A bit late, but if you place your levels in the mob farm offset from each other then the mobs only fall one or two floors and survive.
And you can connect all your furnaces to one chest by making them in a pyramid shape. One chest two hoppers out, each to another chest then just continue down.
That means you just have one chest to stock to get all furnaces going.
If you build the same system with the fuel then you can dump a stack of lava buckets in one chest and all you want to smelt in the other and it just does so automatically.
