I was blessed to have been in Athens during the early years of REM and met them all. You would never know where they would show up and with whom. It was a magical time. One of my favorite places on the planet though I haven't been there in many years.

Nirvana's epic unplugged version, Lulu's popularisation of it, obviously Bowie's original and now this truly mesmerising addition to the list... has a song been covered as many times with such quality and true distinctive artistry? It's a great song in its own right but the quality of cover versions just elevates the stature of this piece of music another level of appreciation. I could listen to them all, back to back, and each one be my favourite for 3 minutes. This version is pretty special though... an REM and Nirvana collaboration would have made the 90s 4 dimensional. Michael Stipe is an artist of the highest calibre - beautifully demonstrated in this cover.

Don't know if Jon Stewert and David Letterman still have there long, large beards but would be great to see them and Michael Stipe do a special together with a little politics, comedy and music.
