  • I created this roundabout traffic light simulation video for Boboye Engineering. This is used to demonstrate how their Roundabout Traffic Light Navigation system will work.
    I created it with Blender and AfterEffects.

    I discovered roundabouts when driving in Ireland in the spring - they're awesome for keeping the traffic moving. I welcome them here. Excellent video demonstration.

      How does it keep traffic moving if it is controlled by traffic lights? If you're going to have traffic lights, you might as well just have regular lanes and not a roundabout.

      @@margomckaine78 A "roundabout" with traffic lights isn't a roundabout but a traffic circle. What makes a roundabout a roundabout is the lack of traffic lights and the usage of yield signs instead.

    Vehicles from access roads are included in the rotor traffic, respecting the right of priority for vehicles already moving with the rotor. The advantages of the rotor compared to other forms of single-level transitions are increased safety due to the lower speed of the vehicle passing through it and better visibility and higher throughput.

    Traffic lights defy the purpose of a roundabout. And where are your pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes?

    I have never seen a traffic signaled roundabout before, I thought roundabouts were an alternative to traffic lights, but not both at the same time.

    • @johnclements6614
      @johnclements6614 2 года назад

      Traffic signaled roundabouts are used to control the amount of traffic entering the roundabout.
      This is has very old fashioned lane marking alignments. They normally have a spiral type alignment now. So those turning left would start off at the centre then spiral out to the middle lane before the second exit then the outside and off to the left.

    Ono što me uvijek izbacuje je koncept "izlaska iz unutarnje trake". Da biste to postigli, uvijek u posljednjoj sekundi prelazite vanjsku traku što uzrokuje zbunjenost.

    Pero, pero, pero... a que ingeniero con su mente lúcida se le ha ocurrido semejante tontería, eso y lo que hay actualmente es lo mismo, no se soluciona el problema de los vehículos que van por el carril exterior siempre aunque vayan a dar una vuelta completa, estorbando a los vehículos que circulan por los carriles interiores. A ver si este ingeniero aprende un poco de la TURBO-ROTONDA del modelo holandés (ruclips.net/video/LD5TmVc0o4E/видео.html)

    If there's 3-lane roundabout, what's better for managing traffic is this:
    Right lane for right turns and straight ahead only, middle lane for straight ahead and left turn only, and left lane for left turn and U-turn only. How safe is that suggestion? Also, drivers must yield to pedestrians.
    Edit: Whatever you do, changing lanes in the circle is illegal. Turn signals are required.

    Here is what I never understand about a multilane roundabout. If you want to turn left, then you have to go to the inside lane which means that you have to change lanes twice before you exit. So first of all, why do some people say that you can't change lanes. How are you supposed to get out of the inside lane without changing lanes?
    Secondly, I always thought that drivers were told not to change lanes on sharp curves because your sight distance is limited . Usually when a driver approaches a section of a multilane road with a curve in it, the lines between lanes change from a dotted white line to a solid white line to tell drivers not to change lanes in that section of road. A roundabout is a circle which is obviously curvy. Therefore isn't it dangerous to change lanes on a roundabout, but if you wish to turn left it is unavoidable. I keep hearing people talk about how roundabouts are so much more efficient and safer than other intersections but this is the biggest flaw to roundabout designs.

    • @jaunie8217
      @jaunie8217 2 года назад

      Simple. If you want to turn left, make sure you get to the left lane before entering the circle.

    • @RichardHartl
      @RichardHartl Год назад

      Agreed that's something I've never understood. It isn't obvious to me that you're meant to change lanes while in the roundabout

    • @RichardHartl

      @jaunie I don't think you read his question, it's something I've found confusing. Why is that car changing lanes for the left turn inner lane?

      yeah, it's pretty bad here. we think the brake pedal is only for coming to a complete stop. slowing down will just get you flipped-off

    • @RichardHartl
      @RichardHartl Год назад

      Lol yeah I'm in Canada, same road design, your jaw would drop at the ridiculous number of traffic lights and stop signs in the City of Toronto. They're like "why does nothing move here?" and most people here just don't know any better. It's because we have a road network that a 5 year old could generally understand as we tend to design for convenience and simplicity rather than trusting drivers to be smart enough to navigate a more complex yet efficient design. Toronto has almost 3 million people in the city boundaries and you could probably count its tiny insignificant and obscure roundabouts on just barely over one hand.
      In our defence, western Canada especially and certain parts of the rest of the country have many more roundabouts but nothing like the UK. And we sure love our Stop Signs, that's the best we could do 😂 Seriously the UK design is legendary across the world and people bring it up here every now and then out of frustration

    driving is worrisome enough, roundabouts are crazier yet, and the unnecessary distracting background music made this even worse. may all who made motor vehicles and driving a reality burn in hell
