    He was nice enough to help people to install an antenna i am going to follow his advice. I just got rid of Direct TV myself and still have the Dish and whatever comes with it. Thanks for the advice.

      My fiance has a couple of satellite dishes on her house and I was wondering if I would be able to use them as a over-the-air antenna so thanks for the tips I love watching RUclips she doesn't want to pay the extra price for spectrum and the people that lived here before had DirecTV so they got satellite dishes on their house so now I know I can use them as over-the-air programming does it make the signal stronger as it bounces off the dish that's my question

    Drill a hole through straight through both pipes and put in a bolt.

      @Dustin...I was wondering about this as well. How solid is your 5 foot extension? Is there a lot of sway? I was thinking it probably should be secured to the dish pipe as well. Just took the old dish of the house I bought today, and plan on doing what you did.

    I would have tidied up the loose coax to the mast with zips ties. Maybe that was done later after video. We recently went from 4 receivers on DirecTV to two. This means I have two cable runs from satellite dish to two locations that can be used for OTA antenna. Both of those locations that had a box have an indoor antenna which for now provides enough channels with good signal. Something to keep in mind.

    Great video! Hey, my Dish Satellite has two coax cables that connect to a dual connector that’s attached to the house wall. How do I determine which connection to attach the single coax cable that runs from the OAT antenna? Or do I need to rip out the existing dual connector and replace with a single one? Appreciate your advice.

    You did not mention what you did about that.

    So basically, you are not using the Direct TV antenna - except for the antenna mount - but the coax homerun from inside house to the roof? And then the runs inside the house back to basement splitter? It doesn't look as though there's anway to use the Direct/Dish antenna only the cabling that was left in place?

  • @techfrikpr

    You might benefit from installing a preamplifier to your exterior antenna and replace the passive splitter with an amplified splitter.

    I’ve been trying for months to find out where the amp is for the direct Tv satellite.....I don’t have a basement so I presume that it is in my attic since it’s on the roof of my house....I have no idea lol....it looks so easy yet so difficult haha

    • @kenk8215
      @kenk8215 5 лет назад

      Sometimes those satellite installs use weird splitter or amplifier configurations.
      Follow the cable from the satellite along the house and through the attic to make sure you have a straight shot.

    Its called an LNB where the coax attaches that particular one is a swim LNB idk if people still do but back in the day you could sell them on eBay for some good money, surprised it worked with the Directv splitter, Comcast signal would not pass through it on my house, also if you would just leave the Directv dish mounted and just remove the LNB and install your HD Anttena in its place aiming at the dish it would amplify its signal 10fold I used to get 3 channels on a good day now I get 40+

    Funny people who want to make money will say that it want work ..but if it's the same wire from satellites that are used it has to be grounded because the wiring is grounded to be able to use on a satellite and if he didn't change anything except for just hooked up the same cable that was on the satellite to an antenna

    • @thestranger79x

      Rozell Burroughs hey not every tech grounds their connection there’s a lot of lazy techs out there however if it’s not grounded it will still work you just risk a lightning coming close to the anttena and bye bye TVs but easy for anyone to ground it themselves just buy some 12 or 10 wire at Home Depot and a ground block however there’s always a but most satellite techs do not properly ground specially if cause of site of view, trees or home owner didn’t want dish on roof he has to install the dish in other side of house far away from power meter you can bet your ass that he fake ground he just ran a ground wire into the ground and stuck a short rod in the ground maybe even put a little bit of cement so if QC guy tries to pull on the rod it won’t come of the ground and everyone thinks it’s grounded but it ain’t or he ran a ground wire all the way around the house which basically it’s too long to help or he just ground to a water pipe that looks like copper outside but once it enters the house it’s all pvc or he just won’t bother at all to ground cause he has to pay for his own ground wire and it will cost too much to properly ground or he stills your internet provider ground and leaves all your computers unprotected but the best of it all if a lightning hits your house the ground it gonna do shit it will fail 90% of the time even if properly installed unless you have a device that can’t think of the name now installed between power meter and breaker box I think it’s how it goes could be wrong it’s been a while so if power surge comes it stops dead right there and won’t enter your house I used to work for the cable company and after every lightning storm 85% of the jobs it’s replacing burned out cable boxes and modems and customers buying new TVs and computers bunches and the tons of people that got no Insurance and no money crying literally crying cause they fucked and unless you can proof it’s the cable company fault they ain’t gonna help you

    Why doesn’t the dish pick up over the air signal and just give us basic channels after we get rid of our service?

    • @latengocomoburro
      @latengocomoburro 6 лет назад

      How can you think that a *SATELITE* dish, that is pointed at a satellite is going to be able to pick up signals from an antenna on earth!!!. Satellite dishes are made specifically to receive weak signals and concentrate them in a specific point, the LNB that cylindrical thing in from of the antenna is where all the signals are concentrated, However that LNB is made specifically for satellite signals, you need to replace it with something else, e.g. a small terrestrial antenna like the one being shown in this video.

    I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Northerners don't run cable in a metal gutter unless it is to thaw the ice and I didn't detect any tobacco in your cheek. And that uncoated metal pipe and antenna you just installed to replace the Direct TV...you ever hear of ground wire son or you just like replacing tv's and chasing lightning balls around your house till they find the plumbing? And the basement portion of the video just creeps my hiny out. I'm afraid of dark places.
