I may already have said this, but reviewing artist boards is a very difficult job. And John is absolutely the best EVER! (Whoops - I did say it before! Sorry to repeat myself everyone).

Imo John Bollinger is just the best rig reviewer of all time. He’s such a decent guy, and never gets in the way - just encourages the interviewee to talk.

@@skypekai Mr. Bollinger knows a LOT about pedals, no question. He's a serious player. Obviously he 'plays dumb' on occasion to elicit some information from the player about the rig, rather than making any assumptions. It's a solid interview technique, and makes for a much better video.

I keep coming back to this video after watching hundreds of other rigs. Doyle is absolutely incredible!
The reversed strings playing is cool. He may have never learned that way if RUclips had existed when he was learning.

Yeah the Super Furry Animals guy learned to play upside-down guitar as well (left to right handed)
Lefty guitars are, while still not as common, far more prevalent today than in his youth. Even if YT didn't exist, he likely wouldn't have chosen to go that route in modern time. His guitar teacher told him to choose how he wanted to learn before they got started since it would lock him into that style for life. Great choice, imo.

Doyle grew up around SRV... they were good friends.
That Univibe was Legit. Many of them miss-the-mark, by not having that: thick-watery Throb. They either sound like a phase shifter or a tremolo ( both great, but not the same: hypnotic swirl ).

It's harder to deliver those lines than you think. Nobody does it better than John does. His timing and sicerety in his delivery is his perfection. He's so good at it that he just makes this seem easier than it is.

@@alistairmartin13 He gives the star room to speak and let's them have their say. He never gets in the way and he makes them want to offer up more explanation. I hate interviewers that talk over the guest and always having to tell them about their own experiences and seemingly trying to one up.

I played all of the Vem pedals back in the day and should have bought two of each when they were only $400 each. I got the Shanks because, in the room, it was miles beyond any other OD at the shop - and there were plenty. I had the same experience with the Klon back in 99, but couldn't fathom $400 for that one at the time. Pedals just weren't worth that to me then. Now look at the prices...

The cool thing about an upside down guitar is - a righty can just flip it over and also play normally.
Does that make it upside down? Or just a lefty? His is left handed strung upside down, so right handed would still be upside down. LOL

Plus he was childhood friends with SRV and has recorded with Buddy Guy, Edgar Winter, BB King, Tbone Burnett, Elton John, Derek Trucks, Gregg Allman, QuestLove. But I am guessing you've never heard of these people.
“The Jan Ray does what a Tube Screamer is trying to do but does it better” is kinda like saying “a Gibson does what a Fender is trying to do but does it better”.
My strat fell off the stand this morning at church, if it were a Gibson it would have broken for sure lol

Always impressed with the lack of knowledge of PRo musicians own gear and the ability to do it themselves. I often hear, "I don't know the pick up's in this guitar", or "I don't know how this works", or "I am not sure what speaker is in there". "I don't know signal order, or how to remove noise from the chain". Weird stuff. Just pay someone to do the cool stuff i guess. Not specifically ragging on this musician, but it is crazy common.
That’s kind of a good thing it shows that some of these guys tend to just focus on the playing and leave it up to their techs with all the gear candy
Basically they know what sounds good and don't care about brands or specs.
god the interviewer is boring.. im sure hes a cool dude but to me he never knows what to say.
Dose he really need all those pedals ? Trower has 4 .... I use one .
Each to their own aye. Hendrix used pedals and yet someone like Chris cain doesn’t. Do whatever works for you.
He actually needs 4x this many pedals, but had to chop off 75% for touring practically.
Doyle should invest in a treadmill by the looks of it.
