    • @1cakesz
      @1cakesz 6 лет назад +17

      Daphnie Starr I had the same problem and still do sometimes. Honestly I find it’s all about practice, practice, practice. I also try to rock back a bit on my skate when I know I’m on my toe, but that doesn’t always help either lol. Keep practicing and I’m sure it will happen less!

      Hey Daphnie Starr, I've was a skater when I was younger up till about 20 and just started back up-stopped for 30 years. Have been working on my scratch spin for about 6 months and in my head I know how to do it and how it feels, but I'm having an issue with the step into it.. There are days I can get the rocker and spin great, then slowly into the session, it unravels and I let it rest. Are your boots laced too tight and are you getting a good knee bend? My coach says I'm bringing my back leg around too soon and not squeezing my butt muscles. Sometimes I find it helps to go faster and enter with a 3 turn. Good luck tho..I know it's frustrating!

    • @ginsengstrips

      Did you get your skates professionally fitted? You may be wearing incorrect size skates

    • @butterflygold6853
      @butterflygold6853 6 лет назад +3

      Daphnie Starr if you hear your toe pick start to scratch against the ice, it means your not on the ball of your foot. I had the same problem. And good luck on your skating journey ! 🙂

    It looks easy for you to enter the spin, but difficult for me or maybe more others, I cannot go into the spring and fall out of balance, always, the force momentum throws my leg out, can’t hold it.

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 лет назад +10

      Perhaps try it a bit slower and with less speed. You might also be putting too much power in it that you can't control. Try to work on your position and stability. Things are difficult at the beginning, doesn't mean they will be always ❤️❤️❤️

      Try to stay on the “sweet spot” which is not the back of the blade or the toe pick, it is right before the toe pick, and it helps your spins stay balanced and you won’t fall, i hope that helps

    • @rubyelizabeth7714

      dimplezhu for me, what helps me get over fear is doing it off ice, once i’ve perfected my skills off ice i feel confident enough to try them on ice. to gain strength for gliding backwards, i do leg workouts and sit spins off ice. hope this helps!!

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  6 лет назад +12

      Try off ice jumps. Really try to concentrate on what you're doing, so you're not concentrating on the fear. Also perhaps buy some padding for your butt, or whoever you're afraid to fall on. There is no shame in padding, especially if it's going to help you! For leg strength, do more leg workouts off the ice, also try some yoga balances off the ice. ❤️

      @@Sofabar sooo so true. Holding your balance in a simple camel has its trick and it looks so elegant and so does the split spiral.
      Anyway a curious question, do your students are more influenced in the old school like Sasha Cohen, Michelle Kwan and Irina Slutskaya or they are more influenced in Yulia Lipnitskaya and Alina Zagitova.
      Do they tell you more often I want to grow to be like Sasha Cohen ir they tell you more about Zagitova, Lipntiskaya and now Alexandra trusova ?

    • @thatpianistmoth
      @thatpianistmoth 6 лет назад +5

      Ariel Lee I had the some problem. Practice is key, but you could be having issues with either your arms (they should really get you into the air), your knees (the more bent when jumping, the more you can spring to the floor, and the more momentum you create with the other leg with the "pendulum" motion, the better as well) or jumping directly from the blade (the jump should spring in the last moment from the toepick, I had this issue for the longest time and it really helped my waltz jumps to go into my outside edge and then toepick)

Ok hope this helps fren

      SofaBar Thanks for your reply. Fish spin is the back scratch but you put your left foot stretch behind and look up. Someone told me it’s inward back scratch.😂😂😂I asked some coaches they also said this posture has no official name.....it looks like a mermaid spin to me. 😂😂😂BTW, I started to follow your warm-ups, it feels great. I also enjoy watching your Moonlight piece over and over again. just adore it. You are such a role model.

      You always feel dizzy after spinning in the beginning, but your body gradually gets used to it!

    Man... I can't even skate backwards correctly.. there's no indoors skate rink where I live so I can only skate in the winter IF the outdoor rinks have been maintained and IF it doesn't snow to much(which unfortunantly it often does). So I don't get enough practice at all.
    Is there any exercises I can do without skates(or with roller skates) that can help me improve at all? I'm struggling with everything exept skating forward.

      Pretty much everything in ice skating can be adapted on roller skates. look up roller figure skating. Personally I think it looks kind of silly when they try to make it all artistic and graceful (sorry, just can't get that aesthetic with big bulky roller skates) BUT, if you don't physically have access to ice, then it's a practical alternative.

    would anyone mind telling me how long it took them to learn to spin? It feels like I've been trying for an eternity and I'm trying so hard not to get discouraged about it ToT

      Unfortunately I can't tell you when you'll learn it, but just know that millions of people have learned to spin, that means you definitely will too! It just might take some more time, we are all different, but it's no way impossible!! You'll get there and keep me updated 💕💕💕

      @@Sofabar your voice will be ruined when you reach 30 if you keep doing it, your lighter voice suits you a lot better and doesnt distract from your skill. Same for extending words for too long.

      Tigerlily Hmm I didn’t read any science based studies about this ruining your voice in the long run 🤔 This is just how I talk when I’m relaxed. I have tried to improve it for my videos and hopefully that shows in my recent videos.

    • @DarkKittycat
      @DarkKittycat 4 года назад

      @@Sofabar I'm not sure if scientific or if there are studies running about the topic, but i read commercial articles about it, its called frying your voice and happened to Paris Hilton and Britney since they altered their voice a lot. However, it would make you more enjoyable to listen to if it was less there, its a bit too much.

    • @Sofabar
      @Sofabar  4 года назад

      Tigerlily I would say their smoking habits had more to do with their voice going bad, but you and I don’t know them personally, so we cannot judge anything.
      Once again, I’m not faking anything. My voice is fried naturally, this is just how I talk. And like I said I try to control this for my videos after it’s been pointed out more than once to me. Hopefully my voice fry is less noticeable in my new videos.
      I am trying to be polite here, but I feel your comments aren’t the friendliest in terms of trying to get your point across, especially your first comment, for the future you should work on being a bit more sensitive. I take your criticism very seriously and will work on it ☺️ Thank you and have a nice day!
