on tanks.
I thought for a moment you had Mr Fletcher back on the team. This is a treat nevertheless.
I love David Fletcher's quips about tanks, always good times =]
Always a pleasure to see the master discussing tanks!
I miss Tank Chats with David, I hope he does well.
What? Mr David Fletcher? Praise the Lord! The Mustasch of all tank knowledge is back!!!!! Bless you Mr Fletcher!
Those tanks are so big that Mr. Fletcher could do his daily calisthenics inside them....jumping jacks included! 😃
Nice to see Mr. Fletcher again! 👍
1:40 nice superimposition fade. my compliments to the film crew
Had I had known it was David Fletcher presenting I would have watched sooner! Thanks for putting these reviews together into a larger piece, really well done.
I've missed Uncle Fletcher. Hope you're doing well.
I was half expecting to find a comment saying "Actually, the Sturmtiger had the largest caliber gun."
The Sturmtiger's oilbarrel flinger wasn't a gun, so there's that.
@@johanmetreus1268 Exactly my point
Also, that definitely wasn't a tank so isn't in the running 😅
@@Theduckwebcomics I was making a joke about World of Tanks players but multiple people have missed the joke and were like "erm actually ☝️🤓"
@@MberEnder So, you got WoTed out?
This channel is mostly responsible for my goal to eventually travel to the UK to visit this museum.
Marvellous stuff, miss old David Fletcher, good to see him.
Always good to see our friend David Fletcher
5 heavy tanks? More like 5 heavy tanks featuring the legend David Fletcher.
Nice to see Fletch back on the screen. Interesting subject.
What a superb surprise. David Fletcher returns 😊 God love the tank museum
MoD: "What's the silliest gun you can put on a tank?"
Engineers: "yes."
See my comments above about why it made sense at the time
The comments Mr Fletcher has for TOG2 are just damn right hilarious :)
TOG2, everyone's favorite World of Tanks Party Tank. TOG2 is always happy, TOG2 always knows how to have fun, especially when in a party of TOG2s.
The wealth of knowledge these guys have is astounding.
A nice recap compilation, enjoyed it. Please do some more new ones though. I'd love to see a Tank Chat on the Sherman M4A2E8, Viking, Harry Hopkins, Su-100 or the M60 Patton!
I'm so glad I was told about this channel (through a Swedish podcast called Krigshistoriepodden in case any fellow Swedes here haven't heard of it).
Sixth crew member in the TOG was there to make the tea and sweep the floor. 😉
The Challenger turret had 2 loaders so the turret had 4 people in it.
The DECK, mind you. And the fifth member was actually not a co-driver, but a motorist running the engine. The driver only needed to shout something like "Full speed ahead!" and steer occasionally.
Fascinating as always Mr Fletcher. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge.
Nice to see Mr David Fletcher back on screen again. Re the 40 ton Chieftain, the engine used, Meteorite MK 202 B, same as the Antar. Suggestion, now i know what i am about to suggest is not technically Tanks. It is however the means of transporting them. Maybe the Museum could look at purchasing Tank Transporters and put a Tank on a trailer for display. Working from recent to past, the Oshkush, still in service so probably a no no. Scammel Commander, Antar and previous versions used in WW2. I think that a couple of Tank Transporters would be a great asset and attraction to the Tank Museum
The Meteorite looks compact enough that you could swap it into a Ford F-150. 🙂
Thank you. Vintage David Fletcher. Myth busting and all😁!
I love the look of the Conqueror! great video as always!
This is a very informative and entertaining video, Mr. Fletcher!
Great video thanks
Sure miss you, Mr Fletcher. Hope you are happy in your retirement, sir.
2:03 Mr Hewes recently bought a similar Centurion with the gun removed, future project of his !!
Thanks for the great video!👍
The TOG II* chat is a little out of date. They've since learned it's not a 17pdr. It's some form of 3.7" gun (internet says 28pdr). Museum already knows, but alas I think this is an old recording of David Fletcher.
Looking at the TOG, without any suspension it would have been very hard on the crew. I can say that because I frequently use a Elevated Work Platform vehicle at work which has no suspension and I get bounced around as I drive it around the grounds at about the same speed as the TOG was capable of. I certainly wouldn't like to spend a prolonged amount of time in a vehicle like TOG, being jostled and jolted and otherwise bruised as I travel around on uneven surfaces. No Thank You!

I'm really not liking these AI-generated thumbnails. Please go back to the previous style!
it’s ai generated?
@@MS-qx9uw It was on the day it uploaded, now it seems they've changed it.
The Sixth Man shoveled Coal into the boiler. They got that off the same Battleship they it the gun ! Lmao
6:30 - I LOVE the look and slope of the turret on this beast.
Its new to me and thank you!
Another fantastic chat with Mr Fletcher
The Gents over at Tank Museum consummate professionals , very good indeed.
I think the Sturmtiger has the biggest calber gun ever fitted on a tank.
