An old duffer on my paper route (around 1982) told me about the fun and carnage at the board track in Altoona PA. RIP Mr Miller - I hope you are watching these guys from above with a childish grin on your face.
Bringing back the old school is always cool.
This is real racing. People racing, available to anyone from all walks of life. Awesome video.
Yeah but those bikes are gems that probably cost more than a brand new racing bike with tires for the whole season
I just built my first motorized bike and I am obsessed with board track racing this should definitely make a comeback
Great no nonsense film... been following Billy for some years from Denmark via RUclips. A huge inspiration.
What a blast. Proud to represent Team American Iron Magazine on my 1915 Harley racer. Thanks Billy!
Buzz Kanter Always admired Billy, hope to meet him one day. I love his enthusiasm for bikes and now the history of them too. Glad to see he made a successful run with this board track experiment turned realization.
It was Awesome to see Rick working on a bike . He and Vinny were the real stars on OCC
Billy is a true King, the passion to bring back to life so many bikes from history not only to see, but to race!
Man, I'd give my sister away to race one for a day 👍🤣
Old bikes old boats old cars old airplanes. So much fun. Great film!
Bringing the love and joy of motorcycles back to where it started. Just amazing
Rick & Billy glad to see traditional biking re-lifed. Long live the board-track heroes. American Chopper and Biker Build Off fan , even have Billy's Build a Chopper book still... and loved watching Rick work with his hands in metal fab on OCC. Thanks, you are my long time heroes.
Scott Jones, Australia, long time rider, antique bike owner and mad fan of you guys. Owner of 1939 WWII 3HW Triumph and mad fanatic of the Harley Peashooters.
One that rides knows that w/no, brakes, no transmission, no suspension, nothing but a frame and and engine...there's nothing left but, knowledge of your ride, talent, a great measure of good fortune, and more than a ton of BRASS BALLS...women certainly included.
Brutal honesty.
Ya' gotta love it.
I’ve gone down hill at 50 miles an hour on a bicycle before and at that speed I thought I was going o die! That’s essentially what they were doing but with a 40 horsepower engine with no brakes and at 100 miles per hour. And don’t forget, they wore a leather hat for “protection”...
Thanks for being you Billy Lane. So glad to see you're doing well and healthy.
You've been very inspirational to many people.
Keeping history alive! Good for this man! Thank you for doing this!
Naming your bike 'Death Trap'. Now there's honesty.
Nice to see a real race, not a few leisurely demonstration laps. Bikes of a hundred years old getting a serious spanking again.
Doing the 'ton' on what is still essentially a re-worked pedal cycle has got to be a hell of an experience.
Love seeing these old motors doing what they were built to do instead of sitting in a museum collecting dust. Go Billy Go and the rest of you guys and gals.
I think this whole thing is fantastic, bringing back real V-twin board-racers!!! Awesome! :-)
THIS is some of the most exciting racing many people will ever see, it's the spirit of the game. being flag on turn 3 and pit sweep I got to see up close and personal what Billy's vision has become. Everyone involved it committed, competative and true motorcycle entusiests, my people.

I love what Billy Lane is doing. The bikes themselves and or replicas brings back so much from the past. Love it all. Good luck and thank you.
That was fucking beautiful. The production, soundtrack and of course those gorgeous bikes with a story of one mans dream. Love it.
Phillip-thanks so much for the kind words! glad you enjoyed it
Philip Perry I love Your comment bro Thxx
@@jeffreymaher2314 I'm looking for a engine for a shaw board track racer

Good to see Billy still into bikes. I love seeing people who restore or rebuild these old machines.
This gives me goosebumps all over in a beautiful way! The ones that were in that epic beginning of the motorcycle racing heyday were cut from a different clothe. Fearlessly feeling alive as it gets. Nothing beats that adrenaline of no brakes no nothing 100 mile an hour speed. Billy plus all the guys and gals bringing this lost art back into reality is pure passion at the highest levels. It's amazing to see what Billy has and is creating for these old heart engines that need a new body of life, and he's doing a righteous effort to say the least! These machines being actually used and not only art is the way it should be, and by these new blood with old souls bringing it back it just adds to the beauty of motorcycling as a whole! It's as PURE as it gets!
Rick Petko, Billy Lane and Paul Cox all in one video and one hobby. Incredible. If only Indian Larry was around to see it. I'm sure he'd love Sons of Speed.
this is so hot..I flat-tracked dirt oval (asbestos wrapped Wellington) at Michigan fairgrounds in the late 1960s..we had so much fun they banned it! rock on, Billy!
This is the coolest motorcycle event I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been a fan of Motorcycle racing since the mid 80’s!
"they were old, they were loud, they leak & I liked it..."
Pretty much sums it up for me too👍
Wow, Haven't seen Billy Lane since the Discovery Channel Biker Build Off Competition years ago.... Back when Indian Larry was still around (R.I.P.) and other well known Chopper Builders. Glad to see him back in the World and Working/Building on Bikes that were The Earliest Days of Organized MC Racing. Board Track Racers were Daredevils of the Day and Sadly Many lost their Lives or had Career Ending Injuries. Many Famous Names of the Day, Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P. Jim Davis (1896 - 2000

