The 4 day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu, Peru

  • This challenging trek takes 4 days and crosses 43 kilometres of the Andes Mountains attaining a height of 4,200 at Dead Woman's Pass. It takes you past Inca cities and fortresses, through various environments including cloud forest and highland jungle and traverses some very steep descents over uneven stone steps. The scenery is magnificent. Our trekking group numbered eight people, from Ireland, Argentina and Brazil, and was booked through tour company, Intense Peru, with Camping Tours doing the actual trek. Our guide, Elistan, was excellent and our team of 10 porters carried heavy loads each day to ensure that every comfort was provided for us en route. We were very grateful to these hard working Quechua men from the highlands. The arrival at the Sun Gate on the final day just as dawn breaks over the nearby mountain tops to gently bathe Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, in golden light, is a sight that will be forever seared into your memory.
    Music tracks are:
    Yarihuanqui: Musica Andina
    B.J.Thomas: Raindrops keep falling on my head
    Kalamarka: Wawitay
    Wara wara: Musica Instrumental Andina
    Gheorghe Zamfir: The Lonely Shepherd
    Inti Illimani: Dolencias
    Wayanay: Virgines del Sol
    Pan Pipe Spirits: Don't Cry For Me Argentina
    Altiplano: El Valle de La Luna
    Incantation: On Earth As It Is In Heaven

    I just finished the Inca trail. I am 53 and in good shape. I trained hard to get in even better shape to walk the trail. Day one isn't too bad compared to the rest of the trail. Day two is very hard. Day three and four aren't much easier.
    Bring a good pair of walking sticks. Its like climbing a crooked stone step ladder for six hours a day. More if you choose to do the trail in three days which I strongly advise against. Who wants to start their day at 2 am. Why rush?
    Please follow the advice of our guide who told us that we would be doing everything, "Slow, slow." Be in the moment every step of the way. Look around every few steps. Absorb the details. Smile at yourself. You are there. Be there. Think of nothing but what you are viewing. Its a very special place.

      BlueShaman'sFriend I'm turning 62 just before we leave for Brazil, walking the inca trail early September, training on hills and stairs, we have poles, I walked the 4 day Milford track in NZ, my only problem was a blister between my little toe and the next one, so I have socks with individual toes, and fleece which is wrapped around and stops blisters,so hopefully we'll be OK. Just need the weather to be kind

      Someone told me going barefoot at home helps as it builds up the pads on the bottom of your feet. I would agree.
      You will fine. Remember, lots a lots of people complete this trek. Our guide said the only thing that can stop a trip is torrential rain. He said then it becomes to dangerous. You are going to have the time of your life!

    Thanks for uploading this wonderful video of the inca trail. Great views, I especially liked the thanks the tourist gave to the porters, they really do a great job, and I think they don't get paid as much, they are poor people from that area, they are really the heroes of this treks.

    I share my enthusiasm with the owner of this video for I myself experienced the challenging 4 day trek and surpassing the Dead Woman's Pass to Machu Picchu. The experienced was amazingly beautiful, life changing, gaining new friends from all over the world w/c you shares passion for the love of nature ,learning what is left behind by those who came us first and stepping in their footsteps .I highly recommend to whoever didnt experience this yet ,don't let it pass ,you will be amaze what this trek to offer ,not only the country is beautiful but also the Peruvian people specially the people in the Andes mountain or Sacred Valley and the people who lives in the Peruvian Amazon.

    • @koko1494
      @koko1494 8 лет назад

      +Cofra Vega depends on what you want ,if you just like to hike Machu Picchu the cost is lesser than a thousand or less but if you combine a trip to the amazon and galapagos then it's much more money.I travelled solo and when I booked, I asked for 1person accommodation for the hotel and tent accommodation to Machu Picchu so I payed a little extra.

    This is nice video of the 4 days Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. I had the privilege of doing it twice thus far, and plan on doing it once again in a couple of years, when my kids are old enough to join me.
    Paying for a service that will get you tickets, meals, tents and a guide is well worth it. We even had a couple of happy hours upon arrivals to our camp sites on the second and third days.

    Thanks a million for this wonderful video! I hiked the trail in 1987 when i was young and you did not need a guide . U rented a tent and bought food in Cuzco main square. The second day to the highest pass was challenging but with coca leaves it helped. Hiked to Wayna picchu but remember how steep and dangerous was the hike . But the icing on the cake was to arrive at MP early morning before anyone and having the place to yourself sort of! I guess a lot of people hike it these days

      Hi Paul, Thanks for your kind comments. We're just glad that we managed to get enough film together to make a record of this amazing trek so fellow travellers can see what lies ahead of them. The Argentinian lady in the film made a very emotional speech as she presented the tips we had collected to our Quechua porters on the final night. She found the second day especially hard and nearly gave up. One woman had already dropped out of our group. However, she proved to be a real trooper and carried on to finish the trek. Lovely memories.

    Great to see this - I hiked this trail in 2001 at 50 easily the oldest in my group. This video really recaptured the experience. I remember the different sections really well - most especially the extraordinary effort of the approach to the first pass on day two! The only disappointment for us was that, when we arrived at the Sun Gate after all that effort, Machu Picchu was completely enshrouded in mist. Otherwise what a fantastic experience.

    Really good video, and very useful thanks. We're doing the trail in August and although we feel pretty ready for it, it's great to be able to prepare ourselves just that little bit better, having now also tagged along for the ride with you both on this film! Some nagging questions about weather, camps and kit now answered! My next strategic decision will be about how to manage battery life on camera and GoPro! I'll give your blog a read in my tea break tomorrow.

      Thanks, Christian, we're glad you found the video useful. We took along a solar powered battery charger that was attached to one of our day packs which ensured that we had enough juice in the cameras to take shots of Machu Picchu! Best of luck with the trek. Enjoy!

    ABOUT THE INCA TRAIL MACHU PICCHU
    The Inca Trail is the most mythical and mystical trek of all, four days of trekking that gives you an incomparable experience, such as reaching the Puerta del Sol (Intipunku) or the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
    Well, although there are hundreds of beautiful walks in Peru, this is the only one that comes directly to Machu Picchu. Other alternative and popular treks are the Salkantay our Salcantay and Lares; The first reaches the hydroelectric and then Machu Picchu Pueblo, below the citadel; And the second arrives in Ollantaytambo, from where the train leaves.
    But if you want a unique encounter with Machu Picchu, you have to go up and suffer a little.

    Hermoso video Martin. Que alegría que hayan disfrutado la experiencia de pisar suelo Inca. Espero que mis compatriotas los hayan tratado bien, porque como sabes, en todo lugar hay gente buena y gente mala. Les envío un abrazo desde Perú. (Beautiful video Martin. What joy you have enjoyed the experience of stepping Inca ground. I hope my countrymen have been good, because as you know, everywhere there are good people and bad people. I send a hug from Peru.)

    • @Kernowclimber
      @Kernowclimber 10 лет назад

      We didn't have time to explore the city and also climb Huayna Picchu. Plus, you have to book this climb months in advance as the numbers allowed to ascend the mountain each day are limited.