Strictly speaking, the Sturmtiger had a rocket projector, not a gun.
Thank you, the chat was very interesting and informative,
I though I had read somewhere that the gun on the TOG II was a 20 instead of a17 pdr or at least something bigger than 17 pdr.
"The design included a 6-pounder gun and side sponsons. For "initial trials" it was fitted with a mockup turret with dummy guns - a 2-pdr gun, 3-inch howitzer and a Besa machine gun - together with a 3-inch howitzer in the hull. The second turret fitted was simplified mounting a QF 3-inch 16 cwt anti-tank gun derived from the current anti-aircraft gun.
In 1942 the tank was given a turret that was under development for the Cruiser Mk VIII Challenger tank design with the QF 17-pounder (76.2 mm) gun. The turret "in modified form" was used on the Challenger. The planned sponsons were never fitted"
"One of loudest tank ever loosed on the Public"
You don't have to do it like that man.....its a good boy !
Thanks!
Nice amalgamation of Frankentanks you got there! :D
Another excellent tank chat. The conqueror seems like it would be a hoot to take a ride in.
From talking to REME instructors when under training in the seventies it was clear the Conqueror was not a loved vehicle by users or REME.
Good old Tog 2..👍👍
I love this guy. His commentary is great!
Please do a video on evaluation of tank doctrines
We need more fam the tank man. Such a good narrator
Nice to see Mr. Fletcher in good nick!
32:17 What do you mean though, it was never tested, but documents that tested its gun and ammunition suggested that it would be adequate at taking out Russian heavy tanks as far as 2km
The tank museum itself released documentation on the Conquerors armor scheme and its turret had as much as 250mm sloped armor which very few russian heavy tanks would be able to penetrate, they didnt use APDS until much later
Great video no bull from this old lad
He keeps going and the credits just start to roll at some point. lol
The mustache stricks again! Good to see you sir!
Now these are some TONKS!
I genuinely thought the thumbnail was a Temu ad lol
I love the conqueror it’s my favourite tank, especially in world of tanks. I rly wish I could see this one in running order or see the duxford one on the move
I miss Fletcher and his awesome mustache, love from sweden :D
That was quite interesting
God that first turret belongs on a Destroyer.
I don't know who the elder gentleman at the begining of the show is, but Seeing him made me subscibe on impulse alone.
FV4005 is IN-SANE!
I never realised that the TOG2 was a hybrid
2nd! This ought to be good, heavy unpractical beasts...
Is it true that if the FV 4005 shot its gun sideways it would flip over? I've read it somewhere and i'm very curious about it...
I hope Mr Fletcher is doing alright, i for one miss him...
awww yeaaaaah our boy david is back
this man was funny and informative
thank you
The 40 ton Centurian may have gone to Isreal when the Canadians sent their surplus to requirement Centurians went. Many of these became a version of the kangaroo APC.
Colonel Sanders really knows his stuff. 😂
I miss David Fletcher’s wit and absolutely no bs.
Cheers guys you made my week. 👍🤣😂🤣🤣👍
Poor old Centurion tank 2 in chat has a broken left paw, that the camera can’t hide. 😂
I will never not be impressed by Conqueror. Almost obscenely huge.
I'm destitute so it'd be nice to know how much it costs to joiin. Thanks though. Good see you've dusted off Fletcher !
the FV4202 is my favorite British designed tank. Also like the Daimler Mk2 2 pdr. Those are the only two British AFVs I like.
The British weren't wrong about the gun being superior to the missile on a tank. As a gun is a fire and forget weapon, it can kill multiple targets in the time it takes for a missile to fly down range to kill one. This is what killed the M551 - Gen Donn Starry (The US Army's Mr Armor) made a presentation to the Army staff showing that the Shillelagh couldn't kill tanks fast enough in an anticipated Soviet invasion of Western Europe, so the Sheridan couldn't do its job to attrit the first wave. Plus, the gun's competition in the 183mm case was early wire guided missiles that had to be FLOWN to their targets - not an easy feat. In 1973, the Arabs had to bring truck mounted training sets up to just behind the front - in the middle of a war - to provide enough practice for the Sagger gunners to maintain their proficiency. Another major thing that changed in favor of guns was that guns and projectiles improved, so within a few years a 105mm gun firing modern APDS could do all that a monster could do, if not more. SACLOS systems like TOW eliminated that, but the time of flight problem still remained. Fire and forget weapons like Javelin may eliminate that consideration, but the gun is flexible, capable of firing multiple types of ammunition.
I understand the 56th heavy artillery regiment in WW2 were using 7.2" Gun Howitzers perhaps that first tank gun is related to them. They did have an AP round for that gun.
The original 7.2 howitzer was a relined Kaiser war 8 inch. This what was shown in the video. This version was eventually supplemented by new build ordnance mounted on US supplied carriages as used on the US 155mm Gun and 8 Inch Howitzer.