Billy Lane.....great to see him doing well and so many other familiar faces.
kudos to all...keeping the past alive................. great video
Good to see Rick Petko in there. I always hated the shit he had to take on American Choppers.
Bruce Kirk d'you see the dude from moonshiners? josh, he's pretty good at fabricating copper himself ,into great copper stills.
@@euro1859 Insanely fake show...
Paul Jr. would shit in his pants if he got anywhere near one of those things.
@@elbob248 Maybe but Paul Senior would actually kill himself trying to ride such a bike.
If this is the same Rick Petko I think it is, we used to work at the same Oldsmobile Dealership in NJ, (1987/88) glad to see he’s doing well.
If this was filmed in black and white no one would know the difference great doc great bikes great people loved it
I prefer that era to anything new. I love those old machines from pre WW1. That was a golden age of steam, petrol and diesel.
In the late 80's I came across a 1928 101 Indian, complete minus an engine...I found an engine out in the sticks, being used to pump air into a compressor tank.
These guys are the talent that America is known for ! Keep it up , you definitely have the old boys looking down on you and inspiring you to create these bikes from nothing but a engine on a bench !
Wow, thank god we've got youtube and...ofcourse guys like there. Far from the rest of the world, I even didn't know there were such an inthusiasism on these relics. Building them, racing them, it is simply adorable and it is a branch of fine arts for me. Thanks for sharing this great dedication.
This is the absolute coolest form of motorcycle racing ever created.
They should require contestants to wear the same equipment as the original board track racers wore.
History reborn.
It's all about the pose, and thinking that growing a beard gives you credibility. Blows big time
From an old motorcycle racer, this is so COOL!! I would love to try it.
No clutch, no brakes, one throttle, one kill switch and MASSIVE BALLS!
Myself I love old, original harley's. I also love motorised bicycles so for me a board track bike is the ultimate !!! I want one!!!
What a fucking amazing passion to share with friends, families, and fans. Wonderful!
Hats off to Billy Lane...a true motorcycle pioneer
“They were old they were loud, they leaked and I liked it” hell yeah
To bring back the type of motorcycles, along with the type of racing that hasn't been done in100 years, with the human efforts, risks , and a smiling élan is a commendable thing.
The production and execution of this video was superb. Highly enjoyable. Great work.
You’re a good man billy and what you’ve done has redirected the motorcycle world!its amazing what one human can do.
This just makes my heart sing to see young people bringing these 100 year old racers back to life and riding them like they were intended to be ridden! Be careful guys and gals.. they can and will still throw you down when you least expect it, but at least you have MUCH better protection now than they did back when the board track was king!😁😅👍👍🏍🏍
love it! I hope the interest and support grows for this. There really is nothing like bringing this sport back. the sights and sounds, the smell of leaking gas, the people and friends you'll meet and make.. priceless!
2014 was my first year at Sons Of Speed but it won't be my last. Fantastic.
Good to see Billy back and doing something so pure
This is way cooler than what's going on today taking it back to how it used to be done, so bikers can feel or see where it all started from.
Paul left too soon I’m ‘59 born so 59. Dang I’m gonna slide to 2019. Never thought I would make it this far. My crashes were tough tumbles. Great production. I been on Daytona tri oval and infield. Brainerd MN, Elkhart lake, many more. Bless y’all.
So cool. It’s so badass seeing Billy and Rick not under the boot of the discovery channel, They are 100% there for the fun of it.
As a kid I always started at photos of boardtrackers and dreamed I would own one...someday is coming soon.
I want some mfr. to mass produce air-cooled 4-valve exposed pushrod/valve gear and spring pushrod twins. I've already got an old bicycle in the garage.
Get yourself a moped engine and tune that bad boy up, larger cilinder, different exaust, better carb and powerfilter and you will turn that 45 kmh into 80
A nice tribute to a sport that was lost to the ages. And daughters too!
Thanks to give me an insight to something I did not know before! This was highly interesting and give me a lot of joy! Thank you very much for a tv like documentation! #1 motorbike story I saw so far!
The real mystic and genius of humanity. He ranks right up there with the best of bike builder's, choppers and and all. A great high spirited soul. Keep building brother. US war veteran desert Storm ~
Great editing! Thank you...video went well with a cup of coffee and a smoke.
We have a similar movement in Switzerland and use old Sachs for that..
Surely you can refer to the elderly with greater enthusiasm. ;)
@Martin Kaufmann Video link?
Nice.
You show us a video?
Please
Martin Kaufmann Do you have any videos of your bikes or any of your groups races? If you guys created a channel I have no doubts that it’d generate more interest and get plenty of viewers
Good on BL for showing us all something we didn't know we didn't know...
We started our own track out back with just mini bikes sliding and wreckin and having the best cheap fun ever .I can see us looking to build some bikes!
Always love your work Billy...your saving history..carry on sir..🤙
Mr Lane and Co will go down in history for this.
This was awesome.Good to see Billy still doing his thing and Rick was always going to land on his, feet both just really good dudes.Haven’t watched TV in 2-1/2 years So was good to see.✌️
Board tracking is so underrated as a motorsport need more of this

amazing. i’ll be keeping my eyes out for a show. i’ll travel to see this.
Very cool I've always loved seeing the board track bikes run.
Fantastic!!!!What a great thing to see kept alive !!
Nice! Thanks to share this with Us 🇮🇹🏍👍
This video makes me smile. Love the board track racers.

