simplicity is key!!! glad you're on board with the Fitzcarraldo Editions! and those Joan Didions are so stunning together! honestly, the pairing of the film photograph of Eve Babitz nude with Duchamp and chess with Play It As It Lays...truly a work of art in itself.
Yay! I’m so happy you did this tag! It was wonderful to see what you choose. I totally agree that simple covers are the best! Minimalism can have some of the greatest impact! Love those Joan Didion editions, especially how they all look side by side. I do not yet own any Fitzcarraldo editions but I’m obsessed with their covers. Oh, I’m even more eager now to buy one soon!
minimalism works better in a bigger collection of books! in my opinion anyway haha. and reba, any fitzcorraldo will look stunning on your shelves. plus, they publish really interesting work!
I discovered your channel yesterday and it has quickly become a new favorite. You have such wonderful taste in books! I have added many of the titles mentioned in your videos to my ever-growing wishlist. Congrats on a great channel. 😎📚👍
Completely agree on the fitzcarraldos being the only answer for simple cover, they're perfect. I also continue to swoon over that cover of Strega and it might be one I splurge for. Have you seen the US cover of Strega? Hideous.
oh, it is so worth it. i just love books as beautiful and interesting objects and strega is one of my favourites! it’s so gorgeous and the design in completely in sync with the writing 🖤
I'm definitely guilty of paying extra for a nice edition/cover. I love the Pantheon Modern Writers series and sought out their editions of 'The Woman Destroyed' & 'Hopscotch'. Their covers are these nice moody/pastel colours with gorgeous pictures/paintings in the middle. I also love hunting for more 'interesting' editions of classics on eBay, Nabokov, Camus, Sartre, Morrison. If you love having books as physical objects, why not have those objects be as visually pleasing as possible? Maybe I'm traumatized from the ugly editions of German classics I had to read in school. I would love to read more Kafka, but the only nice editions you can find are in English, which feels wrong to read since my first language is German ^^ The only decent German one that comes to mind is 'Diogenes', my edition of 'Das Parfüm' by Patrick Süskind.
you’re putting in the work to have a gorgeous collection!!! i love that. i want to put more effort into hunting down beautiful editions but oftentimes my bank balance says i must buy the cheapest option available secondhand haha. oh, i know the pantheon modern covers you are talking about. they’re lovely x

I have a copy of Strega with flowers on the front but I much prefer the green and lavender - so gorgeous and so so fitting for the book!
i know the cover you mean! the green/lavender cover seems to work much better with the writing i think 🤍

thank you! so happy you found your way here ✨
I feel the same way about busy covers. I find them jarring and off putting. Love me a Fitzcarraldo.
simple = better x
oyyyy the uk covers of Batuman are a fucking crime. I often prefer non-american editions, but this one is a BIG exception.
they hurt my eyes ): trying to hide the idiot whilst reading it was such a pain x
after you mentioned strega in a previous video i had to buy the UK one, as the US one did not appeal 🙃 so I feel you !
we are definitely on the same page here haha x
aHEM, regarding simple covers, I talked about the Gallimard white collection covers which are basically the French versions of Fitz covers... 💀
okay! this is absolutely true and you deserve my apologies and for it to be acknowledge that yes, you picked stunningly for that question 👼
@@jameskatie tyty i am vindicated 😆

I stand by my choice of Raven Smiths Men for simple cover choice. 😂
you are entitled to your choices 🥲
Why do dust jackets even exist 😭
Tho im a maximalist i really enjoyed and agreed w this minimalist vid! ❤
they exist to annoy us?? the only explanation! ohhh, i think maximalism is tricky to do well but when it is YES ✨💞
12:07 no shame in being boring sis. It’s Okay to love the same 3 things.
lol don’t i know it x
with your preference being away from busier covers, i don’t think you would love us edition covers 😅
i hear you lol but a few of them are really good!!
