I think to fully appreciate Taylor, you have to understand that when she writes a song, she doesn’t just put words to paper or music - she’s thinking already of how she will perform it, how the “vibe” she wants to convey looks like, how she would do a music video (I’m fairly confident she wrote “Look what you made me do” with the entire MV already in her mind. She’s a theater kid. She likes all aspects of performing and it’s how she writes her music. I feel like when she wrote this song, specifically regarding the burning witches, she could see in her minds eye how she wanted to visually convey it.

I would recommend watching the rep tour as a whole if you can, the reputation album was designed to be toured and is 10000% better live.