THE BEST project Billy has ever laid hands on, please more footage, ongoing series, bike builds, rider profiles, please more more.
I love love love love LOVE these bikes! The sound alone is great! Thanks for this video man! Hope you all enjoy!
Really great film guys - captured the spirit of the classic and the excitement that this style of racing brings! Was great to see Rick doing what he really wants to do to! Really well shot and edited - cant believe you haven't had more subs and views! Will spread the word in UK! Nice.
Thanks for the kind words Paul!
Black Irish Films what else are you working on guys? Do you have a site?
blackirishfilms.com
Please don't do that
Thank you......for your inspiration cause lets face it (thats why we all watched this from begining to end on you tube....thank you)
Great to see this revival!!
I'm happy to see you back doing your thing,..... and really really happy seeing those DIMPLES xo
I love this type of racing, am wondering though if they could establish a class for newly made bikes running on lawnmower engines in beach cruiser frames, single speeds w/no brakes as like a junior league. It wouldnt be expensive to build & would get more people into it. Not that I'd get 2 race any of these legendary guys who I look up to,but being able to compete in league that raced bikes built to classic/antique specs has alot of appeal & I know I'm not the only guy who'd want to participate. Still makes me wish for my grandpa's WLA, as I love flatheads .
@ things needed here, give it a throttle begone with the kill switch and some rudimentary brakes would be cool as well even if it is something from a modern day mountain bike just something.
These guys don't want normans in there thing man. There happy with the prays and fan fair.
Good idea, what size motor? A 6.5 hp Predator would probably go 65 mph or so. Yeah put a twist throttle and brakes on the thing. The board trackers back in the day died a lot. That would take the fun out of it.
Get a website going and see what happens.
I built one of these using a walmart 700c style bike and one of those 2 stroke kits. Its built for top speed and will do just about 40 mph. Its tons of fun and only cost less than $300 total to build. Gets alot of attention also.
The history of board track racing is incredible, millions of board-feet of pine turned into the biggest spectacles the world had seen.
Side note, they called going over 100mph, “doing the ton”
As in....
Just for kicks I ride all through the night
My bird hangs on in fright when I do the ton for kicks.....
Those bikes are beautiful. Only makes me want a classic Harley Davidson that much more.
The only thing Billy needs now is an actual board track!
To the lady from Aberdeen, I'm from Jamestown. Enjoy your passion.
From Pierre and saw the old bike Stock rally stage race that went through Pierre in that Memorial Race well some of the bikes, a guy on a old Indian motorcycle.
I'd love to do this... There's an old 1910s Harley for sale in my little town in South Central Pennsylvania and I love the look of it¡! It's basically a bike and I grew up on bikes so I'm way into this... 😊
Awesome, Simple Awesome nothing more can be said
I've been planning on going to this for years and acquiring a 20's bike soon. my grandmother was born in 1926 and I'm pretty sure plenty of people were still doing board track racing then so I think that goes confused when he said that hasn't happened in anyone's lifetime that's still alive.
Cool man. What kinda bike you looking for? Or thinking about getting.
Freaking beautiful! This video made me so happy!
Beautiful bikes
i wish i could drive one of these. it looks so raw.
Awesome video!!! Looking forward to the upcoming race!
I was born in South America, on my grandfathers farm there were not one but two early Harley motorcycles and they were in good shape , next to those was a 1932 Bugatti Coupe last I saw them was 48 years ago .. I wonder where they wound up ??
Atahulpa worth a lot of money now.
Real boardtrack racing was done on on wooden tracks; the oil would soften the wood and make it really rough/slick, and when you crashed you got massive amount of splinters.
Billy Lane is a legend!
I am so F'ing down for this! Just awesome dude's
THXS for the inspiration, to keep building up my twin JAP pioneer racer!
Hope the racing takes off, Wanted to build a boardtrack racer, for some time, Now I have seen the video and racing, I am going full steam ahead to build myself one
Looks a lot of fun
Hey did you start building yet? I'm curious
,,✨... THEY LOOK LIKE GOOD FUN.. SERIOUS FUN THOUGH... FIRST TIME I'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS KIND OF RACING..& THE GIRLS GET TO RACE THESE DAYS.. SPLENDID FILM.✨,,, ☮️🇺🇦☮️🇺🇦☮️🇺🇦☮️
Love to see good simple racing fun hope it keeps going😁👍
Okay, that is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. Though, I have to say, that track seems way safer than any of the old wood tracks ever were back in the day. So cool!
