I used to Box for 3 yrs, Did Kenpo/Karate for 3 yrs (Karate is useless and stupid, the Kenpo is applicable.) I did Small Circle Ju Jitsu for a yr with a lot of knife and gun defense. But then I found my discipline.... JUDO. I LOVE IT.. It just clicks with me and it's my favorite discipline I ever studied. I have been training about a year in it but then got a shoulder injury and was out. I am good to go now and CORONAVIRUS. Honestly I would still roll with whoever was ready to roll. Standing, ground whatever I just need to spar someone lol. I'm going nuts.

I believe The Raid started the renaissance of clear and fluid action sequence in movies, and of course the natural and solid martial arts usage is one of the most important aspect.

Jujitsu and judo are one sport. Its better to use both then one. As you saw since John wick only used Judo he couldn't keep his opponent on the floor after the throw so the oppenent managed to get back up again. But John wick is smart so he usually just takes the time to create distance after the throw so he can use his gun.

If Judo is just Ju-Jitsu with the really dangerous techniques removed then the original Ju-Jitsu as done by the ancient Samurai must have been absolutely lethal.As a young man I did competitive Judo and I know first hand that getting picked up and slammed down onto a hard floor really fucking hurts and when you add the chokes and joint locks it adds up to a serious combat system that has, in my opinion never been given the recognition it deserves, people are too easily seduced by flashy moves that look so good on screen but are less useful in reality and thus underestimate the system, the same goes for Boxing, people think its clumsy and crude, just two guys pummelling away at each other but anyone who has studied it knows that boxing is way more sophisticated than it looks to an outsider.

Basically, Jiu Jitsu was the original Samurai martial art. Judo is just taking old Jiu Jitsu, and making it safe and repeatable which it originally wasn't.
By the way, after Judo's creation in early Japan (I believe), in competitions, because Judo (the modified Jiu Jitsu at the time) was much more repeatable, they got much more practice out of it, would almost always defeat Jiu Jitsu.
kimmio ok. Jiu jitsu is the Brazilian spelling. Jujutsu is on of the correct spellings for the Japanese dialect. Jujutsu was the samurai art of war. Judo is the G rated version of jujutsu safe enough for sport. Brazilian Jiu jitsu is actually half of judo. The ground related half.
Im grading for my yellow belt and Ippon seio nage is in the course. I've always found this technique tricky. Part of my grading is also Tai Otoshi. Tai Otoshi I got to grips with quite easily but seoi nage, especially when paired with a smaller guy is really tricky. Any tips would be nice 😊
Aikido is not closely related to judo, in fact it is not a martial art at all. There IS plenty of jiu jitsu in John Wick. Aikido is glorified gymnastics. :)

hello, i have been practicing judo for 16 years and i am a second degree black belt (nidan) there were some mistakes, but great work overall: 1:15 hiza guruma (again) 1:20 this is supposed to be sumi otoshi but it isnt performed very well, he doesn't really drop (which is required of the throw, due to the throw translating literally to 'corner drop'. (sumi = throw, otoshi = drop) 1:25 morote gari (double-leg takedown), not ura nage. ura nage requires you to physically pick them up and twist 2:31 once again, otoshi requires you to drop or wont work. i can see why you labeled it uki otoshi but the stuntwork's execution is pretty bad 2:46 this isn't kata te jime. kata te jime is a one-handed choke. in fact im not even sure what the dude is doing he's not even actually choking him with anything hes just holding onto his collar 2:55 nidan ko soto gari requires a reap and to be from the front, facing the opponent. he is not reaping, he is sweeping, thus it's an ashi technique. this is really just okuri ashi harai (two-legged foot sweep) from the back rather than the front. 3:00 this is ippon seoi otoshi because he drops down, although both are acceptable (and -nage is usually used more commonly, but its technically otoshi) 3:08 this is not seoi nage whatsoever. this is koshi guruma (hip-wheel, as seoi nage means 'shoulder throw'. you can see john use his hip was a platform to wheel he /wheels/ the guy over). because of his grip, you could also argue its tsurikomi goshi but i'd inclined to say no because of points prior. 3:15 ippon seoi otoshi, because he drops 3:20 this is iffy because there's very little chance this would work whatsoever, its kinda bullshido, but yeah closest is sumi otoshi imo 3:25 te gaeshi is not a throw. this is just sumi gaeshi (corner-counter), although i'd title it 'yoko sumi gaeshi' because its from the side (yoko = side/horizontal, meaning the full throw name is side-corner sacrifice) 3:39 kata te jime but done horribly like seriously this isnt choking him at all. if john wanted to finish this choke, he could have turned in kosh jime, aka known as 'clock choke' or 'hip choke' (just google it and you can see what i mean)

Yes. the difference between Kotogaeshi and SumiOtoshi or UkiOtoshi is that Kotogaeshi has a wrist lock, but this is not allowed in Judo. Kotogaeshi means wrist inversion. SumiOtoshi is falling in the corner and UkiOtoshi is pinch fall. They are very similar to each other. In SumiOtoshi and UkiOtoshi is thrown by the elbow, but it can be in the wrist as well.
One thing i dont get is at 0:36 the henchmen could let go and try to hold john from the inside. I'm guessing John is trying to grab him to break and throw.

The title of this should be Ju-Jitsu in John Wick 2. Judo is a sport. The way this is applied, the blending of all techniques including throws/footsweeps, and takedowns, is far more in line with traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu than Judo. All Japanese arts including Judo evolved from Ju-Jitsu.

The title of this should be Ju-Jitsu in John Wick 2. Judo is a sport. The way this is applied, the blending of all techniques including throws/footsweeps, and takedowns, is far more in line with traditional Japanese Ju-Jitsu than Judo. All Japanese arts including Judo evolved from Ju-Jitsu.

I see some incidental aikido too. Probably, the choreographers had a broad knowledge, not just one or two styles.
All of the named techniques are Judo Tachi and Ne Waza. Some of the really nicely executed, too.
