Great choice!! You got a beauty that has great options. Welcome to the air cooled world. Expect to spend 5-10k to get her fully sorted. All work can be done by yourself and some jack stands if you can DIY. Such an easy car to work on. After that it will just be general maintenance. I spent around 10k on parts/tools. Two months of my labor time and redid my entire car. Purrs like a kitten and there is nothing like an air cooled Porsche.
Welcome to the club! Subscribed! I went through similar introspection to end up right where you are. The 993 C4S is the only car I have ever missed once I sold mine 14 years ago...so I bought another one at a premium in January of this year. No regrets!
Very nice example and you bought from RL which is a good move. Lots can be done with this car if you want to dig deep. I just finished rebuilding my 96 993 NB engine and the project is still going on (Green Hornet Project on RL). Best of luck.
I had the same experience in 2015 when i bought a r32 gtr because theyve always been relatively cheap in NZ, i ended up selling it to buy another car and havent stopped regretting it

First came across your channel about 2-3 videos before you did a video on the RX7 was sold. That RX7 was one well put together sick looking Mazda. I agree would have been better with the rotary than LS swap. Congrats on your decision to get the Porsche. Don't think you can go wrong with this purchase. Cool thing about the Porsche game is people do pay for modded Porsches that are done well, so even if you do decide to go a little crazy should be able to recoup or make a little money.
Thanks man!! The RX7 was honestly too much experimentation on my part. That's what happens when you have something and it's not really your end goal, you don't know where to go with it... I want to do things a lot more differently with this 911. Much more focused upgrades with a less is more approach!

What you're saying about introspection and repetition really resonated with me too. 2020 has been a real write off for me, not just the pandemic but my life in general, I'm prepared to really grind and make things improve for 2021. Even if that means my car takes a little bit of a backseat :)
They're hard for sure cars to get into but they definitely have lasting appeal once you do. Having your car take a backseat is totally fine... I had to force myself to do the same since I was too caught up in a constant loop. That made me do things out of habit. It's ALL about putting in work... but I think it's equally important to invest that work into the RIGHT thing. Gotta evolve and look up, not down!

Unfortunately for you, Porsche is entirely in its own 'tuning world', has its own unbelievably elite/prestige culture (good and bad) complete with back-dating etc.. lol good luck man, you might have opened up a can of worms worse than any other you have ever even dreamed of.
I'm with you on only modifying cars you will keep. I've never under stood those who have had 5, 10, 20+ cars by 25-30 yrs old. I only have 1 modified car that I know I'll never sell, it's a turbocharged FRS my wife has a '17 wrx both paid for. Right now at 30 I'm looking to buy the FD rx7 (my dream car) which will be another vehicle I'll put all my time into. These two cars I will be old and grey with them still in my garage. The cars that change for me would be the daily's. Right now that car for me is a 2006 tc completely stock 175k mi it's purely for taking me to work and back and I won't get another daily til this one dies. The wife and I make way over Californias median household, however I know cars are liabilities not investments (most cars and especially most brand new ones) I could easily have a Lexus or bmw as a daily but I just have my priorities on family and housing. I wish more people would think long term these days, I'm glad you have your head in the right place bro and beautiful Porsche 👌 sooo clean.

I've definitely had and gone through carefree car phases. I agree, they're great value and fun for what they are, but I still don't think they are replacements for that one car you REALLY want. They are by definition a compromise and won't have that long term appeal. Having a carefree car as a second car is an awesome thing IMO.
Another FD down. : * ( Beautiful work though. Decent condition air-cooled 911s are waaay more common than FDs. Vast majority of FDs have been tracked, hacked up, gutted, kitted, stanced, overmodified, etc. Porsche owners take much better care of their cars. EDIT: Never feel bad about the cars you have owned in the past! Owning lots of cars and then eventually settling down with the one you want is the best way to go IMO, that way you get the widest range of experience. Best of both worlds.

No offense bro, you seem like a smart guy but I think you're overlooking flaws in your own intrinsic need to play with cars. You say car choice is imperative, but let's say you went the other route, today you'd be making a vid about an FD RX-7. Its hard to believe you based on your track record. The truth is, you were not mature and making immature choices, it happens bro. Had you bought that porsche, it would have been modded and sold, I'm basing that on your vids, might be wrong. That was my experience and what I learned.
For sure my own proclivities and habits dictate these paths the most, but I still feel that the car choice itself controls the positioning of the relative goal posts. If I got the Porsche back then, I very likely would have modded it to a good extent, but I HIGHLY doubt I would have modded it to as much of an extent as what I did with the FD. The FD just "needed" it. Even today, I have no qualms about modding a car heavily and constantly have that itch, but I'm not doing it with the 911. And it's not entirely because I really matured all that much, it's because the car just doesn't need it like the FD or AE86 or Exige did. If I bought a Chaser or something JDM, you better believe that thing is going to get torn up.
