  • Three CAT Mining Dump trucks, in two parts, chassis and tipping trays (tubs) were being carted from FMG Christmas Creek iron ore mine site, 100 kms north of Newman. To mineral sands quarry in the Cataby area, via Muchea.
Transport companies involved, were Piacentini & Son P/L with 4 trucks and Doolan's Heavy Haulage with 2 trucks.
They were trapped and held up at Mt. Magnet for days, due to flooding on the Great Northern Highway in the Mt. Magnet - Paynes Find section. So on Wednesday 6 April, as the highway was drying out. A Main Roads Department authorizatiion was made, and special permits were issued, for two convoys of oversize loads to depart Mt. Magnet, to head south towards Perth.
There was still temporary restrictions in place for any oversize, over 4.2 mtrs width, not being allowed to head north out of Wubin. Lifted now I think?
So it was a oversize convoy, 3 at 8 mtrs wide out of Mt. Magnet at sunrise, heading south. With about 15 mins later 6 at 8.5 mtrs wide. Several truck drivers heading their way, did ask the lead pilot to repeat the call!🤔🙂
The video starts, at Dallwallinu, with the second oversize convoy, where S R Coyne Contracting, Shayne and Woody with their two Mack Titan block trucks, are to hook up to 2 of the CAT 793B chassis dumpers. To be Helper Pull trucks.
Check out the set up of both prime movers, as I arrive from Wubin, blocking the entrys into the truck layover bay in town, so the bay can be empty for the incoming 6 truck convoy arriving from Mt. Magnet via Wubin.
Northbound road trains are already stopped, by the lead pilot.
After staging and liaising, and follow up on logistics etc. The convoy headed out for Muchea Road Train Hookup yard, and parking up there overnight. Wednesday 6 April. Then onto Brand Highway, for Cataby on Thursday morning.
Take note; This video is Part One of Two video clips of this movement that I filmed from Dallwallinu to the overtaking lanes, north of Chittering Roadhouse.
And yeah, I did video coverage also of that 3 x 8 mtrs wide convoy. Will post up a later time. Also of interest, this oversize convoy, would normally be 1 x 2 @ 8.5 mtrs. 1 x 2 @ 8.5 mtrs. 1 x 2 @ 8.5 mtrs = 3 Traffic Wardens and 9 heavy vehicle pilots! All down to 1 Traffic Warden, and 3 pilots, on this job.
Wednesday 6 April 2022, all day from Mt. Magnet to Muchea hookup yard.
    The order of trucks leaving Dalwallinu;
    1. S R Coyne Contracting Mack Titan Pull block truck, helping Piacentini & Son P/L. Kenworth C509.
    2. S R Coyne Contracting Mack Titan Pull block truck, helping Piacentini & Son P/L. Kenworth T909.
    3. Doolan's Heavy Haulage Kenworth K200, solo with the dumped chassis.
    4. Doolan's Heavy Haulage unpainted (original white) Volvo FH16, tub.
    5. Piacentini & Son P/L. Kenworth T904/08, tub.
    6. Piacentini & Son P/L. Mack Titan, tub.
Just down the highway past Pithara. They swapped order, and the Doolan's Kenworth K200, became Leader of the Pack.

The action is unbelievable here. We see road trains, a normal train and a serious oversize convoy. I like the Piacentini & Son Kennies, their rigs are very tidy. Of course the other trucks are awesome too. Great job as always Terry.

Yep, thanks Zsolti. I went with the train passing by. That came from the CBH grain storage site at McCleive, which is just a few kms north of town. And is heading to Kwinana Grain Terminal for export. Piancentini & Son are based down south at Picton near Bunbury. And most of their work is done in that area. First time I've seen 4 of their fleet same time, on the one haul. Yep plenty of trucks about at Dallwallinu.

Thanks for sharing your piece of working life. Yeah looks like you've covered big areas of Australia, with your pilot vehicle job. The real heavy oversize loads, are good to see, a exciting challenge for the Traffic Escort Wardens and pilots! Thanks for watching.
