Tha Taliban didn’t attack the towers, al-qaeda did. The hijackers also weren't from Afghanistan, but Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan. To be real, there was also a lot of reasons to believe the American government was involved in the tragedy. The Taliban is far from a good organization, but I still have no clue how they are connected to 9/11. There was no reason to attack Afghanistan in the first place.

There are extremely loose ties between the two. The Taliban have no plans to extend their power beyond the borders of their country, while al-qeuda are Wahhabist and are aggressive expansionists. Both may have had some members who came from the Mujhadeem, but their ideologies are quite different. The US and the CIA have worked with al-qeuda far more than the Taliban. You act as though al-qeuda were a subordinate off-shot of the Taliban, like everyone with a turban are allied.
